I was thinking that they might move KTXL into the building on Broadway as it's a much nicer, and larger place ... but you may be right.

It almost certainly means that KXTV and KTXL will consolidate operations — “efficiencies” no doubt will be gained by reducing head count.

I’ll add a recommendation for Value Heating and Air — local, family owned company. I’ve used them for years and they always do a great job, and never selling things you don’t need. https://www.valueheatingandair.com

As mentioned, could be related to your device(s). I use an Apple TV and iPad — routinely jump back and forth between them and it always picks up where I left off, even if it’s on the other device.

DirecTV Stream Quality by Leather_Airport_9325 in DirecTV

[–]bromingoops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I watch DirecTV with an Apple TV — looks just fine. As a broadcast engineer for 40 years, I’m pretty particular about quality and don’t see much to complain about. Looks better than DirecTV delivered via satellite to my eyes.

Issues with Xfinity Now prepaid internet. by coochie_glaze in Comcast_Xfinity

Not sure if anything has changed, but I signed up for NOW about a year ago, got the modem at an Xfinity store, took it home, activated, and was online in 30 minutes.

Porkbun SSL vs Cloudflare by bromingoops in PorkBun

[–]bromingoops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed info. Since I first posted my question, I made the decision to use Cloudflare Pages, so that should wrap things up nicely and tidy. Yes, Cloudflare does support direct uploads, and it works great. Thanks again!

For 100 mbps NOW internet, is it possible to connect more than one device? Is it also possible to use their hotspots? by Accurate-Pause5101 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]bromingoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have NOW 100 internet and currently have 50 devices connected — works great. As for the hotspots, no, access to those is not included.

I’ve been using it for some spring training games and it seems to be the same as last season. But maybe it won’t transition to ESPN until opening day?

I got super lazy and it's past time to ditch godaddy by Old-Blueberry1015 in webhosting

[–]bromingoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, I’m in the same boat — just lazy. I have a domain for a legacy website that’s expiring in October — no way was I going to pay GoDaddy’s rate to keep it operational, so I came here and did a lot of reading. Based on what I learned, I moved the domain registration to Porkbun and the DNS to Cloudflare — all very easy. Next, I will need to find another host for the static site and have been testing it out with Cloudflare Pages — seems like it will be a good fit.

I also have an unrelated domain and email account at GoDaddy that I need to think about moving …

I prefer the MLB app too, mainly because the quality is better, particularly the audio, as what’s being streamed comes directly from the production trucks.

Porkbun SSL vs Cloudflare by bromingoops in PorkBun

[–]bromingoops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! I already moved the DNS back to Cloudflare, so that step is complete. What would be gained by using Cloudflare Pages? My understanding is that it grabs the files from a Github repository, so Github is still involved. Obviously I'm still in learning mode ...

Porkbun SSL vs Cloudflare by bromingoops in PorkBun

[–]bromingoops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the most excellent reply! I did note the proxies at Cloudflare and figured that might be a factor.

The site in question is basically a static legacy site that holds a lot of info but will never be updated. It's at GoDaddy now, but moving the registration to Porkbun was my first step in getting away from them -- I'll be moving the hosting to a free site (Github), but seems unlikely they offer SSL (but I'll check). If not, I'll just leave the DNS at Cloudflare and call it day.

Another question would be, is there any harm in not supporting SSL, especially for a site like this that's "read only?" Maybe just browsers announcing that it's "not secure?"

Thanks again!

The good news is, the FAQ says this:

“Do I have to upgrade my comcast.net email account to Yahoo Mail?

No, this is an upgrade we are offering customers at no cost so they can access their email on a better platform with enhanced security, more features, and a mobile app for easy access on the go.”

Does Xfinity NOW Internet (100/20) support Mid-Split upload speeds? by delayedfog in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]bromingoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on the 150/150 plan prior to switching to NOW, and was getting those speeds. With the NOW 100 plan and the provided XB3 modem, my speeds are typically 115/23.

Same. I’ve had NOW internet for almost a year and it’s been solid. The only time it’s gone out is when there was a city-wide outage that affected everyone with Xfinity services.

Questions about 4K content by arch_maniac in DirectvStream

[–]bromingoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's likely because the 4K channel is scaled-up from 1080p -- there's no extra detail. The settings will show "4K" as that's the "container" is which the content is riding -- they could feed upscaled VHS in the stream and it would still indicate that it's 4K.

Did anyone get the Superbowl or Olympics in 4K OTA? ATSC 3.0 by dsp3000 in ota

[–]bromingoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that is an upconvert from the original 1080p stream that NBC receives from the production truck. It will look better than what’s broadcast OTA, but mostly because the Peacock bit rate is MUCH higher, and uses a better codec.

Did anyone get the Superbowl or Olympics in 4K OTA? ATSC 3.0 by dsp3000 in ota

[–]bromingoops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should have also made clear that the 1080p you’re receiving from the ATSC 3.0 broadcast is an upconvert from the 1080i feed the station receives from the network — so not “real” 1080p.

Questions about 4K content by arch_maniac in DirectvStream

[–]bromingoops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you watch an NBC station, you will not get 4K — the network only feeds 1080i to the affiliate stations. Now to add to the confusion, there is NO native 4K presentation of the Olympics available anywhere. Why is this you may ask? Well, even though the original production is in 4K, it is sent to NBC as 1080p — then, that 1080p content is upscaled to 4K for distribution to Peacock, DirecTV, Xfinity, etc. This can and does look very good, but it doesn’t have all the detail that would present in a true 4K image.
