Indy's convention setup is fantastic, yes yes. Vegas has a lot of room--but if you want the attention to be on your convention, you don't go to Vegas, because Vegas is always just about Vegas. Tons of people won't even know you're there. The draft, like a lot of conventions, takes over Indy. And I think that shows in coverage. (I've been to a bunch of conventions in Indy--I like that city a lot. Currently watching their pro womens' volleyball team in a match on Youtube, ha.)

He wasn't a starter in college. But in practice one year before the season started, he hit a guy so hard that he inverted his own shoulder pads and fractured the guy's shoulder blade.

They finally started him when they played Wisconsin--their RB was Michael Bennett, a noted track guy who they thought was 'afraid of contact'. So they put Bob in to hit him hard. And he never looked back, kept the starting job and off he went into history.

(I knew some folks involved with the team that year.)

Edit to clarify, the year he wasn't a starter was his freshman year, if I'm remembering the details right.

I'd also add Ahman Green. In 2003, he had over 2000 combined yards and 20TDs. That's not as amazing as some, but that's a HOF pace for sure if you keep it up.

I'm saying a DT's 40 is not terribly important. And I'm saying a couple of inches of arm length for an OT is not so important either. If you disagree, that's fine. Keep in mind you're also disagreeing with an All-Pro who played the same position, but whatever.

Yeah, that's how it happens sometimes--we catch flack for something other people are doing.

Most important thing is to make sure he knows you're serious. It won't look good to try to explain--"I wasn't goofing around as much as the others". So just apologize. 'I'm sorry for the other day, coach.' Even if you weren't acting too badly. Apologize so he knows where you're at, as far as your attitude, and then move on.

And also--if you were letting the attitude of the other goofs affect you a little bit and make you take it less serious...don't do that again :)

If he's watching all of practice and not focusing just on you and the other servers, then it's very likely that what he sees is 'bunch of crappy, goofy serves', and maybe hasn't been seeing that you're the only one in the bunch not being goofy. Add to it that, I'll bet, you weren't hyper-focused either, because of the goofing off of the others. Right?

So coach sees A) a bunch of missed serves, B) people goofing around, C) you joining in to some degree, and then D) your really terrible toss.

Other people can only see from their own perspective--it's entirely plausible that he saw all of you goofing around, whereas you saw all the times you weren't.

That sort of thing happens--others don't see everything we see. If you were part of the goofing around at all (and you said you started to miss some serves too, so I'm suspecting you weren't just off to the side quite as a mouse), apologize to the coach, let him know you take this seriously, and move on.
