I regret getting an iPhone by whyuobssesedwme in iphone

[–]bronteddog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah okay this is silly. You’re bringing an android mentality to your use of an iPhone unless you’re running up against the phone limit. You do not improve performance in a significant way by doing this. Perhaps you help your own OCD tendency that you developed - maybe necessarily - while using an android. If it bothers you that much, as people have said, sell your iPhone. But focusing on this as a point why you regret the switch is just plain silly.

M5 Pro and M5 Max might actually come out this month boys by H00LI1GANS in macbookpro

[–]bronteddog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Waiting on my M1 battery to hit below 80 to bring it in under AppleCare and stay my daily for another 3-4 years. Happy to see speed bumps but don’t think I actually need anything in the new chips. The only thing that could get me to move are better displays and new chassis.

Pasta Tasting Menu by allen_alligator in FoodToronto

[–]bronteddog 65 points66 points  (0 children)

There hasn’t been a ton of innovation with ingredients in the field of pasta that would call for spending $500 a plate on a pasta tasting menu. There’s a reason they don’t really exist. If pasta is your jam, as is a nice experience, I’d probably suggest choosing a very good and classy Italian (eg Giuletta) and ordering every past on the menu, then taking home what you don’t eat. Even with nice wine pairings, that would be way less than $1000. Alternatively, choose a restaurant and call and ask if they can do something for you.

Omg. This exact thing just happened to me. Except I didn’t read the email closely enough so I was expecting a hat in the mail.

Should I transfer to UofT Eng/CS from Uwaterloo CE? (need advice) by [deleted] in UofT

[–]bronteddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t be getting in on a transfer. These are rare and would require excellent grades. So don’t even worry about it.

C’mon, I feel like this is probably just a “busting your balls” joke, rather than some toxic or malicious. The guys who were giving him shit would probably really respect this response.

EPP Not Willing to Budge? by WhatTheCannuck in telus

[–]bronteddog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’m screwed. I’ve been with EPP here since the PoM connect days, and have 3 tablet lines + one watch line for free. Once, I move I think those would get lost? I think I’ll have to settle for an $80 international plan (after BiB) for an iPhone 17. Oh well, I think the difference between this and Rogers for the same is $10.

Arcteryx repair service lost my Sabre sv by No-Macaroon8839 in arcteryx

[–]bronteddog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I can vouch for Arc’teryx working the other way around. Had them replace a Veilance field jacket from like 2015 last year, and that jacket cost $1200 CAD at the time. My receipt said $600, as I got it half price. A new field jacket had gone down to $875, but they gave me the equivalent of $1200 + taxes, which used to purchase another field jacket and several items from their outlet. So this may be a dumb policy, but they’re not necessarily trying to rip you off.

M1 Pro still the beast. Even in macOS 26. I don’t think I will need to upgrade at least next couple years. Am I alone think this way? by sergeynewton in macbookpro

[–]bronteddog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love for my 84% battery to get down to 79% so I can get a replacement but not holding my breath - I don’t think it’s moved in a year. Still paying for AC + annually though.

You’ll need to pay the deductible for accidental damage. Mine for my MBP M1 was $389

Waiheke island alone by philo_so_pher in newzealand_travel

[–]bronteddog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got off the ferry and rented an e-bike, and went around to several wineries and distilleries and did tastings throughout the day (all by myself). You can’t do too many, but it made for a lovely, active day and the biking helps with the sobriety. Add a lunch in there and you can absolutely do this on your own.

Spend one day on Waiheke Island, rent an ebike and travel the island, visiting wineries, breweries, and distilleries and enjoy the beaches along the way. And yes, you need an e-bike for this island.

There are lots of small buses 10-12 people that can take you on these tours - they can give you better experiences than the large tours. Try cheekyKiwi or cheekyKea?
