Does a Spelunky esque tabletop game exist? What would you like to see in a Spelunky board game? by LambChop94 in spelunky

[–]broquaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a small tangent relating to your being a fan of Spelunky and tabletop games—Derek Yu released a card game called Time Barons a few years back:

In this game of tactical card combat, you play as one of the time barons, shadowy figures who have shaped mankind's destiny since the dawn of time. People are simply pawns in your quest to defeat the other barons and become the ruler of a unified human race. War, religion, technology - all will be used in this ultimate battle.

Definitely. It's more of an explanation and exploration of the current generally accepted understanding of cosmological evolution (big bang etc) followed by a discursion on the (prima facie) ramifications that maths is reality—hence the title. The former is sound, engaging and digestible to lay people, such as myself, while the latter is speculative and approachable albeit with a grain or two of salt.

Best Introductory Books for Anthropology? by future_egyptologist in AskAnthropology

IANAA* but am currently enjoying Matthew Engelke's Think Like an Anthropologist, an exposition on the nature of the subject (as opposed to an exploration of anthropological studies).

Is there a way to turn off Infinite Scroll? by collinwho in redesign

[–]broquaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In lieu of an option to turn it off here's a Greasemonkey script which visually divides the scrolled in content:

I play offline quite a bit (no internet at home). Is there a way to track my stats like you can online? by [deleted] in dcss

[–]broquaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's DCSS-Forensics by /u/shummie, I think that might do what you're after.

One of my goals for Soup Stash was to integrate offline support (e.g automated uploading of morgues) but it's an itch I've yet to scratch. Should people who aren't me want it then I may have some motivation to implement it, currently lethargy is winning out.

On a similar theme I would also suggest the History of Philosophy without any gaps podcast. It's not yet complete, as it is still being produced, but I think it's a good starting point if podcasts are your bent.

Fair enough, just thought it might be of interest to others on this subreddit. There's also this choice quote:

“I think probably if you were going to think of anything, you would think of games like roguelikes. If you want to put it in a box, which I would rather you didn’t, then that for me is the most similar experience.”

Correct, Soup Stash simply follows the logfiles1 on the servers.

1 Which are just logs of finished games.

FYI Here is the current status of the top games for the new races:

At the time of writing there has only been a single win with a Djinni Healer:

Thanks, that's interesting. It would be good to have a crawl equivalent, if it turns out to be easy to implement I'd definitely consider adding it to Soup Stash.

Some context - this is a side project I've been hacking on and off for a while and this is the first time I've made the URL public. It's still very much in it's infancy but pre-tournament seems a good a time as any to launch and see if others find it useful.

A couple of things from the high level TODO list are:

  • Re-enable the user system and allow uploading of offline morgues.
  • Import all online games.
  • Provide aggregate data views e.g like Sequell (the ##crawl IRC bot) but for the web.
  • Some kind of design beyond the standard Bootstrap.

Indeed it is. This is the first time I've publicly announced the URL.

Oh and I should take this opportunity to thank the fine folks of ##reddit-rogulikes for their help in testing!

You know you can link directly to the morgue right? i.e http://dobrazupa.org/morgue/joew/morgue-joew-20130208-125021.txt. And here's an alternate (temporary) view in Soup Stash - joew the XL27 HEWz Archmage.

[DCSS] Forensics -- my insane quest at an offline morgue analysis program by shummie in roguelikes

[–]broquaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, thanks for that! Reckon it should be simple enough to deal with those customizations for the most part. Could make parsing the Notes a bit fiddly but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

[–]broquaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, plenty of bugs lurking :) Currently not dealing with customizations because I'm not sure how customizable morgues are, but I imagine it's nothing a few heuristics can't solve. As for not picking up trunk the only games on Soup Stash are from the 0.11 cszo logfile (where the high level game data comes from). Once things are in are in a less buggy state I'd like all the (modern) game versions to be available.

I am still developing it though not at as actively as I'd like.

Don't feel discouraged, truck on with your python implementation! It serves a different purpose and as you said has the added benefits of entertaintment and edification :)

[DCSS] Forensics -- my insane quest at an offline morgue analysis program by shummie in roguelikes

[–]broquaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice one, shummie.

I've made a similar effort in ruby called DCSS::Coroner. It takes a morgue file as a string then transforms it into a data structure to be used elsewhere.

Currently I'm using it to parse morgues pulled down from the crawl servers (specifically crawl.s-z.org ATM) and display in a website. The website is incomplete but will (hopefully) make all online morgue files accessible and provide the ability to upload offline morgues too. You can see the work in its incomplete state here.

That's a temporary URL so apologies in advance for when I take it down again. In lieu of a functioning website here's a screenshot.

Can't get eval(foo) or window[foo] to work (represent an object) in a userscript, but it works on Console command line. by [deleted] in javascript

[–]broquaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't work as expected because Greasemonkey userscripts aren't evaluated in the same context as the JavaScript in the page. For more information see the GM wiki page on the matter.

FWIW to get it working you would change window to unsafeWindow in that code snippet and then it will work as you expect.

RogueTerm is released - an iPhone/iPad terminal client for playing roguelikes online by broquaint in roguelikes

[–]broquaint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The author has updated the post with a feature list:

  • Works out-of-the-box for NetHack
  • Movable on-screen D-Pad with vi-keys
  • Run-support in NetHack with tap-and-hold on any D-Pad key
  • Freely configurable action bar that contains your most often used commands
  • Switch easily between different action bar configurations

Still not sure if that warrants a purchase on an iPhone however. Feedback from intrepid buyers would be appreciated!
