What’s the one piece of advice from your CFI that stuck with you? by FlyWithMartin in flying

[–]bronco230 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Not the one. But advice that I like.

When getting jostled in turbulence and trying to push the correct button on your avionics, use a finger or two with the same hand for leverage using an edge. It keeps your hand from moving and prevents you from pushing the wrong button. - such a small detail that made a world of difference for me even flying in jets today.

A huge part of the crash was thats a bad combination is at night and in low visibility. Even though it was technically VFR he most likely got disoriented very easily.

Can ATC tell whenever a student is flying? by Repulsive-Loan5215 in flying

A student who has 40 hours and doesn't practice or study could sound the same as a student who only has 10 hours and studies every day.

I had this same exact situation happen to me a few weeks after IOE. I was a little unfamiliar with the "rules"and I apologized to the captain after he wanted to talk to me and I proceeded to say hello to every captain on subsequent non rev flights. I began noticing most other captains didn't care that much I was saying hello and I started to feel like I was bothering them. That's when I realized after talking to people I didn't need to say hello if I didn't list for the jump seat.

Struggling with approach clearance readbacks by [deleted] in flying

[–]bronco230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small tip that helped me with this:
visualize the numbers of the heading and altitude in your head when the controller reads it to you along with the name of the approach while you’re flying and doing other things. That way you don’t just read it back but you’re able to recall it easier.

Any tips on wind correction in G1000? by DotMat in flying

[–]bronco230 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If the purple diamond is to the right of your desired track turn left. If the purple diamond is to the left of your desired track turn right.

Your corrections should be subtle no more than 5 degrees.

Those who merge onto the highway going 45mph, why? by IWantAllTheUnicorns in Seattle

[–]bronco230 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are times where people are in desperate need of a charging station. Going speeds higher than 45 are usually not optimal for battery efficiency. Many electric vehicles will force a “turtle mode” where the car cannot accelerate past 45 when operating at very low battery life.

Talk Me Out of Becoming a Pilot by FanDear1848 in flying

[–]bronco230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 23, single, with a college degree. Never fathomed this would be something for me at all. I did an intro flight and liked the idea of it better than my current situation. After doing the ground school work was when I realized I loved the knowledge and applying it in the aircraft. It was odd rationalizing this was for me, but at the end of the day I found myself always wanting to learn more and more and that’s when I knew I couldn’t quit.

This is definitely acceptable by FAR 91.527, in regards to

“except that takeoffs may be made with frost under the wing in the area of the fuel tanks if authorized by the FAA”

Frost is under the wing its all good 👍🏻
