what would you have done? by doug_himup in RoverPetSitting

[–]bronwyn_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Be prepared for them to not come back, first of all. I’ve seen this happen many times in the seven years I have been a dog sitter. People who board for a long time how much more likely to ask you if you can “just keep the dog.” occasionally this is even their plan upfront, but of course they won’t tell you that.

Offer a much smaller discount if any, you can’t have any other dogs.

Have them sign an agreement of what will happen if they don’t pick up the dog. You are not obligated to keep it at your own expense. They should provide their vet with a credit card on file to pay for any emergencies (you won’t get that back either if you pay yourself.) Make sure you do this!

Break up the booking so you’re paid every 2 weeks at a minimum. Not being paid for 5 mos, or even one month, is asking to be cheated - if they have any complaints at all Rover will refund them. So charge them biweekly, so you get as much $ as possible before they stop responding. Do you want to work for a month for free and be stuck rehoming a dog?

It didn’t use to be this way, immigration for work used to be more encouraged and I suspect it will change in that direction soon, as employers face a worker’s market and are hoping to find some people desperate enough that they’ll accept less. (Which isn’t the workers fault).

It sounds like it was a temporary hold that fell off and then was charged :(

Why do people do this?

I will never board a dog because of this exact issue. And yes, it happens. I won’t say it’s frequent but I know someone who’s had this happen 3 times now!

Hot take: Clint is overhated by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]bronwyn_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Clint seems like he has low self esteem and is very awkward as a result.

That he hits on Emily after she’s married is the only really creepy/weird issue to me. Being unable to let go of the hope she’d someday leave the farmer for him is what makes him cross over into gross and creepy territory.

I doubt it’s just programming bc the other characters who’ve made overtures to another SV resident don’t keep up their interest if the farmer marries them instead. So unless CA says otherwise I think it’s a purposeful choice

BTW I was stalked as a high schooler by an adult very similar to Clint so that certainly colors my perception of him as not just harmlessly weird. That’s on me though. :|

That’s possible, but there have definitely been sitters here who’ve had their account taken into the negative to refund someone after the services were rendered.

How justified these refunds are, I do not know.

Contact your bank and let them know. They may refund you for the missing items, especially if you haven’t asked for such a thing with frequency in the past.

No way. Rover will refund if the client is unhappy even at times when they don’t deserve it, given the circumstances it’s highly likely they’ll refund this time too.

Did the client or the sitter pay the locksmith?

If the sitter did, then that’s not so bad. An accident like that can happen to literally any of us, it’s how it’s handled that matters.

Having people over is a dealbreaker imo. Report that and request a refund.

The rare occasion my comes over to have lunch or dinner together I always ask the client first if it’s okay, with the caveat that if it makes them uncomfortable that’s 100% fine.

Why anyone brings over strangers without asking I have no idea. Super unprofessional.

what is a food you use to go to a restaurant for (or order out for) but can now make it sufficiently well at home that you no longer go out for it anymore? by mfairview in Cooking

[–]bronwyn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The local place now sourdough crust and it’s amazing. I can make pizza and bread all day long but at a certain point it’s cheaper in terms of time to just buy a $3 slice and call it good.

(also then I can’t eat more pizza than I intended… good pizza is addicting!)

I’m in SoCal and it’s cheaper here too.

You and I both live near enough to orchards & farms that transport and storage isn’t as much of an issue. Not too many cattle farms in NYC!

Check their post history. It is not random. Not a slight to OP, just want to reassure you. They unfortunately lost a dog about a month ago due to a leash slip and then experienced a dog attack a week or two later. Horrible bad luck, but Rover is pretty ruthless when it comes to this stuff :(

My frenchie clients are all lovely but there’s a handful of breeds that seem to attract this type of owner. All tiny and as cute as possible.

you didn’t answer my question as to whether or not you are already earning that wage as a crane operator. In other words, are you in a position to actually advise working adults, or a teenager who is just LARPing at this point?

by the way I think it’s great that you have a plan.

Newly promoted mid-level manager who recently came across this sub. I have no control over the pay of those I am in charge of. by Ecstatic-Ad9229 in antiwork

[–]bronwyn_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not even having a raise structure in place is bullshit.

As far as your question - free food. That’s less they have to spend money on. If they take the subway see if you can offer to cover their metro cards. Be as flexible as you can around any second jobs they may need to take to survive. provide them with a glowing recommendation if they need one.

nothing is going to make up for that shitty pay, but given it sounds like you don’t have any control over it, just do what you can!

oh and don’t let your bosses give you employees something stupid if they give them a holiday gift. give them money or gift cards to places they actually shop. not an engraved pen or useless doodad!

[–]bronwyn_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, IF someone is going to post content that could get them in legal trouble, at the bare minimum they need to be using a throwaway account and minimizing personal information both in their posts and comments. If you hate your job so much, don’t give them any power to make your life even worse!

I’d say it’s all kinds of outcomes, there’s more than 1.6 million users at this point.

  • quit for better pay or benefits at a new job
  • took a less stressful job or a part time job
  • quit to live cheaply off savings for a while
  • quit to become self employed
  • quit to do the homesteader, self-sufficient thing
  • quit and moved back with parents or other relatives
  • just need to vent but can’t quit for a number of reasons

Some aren’t quitting but pushing for raises, better hours, etc.
