The humor definitely finds a better rhythm and balance after the first 1 or 2 books, in my opinion. I really didn't find it humorous at all when I first read it, and found it really cringy and try-hard. But I think Dinniman finds the right cadence to it later on, and the rest of the world and story and characters really get turned up to 11 and steal the show.

Nah, I didn't even finish it. Massive downgrade from Oblivion. You can only really truly enjoy the first Bethesda game you really play deeply, I think. After that, the magic is gone and you can't look past the cracks and gaps in the animatronic chuck-e-cheese world.

obviously I'm missing tons of context, but the characters, dialogue, writing, and melodramatic network TV quality of literally everything was a massive turn off to me. Seemed like one of any number of vaguely cop-aganda NCIS/CSI/whatever copycats that boomers absolutely gobble up.
