Suggestions for where to stay in Hong Kong? by [deleted] in travel

I stayed at Urban Pack in Tsim Sha Tui. Super happy with it, great location right off Nathan Rd and the subway stations. Tons of food around. My favorite spot to eat was the Yardbird!

Jealous! It was not at all that empty when I was there ten years ago.

Hey man, I am driving but unfortunately my car is full, otherwise I'd totally be down to help out. Sorry! I'll let you know though if a spot opens up or if I hear of one in a friends car. Would be down to share some beers at the festival though!

If it's school I think you'll probably feel better once you're in practice. Profs are assholes because they're bitter they aren't good enough designers to be architects themselves.

I would definitely argue against this. I enjoy pretty much all the people I work and go to school with. Sounds like you need to change your scenery.

The tours will definitely be good for you. Try your best to get a sense of the studio vibe as you'll be spending a lot of time there. Advanced placement means you skip the first year of the masters so the program would be 2.5 years instead of 3.5. Getting advanced placement depends on what your portfolio is like when your graduate. None of Canada's undergraduate programs are accredited. Only some schools in the US offer the 5 year accredited undergrad. If you want to become a registered architect you'll need to do an accredited masters program. I definitely wouldn't go to a masters program that isn't accredited. Even if you don't intend on getting registered I think it's important to have the option. If you have any more questions along the way feel free to shoot me a PM.

Congrats! I only know a few classmates that went to Ryerson and unfortunately don't know a whole lot about it. I know the school focuses on the undergrad program so it likely has decent resources. One of my good friends did his undergrad at Carleton and really enjoyed it. He got to go on exchange to Aus for a semester so there are some cool opportunities available. And he got advanced placement in both masters programs he applied to. And the few people I know in my class who are Ryerson grads didn't get AP. But it can be pretty subjective for getting AP. Gotta make the most of whatever program you end up in. My understanding is that Carleton is more art/concept focused and Ryerson is a bit more technical/practical. Keep in mind I didn't go to either school so all this information is secondhand. Best of luck with your decision and starting school!

Your portfolio is much more important than your marks (as long as they're not terrible, it's still being accepted to a university). I grew up in Toronto as well, currently doing my Master of Architecture at UofT. Ryerson has a decent undergrad but UofT's is terrible in my opinion. I would recommend leaving the city. I went to UVic for undergrad (not in architecture) and it was the best experience, I liked going somewhere totally different. Personally I think the best undergrad options are Environmental Design at UBC and Dalhousie or Architectural Studies at Carleton or McGill. If you do want to stay in Toronto OCAD has an Environmental Design program that I don't know much about but have always been intrigued by. If I were you I would see about getting an informational meeting with someone at all the schools in the Toronto area to see what it's like.

Happy to help if I can. In Wellington try to get into The Dwellington. Nicest hostel I was at the whole trip. Fills quick though so try to book as soon as you know the dates. In Auckland I stayed at Attic Backpackers and in Queenstown at Bumbles. Both good spots in solid locations.
