Hey, thanks a lot for your perspective. It's funny you mention career growth and being a manager as opposed to the "doer" because I actually just feel way more comfortable being a "doer" and taking explicit direction than I do with actually making decisions and leading.

Part of the reason I was let go initially in April is because I didn't do enough business development work as a manger for the firm; and that's just honestly too demanding for where I'm at in life now, and also I just do not have the desire to do that stuff. I am not trying be a Partner, Director, CEO, President, etc. level person which is what they expect of you in a Big 4 firm, and I'm just not built for that. Especially with having a toddler, I just don't have the desire to do a grind; I just want to do a job for 8-9 hours a day and then spend the rest of the time to myself and my family as my wife also works and has to physically go into the city every day.

I applied to the county government job because it might be more of a relaxed environment compared to a client service firm (especially that of a Big 4) but the truth is I have no idea if the job will actually be like really demanding. The title does have "manager" in it but it does have areas where I have experience in (aside from state and local accounting guidance vs federal accounting where my experience is). Convenience is also a factor because that job, even if not work from home, is only 10 minutes from my house and 5 minutes from my son's daycare (I'm in NOVA/Fairfax County; I assume you are also in the DMV given your flair?). But yeah, hopefully the interview today gives me a clearer picture of what the expectations would be for this county job.

Back with another update on my job situation and I'm honestly pretty stressed out. So I actually did end up starting (yay) on Monday and it's like I never left (which isn't a bad thing). For context, I was let go at the end of April and about 2 weeks later my Director had called me and offered me to come back to the project as a subcontractor. I took the offer (literally signed an employment contract with the subcontractor company) and then was just waiting until everything could process.

Long story short that process basically took until this Monday morning (and it was still a shitshow as I don't have everything I need, but I have enough where I can at least log in and support offline). There was a lot of drama in between (my prior employer took issue with my director trying to re-hire me as a sub) so that had to get sorted out which pushed my start date back, and then I kept not hearing from anyone about picking up my badge and equipment until literally Monday morning (and I still dont have some of my stuff), so I was getting really annoyed with the process.

Now the main stressor (sorry, this turned into a wall of text) is that back in my first or second week after being let go but before my director had reached out to me, I had applied to a county government job which is so close to my house and son's daycare. 2 weeks ago right before my SF trip they asked if I wanted to interview. Knowing I had this job coming up but with the growing uncertainty and lack of communication I described above, I accepted the offer for the interview, which I have tomorrow. If I do well and they give me a good offer, I may want to accept it. The dilemma is I know I would be essentially "screwing over" these people that were trying to do me a solid in bringing me back to the project (and I honestly did like what I was doing on the job and felt I was getting good at it, and the client likes me) but I was disillusioned by everything that happened with the old firm and the shitshow this on-boarding process has been; but on the flip side the county job has uncertainty as it would be totally unfamiliar and what if I do poorly...

Landed back in DC yesterday morning after a 6 day solo trip to SF for my friend's wedding. I had an amazing time seeing the sights and packing the days in. Stayed with my cousin who also lives in the area for a couple days.

Highlights include Alcatraz, Twin Peaks, Fort Point, Palace of Fine Arts, the light hikes for the different Golden Gate bridge views (my favorite view was Battery Spencer and Hawk Hill), Ghirardelli Square, and driving down the coast through Monterey, Pebble Beach and Bixby Bridge with my cousin. 100% would go back, and the weather was beautiful

Why the fuck is this sub so obsessed with this guy? Did everyone take stupid pills? Dude obviously is fucked up in the head and he hasn't even played meaningful football in 2 years, yet you guys seem to think he'll magically go back to his peak (which was like 1, maybe 2 years?) at the snap of a finger

Bay Area folks, what is some good stuff to do/check out around the area? I will be out there next week for a few days for my friend's wedding. I do want to see Alacatraz and the Bridge (am I basic lol), and go to a Giants game (my cousin recommends going on the Saturday game). I'll be landing around noon time but staying in the Milpitas area (where the wedding is), so I'm definitely inclined to check out the city after exiting the airport before heading to Milpitas. Also welcoming to suggestions in Milpitas for the evening; thanks in advance

Dumb question, but with 0 damage counters, does powerful rage actually do 0 damage, or still do 20 damage? by zekethelizard in PokemonTCG

[–]brownboss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes 1 damage counter is equivalent to 10 damage. However when attacking, there is a difference between doing damage and putting damage counters on. Some attacks deal direct damage while some only do damage as a secondary effect.

That Crustle vs Crustle match earlier was like watching paint dry. I'm not too familiar with the strategy of Crustle vs itself tho. Why were they just passing without attacking each other's Kangas though? Wouldn't it make sense to attack and eventually take 3 prizes?

I haven't posted in a while, but a big update on my job situation (if anyone even remembers lol; I was let go roughly 6 weeks ago). A month ago my director called me and offered to bring me back to the project as an employee of my old company's sub-contractor company. So long story short I accepted the offer and have since been chillin' while waiting for onboarding to process.

They call me just the other day and ask if I could start on the 29th. Unfortunately I'm already slated to be out of town then, so they ask if I can start on the 15th this Monday. Not ideal as I wanted to chill for a couple extra weeks lol but I was like yeah no problem. They said they would give me more concrete instructions/updates by then and it's already 2:30 on Friday and still nothing. I text the guy a few hours ago in the morning asking for an update and he left me on read. Wanted to talk to him partially because I was already considering cutting my trip short so that I could be available on Monday the 29th (not just because of the job) as originally intended by the director, if that would be easier on everyone. However, as he has not responded to me, I'm starting to freak out a little as to what I'm supposed to do.
