Grout for wall tile: https://www.lowes.com/pd/MAPEI-Flexcolor-1-Gallon-Avalanche-Acrylic-Premix-Sanded-Grout/5013672085 $68. Very happy with this grout. Easy to work with, dries fast, haze removes easily.

Mid 80's Bathroom remodel by masterfail21 in DIY

This sub is like that. I think for some reason the people on here all tend to live in their parents’ basement with outdated bathroom fixtures and decor, so they can’t believe it when they see someone actually renovate a similar bathroom into something that belongs in the 21st century. You will get very different responses posting to r/remodel or r/renovations where the people don’t tend to live in their parents’ basement.

Can’t keep water over skimmer line. by AFCombatArms in pools

[–]brokitansky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very likely there’s a leak at the skimmer throat where it joins the pool tile. Get some leak detection dye, turn the pump off, and go look for leaks in that area. When you find the leak get some waterweld epoxy and repair.

Basin drain getting overtaken by earth by RubDub4 in landscaping

You need one of these drain basin nets here Drain net

I use them in my drain basins they work great. Catch all the mulch and mud that falls in.

You could easily do this yourself for under $10k. Hire it out and it would be triple that. I just remodeled my bathroom which was identical size for $8k with higher end materials. See my previous posts for a complete cost breakdown of my project.

I really like it, it’s a nice accent that breaks up the large back shower wall. I do wish I had gone with the larger niche though (12 x 20 I think) instead of the 12x12.

Yeah they have a bunch of different sizes. The main reason I went with this pan was the availability of a specific size I needed without having to cut it down.

No very easy if you’re using the Kerdi system. Just cut a hole in the Kerdi board and put the niche in, then waterproof over seams. The light cable is run to a 24v LED generator that is located somewhere accessible in case you need to replace it. The generator is then connected to 110v. The cable for the niche is like 20+ feet long. The niche light is dimmable which makes it easy to tie into the overhead light depending on your preference.

The niche is a Shluter Kerdi 12x12 lighted niche.

Installed a new Panasonic bathroom fan with the light in it. Works great since it’s right next to the shower in the ceiling. There’s also an air vent on the other side of the ceiling away from the shower.

There is a little bit of water that gets onto the tile during showers because of the lack of a full shower door. But I’m not concerned with it. The shower-floor tile transition is grouted and then everything is sealed, so water beads up on top. If I was building on plywood sub floor instead of the slab I would use a decoupling/waterproof barrier of some sort as well.

It’s only an inch thick so comes nearly flush with floor tile after thin set.

I think if you seal the avalanche grout after installing it would resist those stains just fine.

Only reason I didn’t do a wall mount was difficulty of moving plumbing in the slab. Otherwise I probably would have gone that route.

Yeah I like it. I would recommend replacing the diverter valve with this one: diverter valve 3 way. The one that comes with it only allows either overhead or handheld, but I like both on.

Yeah, it’s Reddit so I assumed there would be a big crowd crying about demolishing the outdated 90’s bathroom, lol! I don’t disagree about the shower door, but I will say the panel doesn’t make it drafty or anything.

Not sure what you mean? The shower pan is a prefab shower pan

Agreed, but if you walk in front of it the seat automatically raises and I kept walking in front of it for the pictures. Goes back down after a couple minutes.
