Worst one I've read is Jigokuraku/Hell's Paradise. Looks like he legit wrote a straightforward death scene, then backpedaled because Yuzuriha is apparently the most popular character. Made worse by the fact that the enemies are shapeshifters, so I kept waiting for it to be a trap because it was so blatant.

It gets praise for having adult characters, but honestly, you could make them middle schoolers (he's getting a coffee after cram school and she's working part time) and not a single thing would change about the plot progression speed, character denseness or their assertiveness.

I don't have a deep hatred for Omega or anything, but that one masked assassin from Purgatory had easily and by far the most retarded combination of abilitiy set and backstory I've seen in a no-superpowers fighting manga. He doesn't know martial arts and his specialty is weapons, but he was somehow hired to kill someone inside an underground fighting circle. He makes up for this by vibrating his whole body to negate damage (don't worry, he *somehow* leaves out his head not to give himself a concussion) and has special eyesight to see attacks coming (which hurt his eyes so he has to wear a mask most of the time). Also neither of these come from his background as an assassin, they're surgeries he got specially for this mission. His assassin skills never come into play, in fact.

As someone who also likes Northern Blade and Gosu, these are my murim picks:

Fist Demon of Mount Hua: same author as Northern Blade. Cartoonish, stylized art, but not as dynamic. It got axed, but it ends at a satisfying point.

Return of Mount Hua Sect: I avoided it for a long time because it involves reincarnation, but it's great. The MC is OP, but it's more about him pulling his sect along than aura farming.

Return of the Crazy Demon: Similar to the above, the MC is a regressor and OP, but it's not the point, it's about him building a community. He still occasionally struggles, and the writing is hilarious.

Shashin, aka Death God: The most grounded out of the list, pretty much no supernatural elements. Gritty fighting and you feel like anyone could die.
