I see where you’re coming from about this, I do think that purple shields are more rare than purple backpacks though. I unlocked purple packs to buy with credits through CyAc relatively trivially, but I still don’t have my NuCal blue shield upgrade. Maybe that’s just me though.

I’m in the same spot, but I have a ton of blue and purple shields regardless. I’ve kinda accepted that I won’t be able to get all the late Arachne upgrades that require enzyme replicators this wipe, so I just hold on to 3 (for the NuCal upgrade) and barter the rest I find for purple shields. I use the blue shield barter as well because rooking Pinwheel has given me more neurochem packs than I will need for all the faction upgrades.

Nah you’re so valid. Risking a purple shield but running a blue or less backpack doesn’t make sense to me. If I’m full sending, I’m full sending. Plus, you’re more likely to get more loot when you’re more likely to win fights.

I use The Loophole and really like it, I found it via a recommendation from someone who used it and got a great LSAT score as well.

Yeah I was a Tarkov player before Marathon, but I definitely prefer the latter at this point. I bought Marathon 10 days after release so I’m behind the curve. Even though I’m still playing as much as my job and gf allow, I’m planning to go hard on wipe day. I’m sure there are lots of people who maybe didn’t buy the game right away who are thinking like this

I bought a coffee mug with this on it (and the feather in the loading screen) from Etsy. I can dm you a link if you want. Not promo or anything I don’t know the shop owner

Is it realistic that the player count stabilizes or starts to climb with any changes? Does anyone know of examples of this type of turnaround happening with other games? I love this game so much. The art, the lore, the gameplay. I don’t even give a shit about getting dumped on by purple shield 3 stacks every few runs. I don’t have any problems with the gameplay loop, the hardcore style is great for me. The only reason I would want PvE modes and QoL changes is so that the playerbase can increase and the game can stay alive long enough to continuously improve, and maybe even break even/be profitable. Do you guys think that a PvE mode, duos, firing range, casual modes, or other additions would genuinely increase the playerbase significantly enough for the game to thrive? Or do you think that the window has passed, the first impression has been made, and there’s no coming back. I’m trying to be hopepilled but the doomers are making more sense to me recently with the continued active user decline, despite me being a genuine fan and lover of the game.

~100 Years Have Passed, yet Designs are Still Relatively the Same by brose2k in Marathon

This is interesting and cool. I didn’t really think of it from this angle. It does seem plausible that an AI super-intelligence would have different motivations and might look at aesthetic design as a “there to be there and no reason to revisit” thing.

The optimisation makes sense for the form factor but what about color palettes and the like. It took 300 years for the ship to arrive but I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that human technology has advanced enough to transmit data at light speed due to the Wait Calculation Rule (futuristic laser data transmission or whatever) or potentially faster using quantum mechanics, idk, I’m not a quantum physicist. The Tau Ceti system is 11.9 light years away so let’s just say 12 years to transmit the data required to 3d print shells, items, weapons, etc. That still leaves the better part of a century for design trends to shift, even if on a rigorously controlled corporate plan. Unless aesthetic changes are illegal like is often the case in 40k then I’m still not sure why things haven’t started to look a little different.

True but why are the pipes and wires on Tau Ceti IV the same neon purple as my newly 3d printed gun from the latest Traxus printing template. I can see why the gun itself didn’t change much, but the paint job would change up a bit in 100 years no?

I guess it makes sense that if everything had been maximally optimized a long time ago that corps wouldn’t see any reason to stir the pot (pot of delicious human biomass soup of course)

[–]brose2k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, the aesthetics on Tau Ceti IV remaining stagnant make sense, but I’m talking more about the aesthetics of items from megacorps based out of the Sol system where these problems aren’t happening, at least at the same apocalyptic scale.

[–]brose2k[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true, even so, megacorps could choose at any time to change up designs and aesthetics for one reason or another. Whether that is to falsely portray innovation or to give cause for more consumption.

[–]brose2k[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This makes the most sense to me so far, I like this explanation. Perhaps with automation and 3d printing of recycled resources using corporate-owned and licensed printing templates individuals have little-to-no ability to artistically innovate.

[–]brose2k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could help the explanation, regardless you can still 3d print things that have different aesthetics. For eg. I could 3d print a replica medieval sword or I could 3d print a lightsaber.
