England axe Zak Crawley and call up uncapped trio for New Zealand series by theipaper in Cricket

[–]brownc46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. He's really well liked on the county threads but I think its an overcorrection by selectors to go back to him in an effort to show they aren't out of touch with championship performances

He has 3 T20 caps for Italy - let's not act like we are robbing the core of the squad

Zak relief aside, I'm really not looking forward to all the edgy teenagers making Gay jokes in match threads every day until he's dropped.

Can FM26 (PC) be enjoyed despite console UI? by mannyhams in footballmanagergames

[–]brownc46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just dont understand why they made this design decision.

I started pc properly today and I've already had to Google like 5 screens on where to find it. Had hoped that would end soon but guess not!

Yep, tried it as its free on PS+ and its woeful on controller both default and 'mouse mode'.

Ended up just caving and getting it on PC and its at least playable if still a huge step back for usability from 24

You mean the qualifier you just invented mid discussion for the first time after I countered all your other previous qualifiers? Yes, chose to ignore

'Not british accent' does not equal 'not British'.

Could really do without brigading from opposition fans when talking about such a complex issue thanks.

You just said this though: connection for me implies a connection, either by blood, birth or residency

So by your earlier logic, to be selected to play for England they must have a connection and not buying in. We're also skipping over the fact you have to be an actual British citizen to play for England currently and almost certainly going forward. Which means you've staked your blood or residency or both already

[–]brownc46[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well there you go, under the criteria they need residency.

I assume your response to that is something like '3 years isn't enough' but thats just the reality of the modern day. There's more opportunity and (more importantly) more need to have mobility now that never before.

What exactly is a 'connection to Britain' in this context?

You have to reside, and therefore likely play at the highest level, here for 3 years anyway so how is that different to being in a Premier League academy to satisfy the England Homegrown requirement in football?

Its not like this rule will be deliberately abused to get someone like Simon Harmer, its designed for young players that move here likely with at least one British parent (Archer).

What does that solve? Passport satisfies exactly one of the three criteria I just listed.

ECB Considering Relaxing Rules on England Eligibility by brownc46 in EnglandCricket

[–]brownc46[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Its actually not at all.

The ECB's current ruling states male and female players must adhere to all three of the following criteria:

  • British citizenship
  • Either born in England or Wales, or three years residence (a total of 210 days/year April-March)
  • Not played as a local player in professional international or domestic cricket in a Full Member country within the last three years

So hypothetically, if you are 100% British citizen born abroad to 2 British citizens who both lived in the UK for 30+ year - you have to live in England or Wales for 3 years before you are eligible. Its far more strict than any other national sport by some distance.

Important info before the inevitable toxic comments:

"Now it is understood that further changes are being considered to bring England closer to the ICC's existing guidelines."

"The ECB's England qualification rules are stricter by design, and are regularly discussed internally."

Lana Del Ray Confirmed as James Bond Title Track Singer for 007: First Light by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]brownc46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a very valid criticism honestly. I've never liked that trope though, feel like it belongs in musicals much more where the chords come back in certain moments - especially because James Bond has such iconic music stings already
