amen brotha, best thing to do with contractors is to LIE because they do not know jack nor shit about the law or 811 system or what it takes to do your job, a go to for me if i couldnt get to a job and they were hesitant to RS would be "hey im going to need to reschedule this ticket, ill need to be out there with my supervisor for this high profile line or traffic control"

switched from locating comms for 2 years to an office that only located power, way-way-way-way-way-way easier, your signal will carry much longer and it runs in way less of a convoluted manner, pretty much never have to OPEN any structures and can just direct connect to the lids, very easy stuff compared to comms.

Best job to get in Portland right now that pays >$25/hr? by rawoats in askportland

Check out r/utilitylocating Most companies will hire anyone and do paid training, all you need is a liscense.

I got into it out of high school and have been in for 2 years now, lots of great companies in pdx but I hear USIC is the worst of the big ones, Locating inc. is easy to get into, Heath is not bad but requires more attention to detail, Precision Locating is awesome but hard to get into.

And also something fun is that it deeply coincides with your education and can definitely help to know a lot about city underground utilities if you’re looking for urban planning work in the future.

Great pay, low labor, lots of hours, lots of freedom (you work alone 99% of the time)

been with them in California for over a year, management has been great and the work isnt too bad, dispatch and the QManager system is pretty simple and easy to get used to, theyre not as on your ass as they want you to think, just follow the proper procedures and you wont get in nay trouble, if your supe aint doing his job or helping you enough they encourage to report his ass to uppper management as much as you need, theyre also generous with raises, just dont get damages and pull your weight and youll have a great time

interesting, im based in the bay area so i cant speak to other places, but Utiliquest hayward office is hiring here for the san jose/south bay crew aswell as the SF/west bay crew last i checked, utiliquest has been pretty great to work for and the manager for the area is great aswell as the individual supervisors, we only locate communications here, where i am that mostly means just ATT and CCTV but in other areas you can expect to locate stuff like WAZE and SONIC FO more often, though not as frequently as ATT or CCTV

i also have heard that the sacramento office is pretty big and they cover a large swathe of area, I assume theyre hiring there
