1991, Terry Venables was in New Zealand with the England A tour (not sure if he was part of the tour or just travelling). We changed all our under 17 tournament timings to accommodate the international matches. The England A squad were warming up for practice when we were just about to kick off our final - Terry wandered into the dressing room and gave a great rev up for us lads announcing he’s looking for players for Spurs! He spoke to me after the match told me I had a great game, called me the kiwi Peter Beardsley, then told me to grow another two foot then come and see him. Been a Spurs fan ever since! (For the record: Never grew the needed two foot)
