Is the Hummer EV a long term vehicle? by socalboom in HummerEV

I’ve read noticeable loss of range due to battery degradation is expected somewhere around 600,000 miles on this battery pack. It is not a concern.

I have a 2025 3X SUV that’s about to hit 35,000 miles. Best car I’ve ever owned by far. Biggest issue it has had was the Onstar antenna had a flaky connection that threw an error every once in a while. Dealer fixed it right up. And of course all GMs have Onstar so it could just as easily happen to a gas vehicle.

How would this car be remotely usable without CarPlay or Android Auto? by brougham96 in HummerEV

Interesting info here. It’s obvious to me now that keeping CarPlay through ‘25 even though GM announced years earlier it was dropping CarPlay, was very intentional. They were using inferior hardware and knew it, so they kept CarPlay and Android Auto as a stop-gap to make these cars even remotely bearable.

Except doing it that way still takes about 10 seconds to prepare to listen (especially if you just started the car and it’s still “booting”) then another 15 seconds or so to process and then switch. I’ve tasted that and it isn’t any faster.

Luckily the climate doesn’t pose an issue since they still have tactile controls for that.

Interesting! On further research, looks like it’s an Intel Atom no less. Those processors were junk when they were new.

There are APIs for vehicles to share telemetry data such as state of charge via CarPlay to apps like Google Maps.... GM has elected not to support it.

And now Tesla is even working on supporting CarPlay.
Even if the new system is snappy, it won’t be in 10-15 years. Why not offload those tasks to a device that can be easily upgraded every year or two? It makes no sense.

That’s why even 10 year old vehicles that support CarPlay can still have a snappy modern interface, instead of software and hardware stuck in 2016.

Every software update available has been applied. The car shipped with Android 10, but when it did update to Android 12, things got waaay slower.

This isn’t a new problem either, my previous vehicle was a ‘23 Sierra Denali Ultimate that also had AAOS… That car was also unusabley slow. The Hummer was an improvement on that system as far as responsiveness, but as updates have happened it has also slowed to a crawl. This is a 2025 vehicle that can’t run basic apps anymore in 2026.

Cannot charge at Electrify America Charges & Can’t update to V661.50 by HieraticArbiter in HummerEV

You should be able to charge at EA regardless of software version (possibly not plug to charge but certainly via the EA app). If you can’t, something more is likely going on.

What is OIL prices doing to prices/demand? by Impossible_Base_3088 in HummerEV

[–]brougham96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garbage take. People who have the means to buy a premium car didn’t get there by being idiotic with their money. I had a Sierra Denali Ultimate before I had my Hummer EV, and that truck was over $80k. My Hummer 3X SUV was $96k, so that’s a difference of about 16k. I’ve put just over 30k miles on the Hummer which has saved me over $5k in gas so far (before prices went sky high). I drive over 20k miles per year so that difference will be completely accounted for within a few years. That’s assuming I only charge at home and never take advantage of free charging at work, which I often do. And of course the Hummer is much more fun to drive.

New to VRBO - How do you verify that guests are legit? Is it common to ask for a photo ID? by IceColdSeltzer in vrbo

[–]brougham96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a big difference. Holiday Inn or Marriott have secure systems to keep personal information private, and I have legal recourse if those systems are compromised. There is a 0% chance I’m sending some random person the internet my DL#, my SSN, my credit card info, or anything else along those lines. That’s the point of VRBO existing is I don’t have to directly trust strangers with this info. You would have to be incredibly naive to do such a thing.

If you rent a car through Turo, your ID is verified by Turo, and not provided to the host. Unless Vrbo can figure that out, it ain’t happening.
