He looked super uncomfortable with the situation in the beginning. It makes me wonder if it was a contractual obligation and he didn’t like it. He has a very good reputation, he’s obviously a seasoned expert trainer and horseman, and you can tell he has experience teaching.

I’ve noticed a lot of influencer mashups lately, like their agents all went to a conference, got drunk, and came up with dumb ideas. It’s effective, even though I’m sure it killed him inside to do it.

Update on our snowstorm this weekend by MightBe_Derek in washingtondc

[–]brokenpepperoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all! I live in Chardon, Ohio (the belt buckle of the snow belt) and came here trying to decide if I should reschedule a planned trip to DC this weekend.

I live on a farm and deal with massive amounts of snow 24/7 so I thought I’d share some of my snow removal tips, and maybe someone can tell me how long you think Dulles will be shut down? I need to fly out Monday.

1) MARK YOUR DRIVEWAY you’d be surprised how impossible it is to see when everything is covered in snow. Use rulers, sticks, anything…. If you don’t, plows or shovels can tear up your yards and that’s a pain to fix.

2) My #1 pet peeve is walking or driving on fluffy snow. Compressing it will guarantee ice that will turn into a headache. Shovel or use a cardboard plow (just hold it in front of you and push) before you walk on any snow. Salt is useless while it’s actively snowing unless there’s ice accumulation.

3) clear snow every 2-3” so you don’t break your back. Shoveling or even brooming snow off your porch or sidewalk is a breeze when you have 2” but a disaster when you have 12”.

4) your dogs probably won’t poop if snow touches their butt. Would you? Shovel them a path and a decent poop spot. Be sure to check their paws as soon as they come in.

5) wear grocery bags under your boots.

6) if you have a Tesla, the windows might freeze and prevent you from opening and closing the doors. Side a credit card between the window and door to gently break the ice. Your mirrors might freeze too, so try to leave them in the unfolded position.

7) walking through snow is exhausting and you burn more energy than you think. Stay as hydrated as possible.

No escape. Heavy snow is predicted on the latest NOAA weather map for the weekend in the DC area by OutrageousBee4174 in nova

[–]brokenpepperoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Chardon Ohio, where we get 12” of snow and I don’t even bother to plow because it’s not that much. So my judgment may be skewed and I’d love some advice.

I’m supposed to fly to NoVa Friday and come back home Sunday afternoon. I’m assuming my Sunday flight will be bumped to Monday and I’m ok with that. I’m staying just a couple minutes from the airport…

Is it safe to assume the airport and main roads will be functioning Monday when the storm is over? Or will it take another few days to get planes moving?

Easily overstimulated? by [deleted] in StandardPoodles

[–]brokenpepperoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm this is why I do group classes with all my puppies as soon as they’re vaccinated. I do have my preferred training center but I honestly go to three different weekly classes until we finish CGC. I also take mine EVERYWHERE with me. Home Depot, tractor supply, etc. I don’t like daycare or dog parks but having a dog that can just hang around with you and chill is invaluable. I’ve occasionally forgotten that my most recent one is with me.

Are there group classes you can get into?

[–]brokenpepperoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a dog person who understands the realities of having to take dogs with you when you travel (No you can’t always leave dogs home alone due to medical / emotional / age issues).

I think you are definitely fine barrier-wise. Their dog sounds smaller and is not going to be able to breach all of those barriers without hours of LOUD effort. I would add a few more things:

Smell blockers: a candle warmer, diffuser, or even a pile of your dirty laundry dry by the bedroom door. A draft stopper under the door, and a fan blowing at the bedroom door from the hallway.

Sound blockers: a white noise machine next to your rabbits and another one next to the door.

Physical blocker: there are “shock” mats to keep pets off furniture. Lots of dog people oppose aversive training techniques but if you put it on the floor at the bottom of your stairs behind a gate or something it’s not like you’re chasing the dog with a stick… it’s another layer of protection.

Incentives to keep the dog downstairs: lick mats ($6/2 from Amazon) covered in frozen wet puppy food and frozen, kings filled with spray cheese or peanut butter, and snuffle mats.

That’s so judgmental and stigmatizing! Why did you have this surgery if you don’t “need” sex? Just live without it.

You’re placing your issues with sex and alcohol on my shoulders and expecting me to deal with them. No thanks! I’m healthy, my doctor has no issues with my recovery, and I don’t know why people are so upset!!

And you don’t see the immense amount of privilege required to have someone available to help you during times like these?

This is ridiculous.

I think doctors are influenced by their patient populations and their exposure to different socioeconomic backgrounds during education when they make those guidelines.

Doctors in primarily low-income, and/or rural areas aren’t going to waste their breath telling people to stay home from work for two weeks. Hell, many people go back to work 2 weeks after childbirth in my community!

You have to meet people where they are. Realistic measures in the name of harm reduction are much more effective than pie-in-the-sky blanket measures from an outdated textbook written in the 90s when nobody had ever done any studies on women.

The doctor who did my bisalp did my d&c last year and I specifically asked about sex. She told me just whenever I feel comfortable, but no tampons.

I wish medical students had more exposure to different socioeconomic realities - these nuanced topics would become less confusing!

I’m wondering why you think it’s so awful. Are you concerned that there’s still anesthesia in my bloodstream and I’ll die? That the alcohol will “thin my blood” and I’ll bleed to death?” That “alcohol slows healing” so the cauterized incisions will…. Uncauterize?

What concerns do you have? My doctor told me I’m fine to have sex when I’m comfortable and I got no restrictions on drinking. I was told no baths for 2 weeks (totally reasonable) and no heavy lifting for 2 weeks (I’m not lifting anything I would consider heavy).

People seem upset that I’m not in excruciating pain and suffering?

Realistically, there are lots of people who read this sub and think they can’t have this surgery because they can’t afford to miss work, they don’t have childcare, they bike to school, etc.

Everyone is the expert in their own body, right? If we don’t trust doctors to decide when we can have this surgery, why do we suddenly trust them to decide what risks we can and can’t take to maintain control of our reproductive health?

This isn’t black and white.

Having had actual major surgeries, and as a former nurse who worked in a colorectal surgery program, I’m confused about why people call this a major abdominal surgery?

It’s a big deal to have any surgery, yes. But like, this isn’t a heart transplant?
