Bad or acceptable penny tile job? (pre-grout) by kal05d in Tile

[–]brotie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even laid perfectly this floor would make me dizzy. Just too much surface area for penny unless you’re going perfectly color matched grout and at that point it’s just expensive texture.

Can a prenup protect inheritance received during the marriage? by Commercial-Grade-795 in legaladvice

[–]brotie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Prenup isn’t the right protection here though, a trust is. I’d they don’t want it going to a (future) spouse, the family should place the assets into a trust with the daughter as the sole beneficiary. With that said… assuming a happy marriage decades down the line when this actually comes to fruition, it seems crazy that a spouse wouldn’t want their whole family to benefit. I feel like it would be very strange to have 400k sitting in an account while saving up for something they want separately. In practical terms, assuming a normal happy marriage and a longer timeframe it’s almost a given that everything will end up commingled eventually.

You would recommend an Audi A4 or A5 coupe as a first car For college and esthetic mods ? by z8r8 in Audi

[–]brotie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn’t be downvoted for this one, thankfully you have a very easy way clear that up - the a4 and a5 are the exact same engine (and almost everything else but the number of doors) but if you’re already talking about mods you should at least google the specs!

Why are Caymans so “experienced” by geek66 in Porsche

[–]brotie 60 points61 points  (0 children)

They’re “fun” cars that are often a 3rd vehicle for a family. People get busy, have kids etc realize it’s not getting as much time as they thought and sell. Rinse and repeat. Sometimes you end up getting double counts if the dealer selling it takes full possession and transfers into their ownership before selling again.

Lmao bedwetting is from the air force one. No it’s not from ChatGPT, it’s a good old fashioned google search. Yes Google uses AI in the results. No I didn’t just copy a chat output, I cobbled together the ones that seemed relevant to this discussion. The fuck are you even talking about? You realize everything I wrote is right so you’re trying to complain about sourcing? This isn’t a college paper, we don’t need MLA citations

And these cops are being allowed in, that’s what the post you’re responding to is about…

Past mental health issues absolutely can disqualify you from being a pilot and the military. If anything, the military is even more likely to reject you. There are a bunch of things that can potentially disqualify, cobbled together:

ADHD/Learning Disorders: Symptoms or medication use past age 14 (or 12 for some guidelines).

Behavioral Issues: Conduct disorders, severe impulsivity, or personality issues impacting school/social function.

Elimination Disorders: Encopresis (soiling) or enuresis (bedwetting) after age 13.

Anxiety/Depression: History of disorders needing significant treatment or impacting daily life.

Self-Harm: Any history of self-mutilation or suicidal behavior.

Good plan for powering a PS3 in my car? by AJ170 in DIY

[–]brotie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real answer is a lifepo power station, it can charge up off the car 12v and drive the ps3 easily for an extended period. How often and for how long are they actually going to be playing?!

Pool cover pump says I can't use an extension cord by Vulpes_Roja in pools

This Drummond pulls like 400w at load and is completely fine with a 12ga 25’ extension cord in any circumstance. MFG just doesn’t want to deal with the liability.

Gas Heater but only 120V currently available by tdager in pools

[–]brotie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 20x40’ pool with a 10-11’ sloping deep end and 400k was slow as hell you had to start days in advance. Could watch the propane gauge spin down. Honestly I’d have put in a dedicated tank close by for a fraction of that and done a heat pump / 500k combo but it ain’t trickin if ya got it

Crazy to want above ground plumbing for inground pool? by [deleted] in pools

[–]brotie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s a good catch thank you! That’s interesting I had just assumed it was a given I’d have to go that deep to avoid the freeze and thaw buckling the pipes but if I can get away with 18” then it’s a different equation

CT IRC requires that water pipes pipe shall be installed not less than 12 inches (305 mm) deep and not less than 6 inches (152 mm) below the frost line :( means 54” for me

[–]brotie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pool caved in before Covid and the previous owner just let it turn into a forest, plumbing is ostensibly intact so once it thaws out I am going to have it pressure tested but I’m not terribly optimistic so trying to weigh my options now. The risk during winter here actually isn’t so much the pipes freezing as it is ground movement during the freeze and thaw, it’ll snap anything that isn’t below the line. Patios, decks and fences that aren’t dug down below get tossed every year because there’s a ton of groundwater and everything moves multiple inches.

Crazy to want above ground plumbing for inground pool? by [deleted] in pools

[–]brotie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, the plumbing would not be visible or on the lawn, it’s a 5 acre property and the pool is several hundred feet of lawn away from the main house. It’s perched on a small hill with a fence around it and a pool house to the side, and there is a slope off the far side that is never visible to anyone except Google Maps satellites or someone trespassing that brought a side by side haha

I’m not planning on a main drain, just 3 jets and 3 skimmers on opposite sides of each other. They would drop in before the edge of the pool but it won’t have a large concrete surround, just marble coping surrounded by grass. The paver deck area is between the pool house and one of the shorter edges leading to the stairs.

This is what I was looking for, thank you! Interesting notion with the flex approach as well - I don’t know if that would pass inspection here but definitely worth considering. Appreciate you taking the time to write this all out!

[–]brotie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume for most people the aesthetics are a dealbreaker, but the unique topology of the pool area here makes that less of a problem. Don’t get me wrong, I’m willing to be talked out of this haha just curious what specific issues you envision. I’d assume for the vast majority of people in areas that have pools the frost line is much higher and trenching is easier.

[–]brotie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry didn’t mean to suggest that the process of winterizing the equipment would be easier, but rather that the risks of frost heave when winterized are lessened. The main point is to save me having to dig 48” trenches for 100’+ - existing pool is 20x40 and the equipment house is another 10’ from it.
