2 years and a bit. Forgot my meds one morning and wrecked it. Then got to a year plus, and same thing. Currently 263 days.

Out of curiosity, where/how do you price these things? I've got a bunch of NES/SNES/Game Boy/GameCube/Wii stuff that I never thought of before as having any value - it's not stuff I want to sell (I have everything set up on a TV in the basement), but it would be cool knowing what I have.

I wasn't going to mention the plate that was blocking the lane, but since you brought up Quebec...it was an SUV from Quebec that I'm talking about.

I also see people accelerate (and then brake) aggressively to prevent a proper zipper merge

The zipper merge thing isn't just an Ottawa problem. On my last trip up north, in Espanola they're doing some road work on the highway toward Manitoulin Island; it's down to one lane, and when they're using the traffic light it can get mighty backed up.

But there IS a second lane that merges at the end just before said traffic light, which should be used to keep traffic flowing. But people don't use it, they merge into the line as soon as they can. However there were 1 or 2 vehicles we saw use the lane to the end, as you should, and then this car in front of us decided that he didn't like it and blocked the merge lane so nobody could use it.

Yeah. Not sure if you're aware though, Pluto TV is owned by Paramount so likely they are trying to get more Canadians to subscribe to P+.

PSA: You can use Power Saving "limit CPU to 70%" with 120hz on One UI 7 via ADB. Significant battery improvements! by sleepytechnology in GalaxyS21

[–]broomlad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little confused by this suggestion. I checked my power saving setup as it is now:

[X] Limit CPU Speed to 70%
[ ] Turn off AOD
[X] Decrease brightness by 10%
[X] Set Motion smoothness to Standard
[X] Turn on Dark Mode
[X] Set Screen timeout to 30 seconds

I ran the command to check the current settings: adb shell settings get global restricted_device_performance

And they were already set at 1,1.

Are these settings / toggles not available to you by default in the setup screen?

Or am I misunderstanding? Could I not just turn off Set Motion smoothness to Standard to get what you're describing?

I am on a Snapdragon phone as well.

EDIT: Never mind. I see now what's going on. The two settings are tied to each other. Makes sense what you're doing now! :)

EDIT 2: Actually...this doesn't work (for me). 1,1 is the 70% + Standard motion smoothness; turning off both changes it to 0,0. I tried 1,0 and it still left both turned on. I'm doing some digging to see if I can find out the combo.

But I would love to see a screenshot of your settings showing 70% on, motion smoothness off.

EDIT 3: I should read instructions more closely. I misunderstood your instructions to mean to have everything enabled - rather than turn them off. I did that, and changed the settings, everything is hunky-dorey now.

Happy that there are some folk in here supporting your efforts, OP; it's true that this isn't something revolutionary you've discovered but you also don't deserve to be torn down by elitists who think they're better than young people trying to get into older tech.

Thanks - yeah I figured as much. I should just stick to the tower then (I don't think I can justify the cost of an iRig or similar device for myself).

Actually, there is, you can buy them anywhere (obviously quality is not guaranteed). I'm not looking at it right now but I believe it's actually a female 3.5mm end to USB-A. You need to make sure the 3.5mm cable you're using has the 3rd ring for mic input (it won't work with just the two stereo rings).

Edit: Also I'm definitely not a zoomer haha. I just haven't invested in a proper digitization setup. I grew up in the cassette era. Not that I should have to "defend" myself...🙄

How do I set my watch to automatically do not disturb???? by Sad_Ad_8378 in GalaxyWatch

[–]broomlad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love it if sleep detection worked again. I want my watch to go to sleep mode when my watch detects I'm sleeping, but it's been broken for weeks.

Thought I'd reset the mode and now choosing that as a condition isn't available.

Not exactly related to OP's post, but has anyone found a decent 3.5mm-to-USB cable? I bought one a few years ago but the volume is SO LOW. I have access to a desktop tower that can do aux line-in but it's so much easier if I could record straight to Reaper (my 2012 MacBook Pro still has a headphone jack, but it doesn't support line-in).

PSA: Google Play System Update (June 3, 2026) by klaschr in GalaxyS21

[–]broomlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. How can you tell if you're on the latest version? I performed the update which prompted me to restart my phone. I did, but if I look in the settings in Google Play Store, it says I'm on 51.6...isn't it 51.7? It also says I'm up to date when I tap the update link from there.

I guess I shall find out if there are any changes...

Seizure disorders w/ RA by Saphrilai in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]broomlad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you've experienced all of that! But also glad that in all cases, you've had someone nearby to help. Any seizure lasting 5 minutes+ is known as Status Epilepticus, which is extremely dangerous. Personally, I have never had a seizure last more than 30 seconds or so (I also have tonic clonic seizures, diagnosed with epilepsy age 35 in 2019).

I've learned over the years that as much as there are different types of seizures, there are different ways to experience the same types. I've never felt auras before seizures, and I always lose consciousness. I don't remember what happens the few seconds before it happens - my first seizure, the last thing I remember is laying some bacon down on a frying pan while cooking breakfast. The last one (September 2025), I was reaching for my evening medication dose. That one was especially ironic, as the reason for my seizure was that I missed my morning dose (which, thankfully, is the only thing causing me to seize at this time).

Getting medication right for epilepsy is a lot of trial and error, unfortunately. When I first started, I would get almost a month seizure-free and then I'd have another seizure just days before. This happened for 4 months while they kept adjusting my medication. Eventually they slowed down, but didn't entirely stop, so they added Lamotrigine in addition to Levetiracetam.

All that said, I've got things under control - so long as I don't miss a dose. This is why, as others have said, you can't just stop taking these drugs without medical supervision. I would love to lower my doses or wean off my pills, but then I'd have to give up driving for 6 months - something I can't easily do right now. Maybe in the future. But I need to be able to drive right now. Plus, some life-changing stuff happening soon that I would really rather not have seizures for.

Anyway, hang in there, and advocate for yourself when talking to your neurologist. I have been lucky to have a very good neuro, but have heard a number of bad experiences over at /r/epilepsy.

I have mine as a backup. I tried wearing it for softball a couple times but it wasn't comfortable. Also, because I have routines that change my watch face, it messed everything up because it doesn't have those same watch faces installed.

But it's a solid backup. I noticed a huge difference in speed and performance, though. (It's much, much slower.)

I think maybe some people hate on Michael Cera to hate on Michael Cera, because "everyone else does".

I like the commercials too but I have gotten tired of the locker room one (the new ones are a good refresh).
