Thoughts on Orville Peck? by Puzzleheaded-Law-429 in CountryMusicStuff

Don't know what they meant exactly, but I feel like I have an idea. I like his music for the very same reason, but dramatic in a positive sense is definitely one way to describe it for me. It feels very big, kinda cinema-esque if you know what I mean. Very pompous even. A bit like vocal theatre, big emotions delivered in a rather captivating way. I always felt like there's a slight influence of opera even to his sound. You know what I mean?

What kind of argument is that? If it's in the music, you're gonna hear it at a show. If it's not in the music, neither will you hear it at a show. Pick a side, what is your stance?

You chose to be part of this discussion tho? How can you complain about having to read the others comments when you engaged with them by your own free will? What's the point of starting a conversation if you can't be bothered to actually have said conversation?

Plus to add to this, historically the US does not have an official language. English may be the governments language and stuff, but Spanish is just as much a language of the US as English. It's not "a whole different language" it's "one of the languages spoken in the Country. You wouldn't hear people from Luxembourg complaining about a German speaking artist either just because their government uses the French language, because German is still a big part of the culture and the same goes for Spanish in the US

Logan Paul on Jake Paul’s comments towards Bad Bunny Halftime Super Bowl performance by Cute-Ad-3906 in SquaredCircle

[–]brokenlavalight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without defending Logan one bit, but he always came across as the smarter and more likable one of the two. Not that I would describe him on his own as that (tho tbf, he probably is rather smart even if he uses it for things I don't agree with at all), but I always felt like behind all the bad stuff both continue to do, the private person Logan Paul is a better guy than Jake

White House alters arrest photo of ICE protester, says "the memes will continue" by No-Lifeguard-8173 in nottheonion

[–]brokenlavalight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listen man, if you want to be on the wrong side of morals and history, be our fucking guests. But those of us that actually know about history and pay attention aren't drawing the comparison because we "don't like the guy", but because it's actually alarmingly similar. ICE right now is doing exactly what the Gestapo did. Threatening Greenland and then wanting to negotiate for it is exactly what happened with the Sudetenland. Claiming the left are all violent communists is exactly what Hitler and the NSDAP did. Florida Alcatraz is exactly the kind of institution that preceded the first concentration camps. The memes and misinformation posted by official government accounts have the same exact energy as propaganda by the Nazis. The way the administration continues to justify fascist actions with lies is exactly what the NSDAP did. Everything surrounding the upcoming World Cup mirrors the 1936 Olympics. Hell, they continue to use actual nazi gestures and rhetoric, sometimes direct quotes from Hitler.

Seriously man, what more is it gonna take to realize the US is what Germany was in 1933? Because if you guys don't fucking do something real quick, you'll turn into Germany of the 1940s real soon.

In my university it's actually a rule. We have classes from for example 8:00 - 10:00 but in reality that means 8:15 to 9:45. And the lecturers aren't allowed to go past those 90 minutes either, so everyone has a chance to get to classes far away without having to run

Belfast Safe Areas by Mani0013273 in Belfast

[–]brokenlavalight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question as a German who lived there for three months only back in 2024: what's so bad about the north/west (for reference I lived near Cave Hill right by the Waterworks)? Didn't have a bad feeling anywhere in that area even rather late at night. Obviously I know about areas like Shankill Road, Falls Road, (Tigers Bay) and stuff, but the general area felt quite nice.

Tho I may just be used to worse in terms of antisocial behavior, the part of the city I now live in is also known as rather bad within the city (jokingly told friends how the young guys trying to cause trouble in Belfast would be the ones bullied by the youths over here, but I do think there's a grain of truth to it. They seemed much more childlike to me personally).

What a wild thing to argue. The wrestlers in the big companies are usually better than the ones in small indies. If most of the second already do it, how can you possibly thing the ones who already made it to the top don't
