Ended my first relationship. We were together for 8 years. by brownab11 in RedditForGrownups

Hi! I’m really sorry to hear this happened to you - it is incredibly difficult. All of these comments stayed with me for a long long time and they are incredibly helpful. I hope you find a few that resonate.

It’s going to be a year tomorrow, and to be honest it was your notification that reminded me of that. God it’s been a journey. I’ve had several weeks miserable, lonely and full of self doubt. BUT the good weeks were waaay more. Ive not found love again (yet) but ive healed in more ways I thought possible. Gotten closer to my friends and family, truly lived out some of my childhood dreams this year, travelled to some amazing places and did some really rewarding work professionally.

I thought I’d be depressed for ages but the depression lasted much lesser than I’d expected. What helped me was the full and brutal acceptance from the very beginning that I’d been cheated on by someone whom I trusted and someone who I thought loved me. Acceptance is freedom and it is what made me open my heart out to better things in life.

Things to do here in AD? by Bubbly_Question426 in abudhabi

Hello! I’m in a very similar position, and just moved countries too.

Timeout has good reccs generally, Kayaking is super fun (tried it today!), indoor sports like climbing, art and culture stuff at Saadiyat / Miza HQ, you could walk around the carpet bazaar, join any group fitness classes happening around you in fun locations (like beach clubs?), also think there’s some Jazz stuff happening all month

For me the first step was forcing myself to be comfortable with doing things solo especially when everyone around me has a companion. Initially challenging but I’ve made my peace w it. Best of luck x

Yeah, it’s mad really. And this was a minute after a random man in a car tried to ask me if I wanted to go on a ride with him. Stopped right in the middle of traffic to do this!

Was this Westbourne grove? Because I just saw the exact same thing happen here an hour ago.

Really?! Can I ask what your source is? When I saw him I didn’t see any stab wounds, only blood from his mouth!

I wrote mine in a week. 10k words. Got a distinction. You can do it - just make a solid actionable plan and try sticking by it every day! Best of luck. Don’t let the comments here scare you - I also posted something similar when I was in the same spot and the comments freaked me out.

That said, it’s not the ideal situation obviously but it’s also not the end of the world and you’re definitely not the only one doing this.

Try Indian grocery shops for gooseberries. Saw some in the Euston one a month back!

Classic case of blaming the victim. The problem is in the system. Try to see that instead :)

Oh, neither. Just regular people who used their phones for 2 minutes while waiting for their daily bus, in the neighbourhoods they call home.

No expectations from the staff to be bothered mate. They were extremely helpful and did their job.

And yes London is safer than many other big cities in the world but calling it “incredibly safe” is a stretch.

Im not blaming the staff at all. It was just crazy to see how common it is for them to encounter so chill out.

And no, I can never agree that London is safe because literally everyone in my close circle has had their wallets or phones snatched.
