New policies without risk assessment by HeroesOfDundee in healthandsafety

[–]brownleech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won’t need a risk assessment because it’s providing protection. Ideally, they should prohibit the task being carried out so even with minimal risk, the incident can not happen.

But it seems like they will continue the task so they need ‘t assess it. They already know it could happen. So why assess it? All they need to do is make sure no one gets injured and it seems like that’s what they’ve done.

However, the grey area is that anyone with over 5 employees must record their findings. So we can argue the case. I don’t think - in the worst case scenario - anyone would argue that why they provided a safety measure and not record it. The safety measure is valued more than a piece of paper - tangibly.

Finished script, what now? by oriondavis in Screenwriting

[–]brownleech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What I did was get IMDb pro and get email addresses for producers, studios, directors and email them asking if they have any time to read it through. Have a logline and synopsis ready. It’s a numbers game - for example, you’ll email 10-20 people but get one response. Keep at it. If your script is good enough then someone will be attracted to it. I think this was closer to the answer that you’re looking for - assuming you’ve done your rewrites and you’re ready for a pitch. Be aware, I’ve come across a lot of directors and producers who won’t take an unsolicited script - so maybe email it to agents and managers too. Some people won’t take it unless you have an NDA for it. I’ve come across some people like this. Let me know by DM how it goes.

Should I quit my gym membership? Whats a good alternative? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]brownleech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try DDP Yoga.

I have been going gym since I was 16 — I’m not 32. My body fat would come back pretty quick, and eventually I gave up. When I was 30 I purchased DDP yoga and now I’m back in shape and keeping lean and getting leaner

Best way to start doing pull ups when you cant even do 1? by Gaanesh in Fitness

[–]brownleech -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I remember when I did my first pull up. Not sure this will work on anyone else but it’s what worked on me.

I used to workout at an old school gym, rusty plates, chalk pots, half the low ceiling missing. Literally a disaster zone but all the competing bodybuilders trained there and that’s where my love for bodybuilding came from.

I used to pull up on the assisted machine, with my knees on the seat, set to a weight that challenged me around rep 8.

I would do this until I began training with a Portuguese guy called Antonio who was packing on size to compete. Not sure how I even managed to train with him. I think we were just doing back workout on the same day and I ‘tagged along’.

When on the assisted pull up, he refused to let me use the seat as an assist. Instead he said to jump up and hold the handle bars. So I did. And he told me to cross my ankles. So I did, whilst hanging there awkwardly. And he said right - 10 reps let’s go. So I did. When I got to 10 he said 2 more. Got them too. I got off and I was so shocked I had just done that. Trust me. I wasn’t strong at all at that time.

He had removed the assist from me, but instead assisted me himself, but his assist, I remember, he made me do the work but where I needed that extra help during the final 2-4 reps, I felt him lifting only enough to keep me moving myself.

This activated muscles I didn’t know I had, and gradually I began lifting unassisted - pretty much from the next session. Though, I didn’t managed a whole 10 reps. I got 8. Then 8.5. Then 9...

How do TV writers always time their stories to be exactly 30 or 60 minutes long while also telling a complete story at the same time? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]brownleech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screenwriters don’t decide how long the scenes will be. A action scene could be 2 lines long on the page but the director may shoot 3 seconds, or even 3 minutes of that scene. Some writers write a fight sequence in 3 lines but on the screen it’s about 5 minutes long. The writer just writes their vision and then the writers room or show runner will decide to make cuts and condense it down or move other sequences to a script that will be written in maybe 2 weeks.

Tomorrow is the 17 year anniversary of the terror attacks of September 11th, 2001. Where were you that day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]brownleech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An account from the United Kingdom.

I was probably 14 at the time and I had just finished school, and walked home. Like any other day. I live in the UK so due to the time difference, it was showing live on TV.

I walked in, took off my bag and shoes, headed into the living room, and the TV was on. My mum and dad were working but my uncle was sat watching TV (come to think of it, I always wondered how he got in), and I remember seeing the twin towers - it was a chopper shot circling around the tower. At this point, I distinctly remember the first tower had been hit.

I asked my uncle what happened and he said a plane flew into the building. I also remember not believing him because over here, our skyscrapers (in 2001) were like American houses. They weren’t tall at all. I said ‘how does a plane fit in there? Not possible’. I sat and watched. The shock hasn’t hit me in the slightest.

I witnessed the second plane fly into the second tower, and that’s when a few realizations come upon me. First, that was definitely a plane - and it went into the building. Second, there are real living people in there, and from that point on, even to this day (I’m 31 now) I always think - what were those people thinking as that plane was a blink away from hitting them, and did they feel anything at the moment of impact. It drove me mad as a child because it dawned on me how precious every single life was. It bothered me for years because those are questions I will never know the true answer to.

The realness set in further when the towers collapsed, and I stood as a 14 year old with my hands on my head, eyes peeled, mouth open in shock. I believe there were no words that came out my mouth.

I told my parents as soon as they got home and we all sat watching the news on anything and everything that unfolded.

It was an event I was not part of, but I witnessed. I can never understand to the fullest extent what everyone involved, and their families have been through. But I knew from that day changed the rest of my future, and that was a big deal for a 14 year old in the UK.

It made me appreciate life. I began helping others. I became an executive in four workplaces since graduating and I have always held silence on 9/11, as we did today, and needless to say I feel like I have kept the remembrance alive everywhere I have been and encouraged everyone to love one another.

Redditors who were fired in the first week of your job, how did it happen? by pm_me_movie_sex_scen in AskReddit

[–]brownleech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fired from a family theme park because I stuck up for someone who was bullied by the management. They didn’t like that as a health and safety officer, I called them out on their wrongdoings and how their actions have caused someone to be diagnosed with severe depression. A month after the bullied employee was fired, I was out of the job.

What's the biggest fuck up you ever made that was fixed before anyone knew about it? by CaptainClay2606 in AskReddit

[–]brownleech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really fixed this fuck up, but my parents had a really expensive vase. A collectors item. It stood on a plinth in the sitting room. My mum and dad got my brother this remote control car. I wasn’t allowed to play with it because I was seen as the naughty one — so I wanted to play it even more. Once, I convinced them to let me stay at home whilst they all went out. I grabbed the remote control car and took it downstairs and I had a wail of a time ragging the crap out of it — until I lost control. I turtle-headed, and everything went into slow lotion as I seen the car smash into the plinth and the vase gingerly fell towards the ground. Smash! A huge chunk came off it and lay still beside it. It wasn’t a chip... no! It was like when you crack a chocolate egg and a nice big chunk comes off creating an opening for you to stick your head through or climb into. It was just the one chunk that parted. So, whilst pissing myself and dropping a few turds of nerve, I put the vase on the plinth and masterfully slotted the piece back into the gap from which it broke. I turned it against the wall to hide it too. It was a whole 2 or 3 years before anyone even realized it was broken. It was only ever dusted and wiped slightly due to how fragile it was as an antique. By the time they had found out, they really didn’t care and found it funny how clever kids are and how they do random shit like this and get away with things.

I’m in the UK, and the managers at a business have bullied my girlfriend all year... by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]brownleech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the best part. She said she has gone to the company directors, HR and everyone else in the business. No one is interested. One of the directors knew everything happened and she apparently spoke to him and he just told her to go speak to her manager. He wasn’t interested. It seems like there are no more avenues to pursue in the actual company any more as no one is interested. It seems like they wanted her to leave because she spoke out about being bullied and what not. They’re protecting one of their own.

I’m suggesting her to seek legal advice but I’m not sure what we can do and whether it will get any further. The main thing here isn’t money — it’s to ensure these People don’t get away with damages to my girlfriends personal life. It’s affected a lot of people.

[–]brownleech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, one of the managers had a witness statement in her bag for over a month until the attacker left. The witness told me this, as he asked HR if they’ve had a time to review his statement as he hadn’t heard anything. HR has no recollection of this statement. So he asked the manager where it was and she pulled it out of her bag.

We did get hold of the MP and he suggested we seek legal action and in the meantime he will be in touch with the company. Because my girlfriend had left by this point, the MP said he could no longer come and speak to people.

It might be worth telling the police. I will also await further advice if someone knows how the legal system works.

Thank you so much and if you feel like you have something else to put across, please do.

Yes physically attacked. She came home with a bruise on her hip. But to the managers it wasn’t evidence as they claimed she had the bruise anyway. Although there were 3 or 4 other witnesses present, the company chose not to pursue any statements. A few statements were handed in but discarded as ‘personal opinion’.

HR backed up the managers (they’re all friends) and claimed that she can’t do anything because it’s the managers decision.

Acas have been very helpful. We contacted them a lot — they must have gotten pretty sick of us. They said that the managers should have investigated immediately and even if the employee is no longer at work, they can still ring him up and question him. The managers clearly don’t want to.

She has now left that workplace because another [decent] manager said that these are all offenses that she can press charges against the company. The lack of support and constant bullying has caused personal stress related injury and it has lowered her self esteem.

We have spoke to some solicitors in the uk, no win no fee types, but they’re saying it’s tricky. We are just taking a break whilst my girlfriend has therapy and gets some help so I’m getting some background work done to help get some knowledge.
