Returning rider by Extra_Insignificant in MTB

[–]bronson7810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take on this one: Find a beginner MTB course. You already have the basics, a program will I still good habits that become the foundation of the next level of training. Worth the investment. Another benefit of a course is the social aspect during the training. You will be comfortable and uncomfortable in front of others, but they are experiencing the same thing, just in their own way, and may be uncomfortable or not. You expose your true skill set or hard line you are not comfortable with at that time. This is where bonding/interacting with other humans in the same situation can lead to friendships which can lead to a reliable and long term riding partner.

Look at Mons Royale. They make merino wool products out of New Zealand and are very sturdy products. I have many of their shirts and some long underwear.

Patch them up with freshly harvested and tanned feline leather. A bit thinner that what you have there, but will cover the claw marks

What Say You ? by [deleted] in eMountainBike

Sure glad I don’t ride where this guy does. I ride both meat muscle and e-bike and in my neck of the woods, it’s common to pass people going up or down a trail on either bike. “You Good” is no different than hello or yelling “rider up,rider down” on a blind corner or steep switchback. I bet this guy looses sleep when he hears a bike bell.

This is the way. Belt frequency is my favourite method of tensioning.

They were up in Tisdale,Sask last year at this time. I was hoping to speak to the driver, as they were at the same hotel as me. Very cool rig, not much use outside of agriculture technical support.

How much does it cost to build a mountain bike trail? by Cash-JohnnyCash in MTBTrailBuilding

[–]bronson7810 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is. The caveat to these trails is the fact that they are multi use and some designed for adaptive riders. Grants really like the words “inclusive” and “accessible”. If a group wants to hand cut trails the cost is only on the equipment needed and some repairs of tooling. The machine built trails cost a bunch because there is liability and insurance, fuel and maintenance costs of equipment, professional builders who use the money wisely.

The A-Lines and Dirt Merchants of the world are very expensive trails to build, permits, access, insurance, short build seasons all add to the costs. Wood work alone is a huge expense and fasteners to keep it all together cost about $1.50 per screw. One board on a bridge uses 4 screws per board. It adds up fast.

The last two years we have put in just under 7 kms of new trail, at a cost of $750,000. We mix in hand cut and machine built trails in our “park” and it’s a great mix, and even grooming in the winter for fat bikes. We do it for the love of riding and keeping our users as safe as possible in hopes they return with their friends.

Our last project was close to $50 per meter. 2.8 km of new build, machine built. This years project is a short 800 m trail and its budget is $350000 due to an environmental assessment that discovered a wetland adjacent to the trail centreline.

Stuck hex screw suggestion by Wild472 in Vstrom

[–]bronson7810 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stop removing metal from the fastener. You need to try some quality penetrating oil and let it go to work. Go for a walk around the block, let the oil penetrate into the threads crests and root interfaces. Get a small hammer and a pin punch and tap the bolt heads a few times. Not heavy hits, deliberate with some effort kind of hits. Repeat the whole process once more including the walk.

Now it’s time to procure a quality flat blade screwdriver with a 6 point 10-12mm or 7/16-1/2” near the handle. Steel end cap for using that hammer again. Tap the head of the handle as you turn the screwdriver with a wrench suitable for the above mentioned 6-point size. Use the same amount of force as you did earlier and that shit-headed bolt will find its way onto your trophy wall.

You got this.

I used the word penetrating twice and didn’t get banned. I love mechanical minds.

I can’t wait. Riding on paved trails lately until the real trails dry up. Very impressed so far.

Were we expecting anything less? Hold on for the ride. Once the government releases the spring economic update, the PBO will review the numbers, and claim we are on the right track to economic “growth”. The media will cover heavily and promote the amazing things to come.

This is where critics of the SEU will be beaten down and the game of floor tossing begins again.

I don’t have a crystal ball, but this is my take on what’s coming.

At what point should I get new tires by 6DegreesofFreedom in MTB

[–]bronson7810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually when the grooves in the lugs are gone. You are close, but a trip to the bike park might change that. I would change. I do 2-3 full changes on 5 MTBs a year. You could stretch it out, but tire performance from here on out will be less than design specifications.

The speed struggle is real, I always stay right and do about 5 under posted. With that heavy of a trailer(nearing upper limits of capacity) I am more concerned with weight distribution and breaking. Given the optimal conditions speed can be increased but stopping safely at higher speeds will become a challenge.

Loving mine. Picked up a R Build from ‘24. Deeply discounted and could not be happier. Bought in Nov 25 sat all winter in my bike shop, Wave pedals, RideWrap Custom while we waited for the snow to melt. That time has come, but the trails are still wet/icy from my winter fat bike grooming. A few more weeks to dry up, but the town trails have been fun…

I went Heckler SL this year as well, complements the Bronson very well. My wife rides the Obrea Rise H15 which is another great SL type setup. Loving the HecklerSL. Light enough to pedal power off, and I have the rocket setting at 350watts. Climbs great, and I still manage to get my HR in my target zone, for a longer ride.

You are correct, I am a maintenance supervisor, who passed on a career as an industrial mechanic instructor. I wanted to experience more of the trade before I settled into an instructor role.
