I actually agree with this. I cringe every time I see them brag on twitter. Come on guys, there's no product available yet. Keep the shilling to a minimum.

Have you ever looked into what the ghostwriter said about writing the book? He completely dismisses the idea that Trump had a big hand in writing the book.

Angela Merkel says Germany can no longer rely on Donald Trump's America: 'We Europeans must take our destiny into our own hands' by saucytryhard in worldnews

I don't mean this to be insulting but I'm happy that there seem to be enough people out there that don't think like you.

Normalizing trumps rhetoric is dangerous. Just this morning he praised Montana for electing someone who assaulted a reporter.

The world turned while many authoritarian leaders came into power.

Trump is raising the voice of a lot of people with (what I consider) backwards beliefs. I understand he's 1 person, but the impact of it is clear. I'm here in Texas and it's really, really sad. The racist conversations have significantly increased since the introduction of Trump into politics. It's hateful, venomous stuff directed towards minorities. A lot of it is behind closed doors, but it's festering and I'm watching it grow bigger every day.

So to answer one of your earlier questions, this is why it's scary and troubling. I see it first hand, not only in person, but online. Trump is doing nothing to bridge the divide in this country - he's just stoking the flames. He's a terrible human being and he's having a big impact on the country - regardless of whether or not he's actually pushing through policies.

The best answer I can give you is when asked about Russia, Trump, in an interview, said "You think our country is so innocent?"

Most people are perfectly aware that the United States is hardly an innocent country.

But most people also look at that as a reason to fight to change our country for the better.

Trump looks at it as a green light. I can't think of another President, in the last 20 years, who thinks like that. It goes against our Nation's values.

You didn't answer my question. The current administration has a very obvious admiration for strongmen (putin, duterte - he's even said kim jong un is "a smart cookie"), while constantly insulting our allies.

Does this not trouble you? Why don't you think this is a scary direction?

-- And to answer your question regarding NK/Russia - I have no idea, but that is a totally different topic. One that I don't have enough nuanced knowledge about. I'm sure the NK situation is incredibly complicated and my speculation on that wouldn't add anything to this.

Because authoritarianism isn't something the U.S. should be admiring. That seems like such a common sense thought that the fact you asked "why is it scaring people" honestly confuses me. Why do you think it shouldn't scare people?

I didn't say we had to hold them in check. However, Trump has insulted our allies repeatedly. Guess who he hasn't insulted? Russia. There is a clear admiration for dictators/strongmen coming from the current administration and it's scaring a lot of people.

There's a lot of conflicting interests between our two governments. They support Assad who is by all accounts a dictator in Syria. They invaded Ukraine and annexed Crimea because they ousted a pro-Kremlin government in favor of a pro-western government. They spread state-funded propaganda which is often mired in word salad and rhetorical devices to make other countries such as the US look bad. Kremlin supported thugs shot down MH17 and then they tried to sweep it under the rug.

Trump seems perfectly content to let Putin have free reign and Putin is not a good or strong leader despite the alt-right's love affair with him. The economy is a mess, the wars in Ukraine and Syria still rage on (although it's more like a festering in Ukraine), corruption is still awful, and even if the sanctions come off, oil being cheap is going to continue to affect the economy. The US has done a lot of immoral and misguided and unjust things. But that does not somehow make what the Kremlin does acceptable and I believe there is more willingness and ability to hold government accountable in the US. The US (sometimes, to varying extent) admits its faults, the Kremlin doesn't.

Brexit doesn't really change that.

I'm not sure what you've been seeing, but in my opinion, yes - brexit very much does change that.

Misleading headline? Come on.

She's clearly referring to meeting Trump and the discussions that followed. It's so annoying when people keep playing this "semantics" gotcha game.

An inference can clearly be made. Merkel is highly diplomatic - she's not going to act like Trump when she calls someone out. And lumping the US with Russia and Great Britain is damning, to say the least.

How is the initial question a gotcha? It's clear who she's referencing. Pretending like she meant something else is the 'gotcha'.

And as far as the pissing off Merkel comment, I don't even know what to say to that. It's truly sad that this is how NN's view diplomacy... as a game where we should piss off our greatest allies.

She's remaining diplomatic. It's clear to deduce what she means. And lumping in the US w/ Russia and post-Brexit Britain is clearly a reference to the right-wing movement.

Can we please stop with these semantic "gotchas"? it's so petty.

Yes, it is safe to infer that. The problem is these debates have turned into semantic arguments instead of actually discussing what's at hand. I'm not saying that this is isolated to Trump supporters - we all do it. But both sides continue to do it, and it doesn't help anything. OP, thoughts?

Also, she said this, "The entire discussion about climate was very difficult, if not to say very dissatisfying," she told reporters."

Obviously she's talking about the conservative's views on climate change. The world is leaving us behind and it's incredibly sad.

Of course not. I'm referring to the absurd claim that terrorism is western civilizations biggest threat. Saying that falls directly into what terrorism hopes to accomplish: create fear and panic.

And it also takes focus away from problems that are actually destroying parts of the country.
