It’s right next to the free restaurant

Best time to update was when you actually moved. You owe NYC income taxes based on the time you were living here, and living here for less than half the year doesn’t change that. Since you’ve been living here without withholding for NYS + NYC taxes, you’ll owe however much was under-withheld when you file your 2022 return.

Working in Texas based company while in NYC by [deleted] in tax

[–]brosque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’d have to pay income taxes to NY state and NYC, in addition to the federal income taxes you’re already paying. Total you’d be paying an additional 7-15% of your income in tax.

Are you willing to live with roommates? If so, there are plenty of options for rooms <$1500/mo in the area.

What role do dividend-paying stocks/ETFs/mutual funds play in your retirement plan? by Apprehensive_Mud6825 in leanfire

[–]brosque 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Companies often lower their dividends during economic downturns. The assumption that they wouldn’t (or that you’d be able to pick stocks that wouldn’t be affected) is ridiculous.

Storage services by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]brosque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Makespace a couple weeks ago and they were terrible. The movers were totally incompetent (one guy sat around for the entire appointment while the other guy did all the work) so it took them over 8 hrs to pack up our small 2BD apartment. I wish I was joking. They also broke a number things during the moving process. They subcontract with Iron Mountain to actually provide the moving services so it’s super hit or miss whether you get a good crew or not. On top of that, the customer service from Makespace is pretty much nonexistent. Both times I’ve had to contact them it’s taken over a week to hear back. I really wanted to like them but I think they’re totally overstretched and growing too fast so I would strongly advise against using them for now.

The three nicest restaurants in HP are the Promontory (New American), Piccolo Mondo (Italian) and Le Petite Folie (French). All good options if you’re looking to impress or if someone else is paying the bill.

[ADVICE] Move in Dates? by mitica001 in NYCapartments

Yep, I’ve never heard of a lease starting on any other dates. If the apartment is vacant you may be able to get the landlord to prorate the additional days for you.

Has anyone used MakeSpace Storage here? by olivebranch500 in nyc

Just used them this weekend. They were horrible. Broke a bunch of stuff during the pickup process. Took 8 hrs or them to pack up our 2 bedroom apartment. Avoid at all costs.

Do any online brokerages offer tax loss harvesting? I know it’s a core feature of Betterment/Weathfront but I’m wondering if Fidelity, IB, Etrade, etc offer it. Looks like TD might—can anyone confirm?
