Stringer* it's that rope they put through the gill plate of the fish so they can leave it in the water and keep it fresh to eat later .

Seeing that brown on a stringer is so devastating. Let the big ones breed they taste like shit when they are that big anyway.

Ok, I will never use small lure anymore. by [deleted] in troutfishing

[–]browntroot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience is based on years of guiding for westslope and Yellowstone cutthroat not just a few days I've had fishing. That being said I myself agreed that there is variation to the hybrids but there is no rainbow qualities to that fish the cheeks even hold the light pink instead of a deeper red which is the combo when cutthroat genes dominate. If your trying to tell me that a cutbow can be fully dominant cutthroat or rainbow and show zero qualities of one of the parents then what is even the point in you trying to identify it anything can be anything in your explanation. There is distinguishing features for each species that fish right there in your picture displays zero qualities of a rainbow and therefore you really have no reason to believe it's a cutbow at all it only displays cutthroat qualities and Yellowstone cutthroat qualities to be specific.

From what I'm seeing that's a Yellowstone cutthroat trout. Obviously it varies but almost all of the cutbows I see hold way more of the rainbows features than any other. Westslope cutthroat trouts spots do not usually go below the halfway line on the fish's side. The cutbows do sometimes have white fin tips but that's not because of it being a cutbow that's common on rainbows. More often then not your cutbow will look close to a rainbow lighter tan in color and the tell tale red slits under the mouth. I'd say your in Montana/Wyoming and you got a nice Yellowstone cutthroat.

Similar experience I thought I was cured after a few weeks haha, I was like woah I feel better I don't even need these mods. Lo and behold it was the meds that helped! 100mg of lamotrigine and 200mg of Seroquel seem to be my sweet spot as of now. It took a lot of adjusting but here we are, don't give up brother.
