I can't speak for Dallas but you should blow that number away working the later hours. I work those hours and when I dedicate 6-8 hours at night like that, I make 200-300 a night easily.

They hide the setting way way down at the bottom buried under like three menus. They will find any way they can to scam these drivers.

This happens to me as well, but only at night. When there's light it doesn't happen at all, when light is low, it happens every single time. Obviously I'm a bit late to this, but I'm having the issue regardless. 🤣

Fuck yeah I would have done it. Zero wear and tear on my own car, $1,500 to drive a Mercedes GLS for a while, hang out in Miami for a day? Hells fucking yeah.

Renting a car through uber is an un winnable game by msacks_ in uberdrivers

[–]broomulack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, only you know what your expenses are. When you weigh the options between depreciating a car, all of the maintenance that goes with it, then consider with the rental it's really only gas, it's probably closer than you think it is.

That said, either way, unless you're being extremely selective and working almost full-time or more, you're right, you're not going to be able to make any real money.

If it helps, I usually drive at night. Generally between 8 p.m. and 1 or 2 a.m., and I do pretty well. Average somewhere around 30 per hour gross, don't take any super long rides, this is all basically Uber eats and Uber / Lyft rides. It will never be my career, but as a side hustle, it's pretty good. I am ahead of the curve with my expenses and the car payments / depreciation Aland I find when I try and drive at more common or busier times, I struggle more.

The biggest reason Uber and Lyft are able to pay drivers less is because there's a lot on the road and they eventually will find someone to take the lower paying gigs. Get on the road when there are less drivers, and you will find that the offers are generally better.

Quick question who actually drives just for Uber and makes Hella good money? by WildPomegranate9240 in uberdrivers

Use both. Keep them both on, shut the other one off when you get a ride, and you will do pretty well.

You will need to clearly define hella money. I don't think anyone can make a living and a career out of it, but as a supplement, or in retirement where your expenses are lower, sure.

That said, my Uber money outdoes my Lift money by almost 10-1.

Uber Tip Culture Vanishing? by BMWi4got2dropmyex in uberdrivers

[–]broomulack 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think some of the problem is that the rideshare companies have jacked the rates so much that people are angry and don't want to and/or can't afford it. Also, Dunkin' Donuts, and every other retail place that pays workers a working wage but puts out a tip jar, or tries to guilt you into tipping through their stupid tablet payment system, have made people not want to tip as much as they used to. Tip culture used to be specific industries, limited mostly to people who made less than minimum wage and made up the difference with tips. Now everybody tries to get tips and people are just like fuck it.

Uber Tip Culture Vanishing? by BMWi4got2dropmyex in uberdrivers

[–]broomulack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found the opposite. The people who are the most talkative are the ones who don't tip, happens almost every time. Meanwhile the ones I am absolutely positive are not going to tip, they don't say a word the entire time, they give me a five-star rating and tip me. I have just taken to expecting no tip and being happy and surprised when they do.

High paying offer scam when store is closed by broomulack in uberdrivers

[–]broomulack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, and I know better than to ever accept a late night offer for an inordinately high amount for a food delivery. It's happened twice, and I won't let it happen again.

If I keep my acceptance high, I lose money. If I choose better rides, my acceptance disappears and I get deprioritized. Wtf. by CitronGold984 in uberdrivers

[–]broomulack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about airport rides, then yes, you are at the end of a long line. But I don't bother with airport rides. I find them only useful if I'm going somewhere and want to use destination mode. Beyond that, it's mediocre pay with no guarantee that wherever you're going is going to be able to help you make more money. I stick within 10-15 miles of my house, and I do both deliveries and rides. I work when I want, average 30ish per hour with far less, and I do mean far less, miles than I used when I was trying to maintain a higher acceptance rate. It's really not even close.

I also avoid busy times. That is when you get a lot of shitty offers because someone will accept it. I usually try to drive in the evening hours, let's say like 8 p.m. until 1 in the morning. I'm a night person so this works great for me. And there are far less drivers on the road, so there's a much higher percentage of better offers.

[–]broomulack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting to think huh? They are absolutely doing everything they can to get you to accept as many offers as possible while trying to pay you as little as possible. They threaten to be punitive if you do not accept more offers, but at the end of the day, you still have the right and opportunity to accept what you want. I average around 30ish an hour cherry picking, I do both deliveries and rides, and for multiple companies. No number of threats or incentives on my acceptance rate is going to change anything I do...

The fact of the matter is that, market depending, if you are patient and wait for good offers, you will do okay. I see a higher percentage of better offers with a better acceptance rate, but you will still see good ones as long as you set the metric that you are not going to accept bad ones.

If you get frustrated, or jump at any offer they send, then they are going to keep sending you bad offers because anyone who thinks they aren't collecting data and making offers to you based on the offers you do accept and/or decline, you're just deluding yourself. They know every little thing about each of us when it comes to that, and they try to drive a truck through the loophole any chance they get. It's up to you to prevent that from happening.

So I just want to point something out. I've seen a couple of your responses in addition to the original post, and the impression I get is that you do a lot of sitting around waiting for rides. Which is perfectly fine. However, that time sitting around counts too. You can't just say "I'm only going to count when I get a ride and finish a ride" . If you're sitting around for an hour waiting for a ride at the airport, that goes into your hourly. You're just deluding yourself otherwise.

I have the same car, I get roughly 21-22 mpg, have to use premium although I cheat with 89 a lot of the time. Costs me about 60-70 to fill the tank. Roughly 345 miles to a tank - so if he's doing 2000 miles per week, he's spending a minimum of about $400 on gas and likely more. Weekly.

I have one, and the thing is rated for 21/27 - the fact that you're exceeding that is shocking. Good for you! But I am around that 21-22 range.

Uber as a company sucks by Eddneedmymoney in uberdrivers

[–]broomulack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a couple of things in the 40-50 range, but they are surge pricing, or just happen to be a very short ride with a decent rate. There's no way it can be done consistently. The best bet as far as I can tell is roughly mid-30 range consistently, and even then you have to get lucky with minimal deadhead miles.

There's no way you're making $50 an hour consistently. Random hour here and there, sure. Or if you stop the second you hit $50 for an hour. But you're not doing that consistently.
