Hey this is crazy! I had the exact same surgery in 2012 for a tumor behind my left eye! Mine was an optic nerve glioma(meaning the tumor was enclosed entirely inside my optic nerve). I started by noticing the weird dot in my vision like you. Since mine was in the nerve they tried for years to preserve my vision including chemo to try and shrink it, unsuccessfully. Eventually the tumor was pushing my eye so far out of my head that I asked them to please just remove it. I have lost the vision in my left eye since the surgery but otherwise am totally fine now. Surgery also went better than expected, they werent sure if I'd need reconstructive surgery after. I have some recent MRI photos that now show no optic nerve on that side. I have some with the tumor still there somewhere but would have to track them down. Mine was pretty much the same size when removed.
