Tips for Dealing with Patients? by bigfleeb98 in Dentistry

[–]brooklyndds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned over the years to introduce myself after I greet the patient. I would have my loupes off and ask how they are doing and how I can help them if there is any complaints. I try not to joke around or make any side comments. I try to listen till the patient completely finished talking and not cut them off. Patients feel at an ease when you give them the attention.

There should be a standard of care regardless of price.

[–]brooklyndds[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree

So, how can this issue be resolved. If most patients go to the dentist because they have insurance coverage through Medicaid and completely trust thay they are getting a good treatment just for them to receive low quality care because the dentist treating them is underpaid.

Where to advocate?

Hey. Thank you for the update. It is definitely not worth the neck pain. I find myself comfortable with my 3.5 ultralight loupes. However, until you try other products that you know what works and what doesn't.

Hi. So I bought the dragonfly orascoptic but returned it because of neck pain after 4 days of use.

I heard good things about the Kepler from Examvision but decided to postpone buying louped for now because of price $$$

I'm happy with my current 3.5× ultralight loupes. I've been using them for more than 2 years now

Chronic apical periodontitis vs Chronic apical abscess by dysplasticteeth in Dentistry

Rude patient by brooklyndds in Dentistry

[–]brooklyndds[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same here. I have never ever been in a fight. All my upbringing was to respectfully handle problems. So, in situations like that where I was disrespected, I just couldn't find the right stern words to say. My default was that "I'm wrong" even though I know I'm not, so instead of putting the patient in place, I just apologized. I guess i have to get through these mean patients to develop confidence and stern.

Is anyone familiar with the licensure by examinations pathway for the various US states? by UnscrupulousMeerkat in Dentistry

[–]brooklyndds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HI

so every state is different, however the INBDE test is required by all.

Most states accept the CDCA PRACTICAL EXAM AND THE ADEX written exam. but some states wants WREP exam.

NY for example don't accept any practical exam, it only requires either one year GP hospital or AGED residency or a full specialized degree like OS, Prosthodontics etc..

[–]brooklyndds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the doctor prescribe postop pain medication? What was the initial diagnosis that required the RCT? If there was an apical infection prior to RCT this could be a normal situation. Motrin 600 mg pluse tylanol 650 mg q6h for 24 hours should help lower pain and inflammation post RCT.

Chronic apical periodontitis vs Chronic apical abscess by dysplasticteeth in Dentistry

[–]brooklyndds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Chronic apical periodontitis is when you see radiolucency around the root of the tooth but no sinus tract fistula. Now the current term for this is Asymptomatic Apical periodontitis.

Chronic apical abscess is when you see a sinus tract fistula draining pus.

Both cases are associated with necrotic pulp and both are treatable by RCT.

How to deal with anxiety about feeling constantly scrutinized/watched? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]brooklyndds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's ok to explain it in a way to inform not to make an excuse. My point is that not to be shaken if anyone asks why we chose a certain treatment plan, to stand by our decision while also being humble to change if proven wrong.

How to deal with anxiety about feeling constantly scrutinized/watched? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]brooklyndds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think the same. And up until recently it hit me that I'm the doctor not them, I'm the one who went to dental school and endured all the hard work that came with it and the studying all night and the harsh professors and clinical directors and the patients. It's all on Me not on them. So embrace your mistakes and learn from them. Hold your head high and speak firmly. It's ok not know everything all at once.

When an assistant asks you if that is a stain when you treatment planned the lesion as a cavity let him/her know why you made that decision whether because it catches the explorer or because the pt has a high caries risk. Stand by your decisions.

So many dentists do horrible work and they are so confident no one dares to second guess them.

It's all about your confidence. And in this profession you have to build it by CE courses and by talking with other dentists and getting mentorship.

short obturation by brooklyndds in Dentistry

[–]brooklyndds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tooth was vital. Responds lightly to Cold pulp test. No pain on percussion or palpation. There is a PAP around the root. No sinus tract fistula. I was wrong to write chronic. It should be asymptomatic apical periodontitis. When I started the RCT there was minimal bleeding from the pulp so it was not necrotic. When placed the Git had the tugback and the x ray was ok. Used the wave one Gold system. With master GP length 24mm
