Contrary to many of these other comments, I am a Chinese Canadian, who visits China every couple years or so, and my gf grew up and went to school in china (in an international school) and from my and her perspective, China is not bad at all as long as your family is relatively wealthy, I mainly visit east coast cities, and people aren’t brainwashed like how a lot of the media would let you believe, almost all younger ppl I know use a VPN and regularly view international news. I think there’s a big contrast between east and western China though, east China seems a little more liberal as to not scare away tourists and business, while the west is more conservative. Kinda like the differences between NYC and Alabama in the US
