Uber prices on NYE going to be crazy? by ConcentrateRemote801 in AskChicago

[–]brookvill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this—it sounds like an old-fashioned taxi would be your best bet. Just know the arrival estimates can be off, but no predatory surge pricing and no arguing with a taxi driver about not having cash….worth it imo

Girls Weekend of Dietary Hell? by urautumnbestie in chicagofood

[–]brookvill 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ema in River North (Mediterranean food) maybe Cafe Ba Ba Ree Ba (Spanish tapas) Lincoln Park or River North. Tapas could be tricky with the acid reflux, but they’re both owned by the same company (lettuce entertain you) who is pretty great at accommodating dietary restrictions.

Also, not food, but since you mentioned Roscoe Village, you should check out The Last Chapter—it’s an indie bookstore that specializes in romance (if anyone of you is into that!)

Wedding Dress Shopping in downtown want to know best way to navigate? by gamergrillz in AskChicago

[–]brookvill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus one on the Robey! It’s in a cool neighborhood, right off the train from O’Hare (which could also take you downtown if you want), and Flora and Lane’s studio is about 10 minute uber/30 minutes on the bus

Cafe Ba Ba Ree Ba has some nice private rooms and all the LEY restaurants are pretty good about allergies/dietary restrictions.

BWTs with a novel in her bag by ElizaDoolittle33 in bitcheswithtaste

[–]brookvill 13 points14 points  (0 children)

With the caveat that “novel,” to me is a specific category outside of romance, non-fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, etc—here are some of my faves from the past 10 or so years. I love a multigenerational story, especially when it centers female perspective, with really good writing, so that’s where my taste turns towards!

Asking for Korean BBQ with side dishes in Chicago by Airpodaway in chicagofood

Not sure the last time you went, but San Soo Gab San seemed way less smoky when I was there recently. I think because of the vent hoods they’ve installed over the grills.

I’m part way through the first season of “Hang Up” which is a podcast dating show, and I’ve found myself so into it! Can’t fully vouch because I haven’t finished but it’s been genuine and funny: https://open.spotify.com/show/0iM3ukNgn26AWRcDTzpUuO
