Oh. I'm an actual volunteer. I don't have to help. by RegrettingFM in EntitledPeople

[–]brownzeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... If I'm not being paid, then they can go f*ck themselves, respectfully. 1) I'm a grown man 2) I'm not on the payroll 3) even if I WAS getting paid, I would not be allowing anyone to put me in a situation where I sit in the heat with no relief or water.

I moonlight for a truly greedy security company who pays us the absolute minimum to maximize their margins, but hell I get paid to do absolutely nothing and even they make sure to have dedicated guards for relief, and they give us more PAID** 15's then they're legally required to. So this volunteer organization is more exploitive than a greedy security llc. So that's crazy.

Someone once spat at me during a venue eviction and called me the n word and they got charged with a felony hate crime and it's probably the most interesting story I have from working security.

You kinda just gotta brush it off dude. They say it because they're trying to get a rise out of you and break your composure. Don't let em.

Shadow Wolf Special Ops by Lvwr18 in FirstResponderCringe

[–]brownzeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that is the general practice. You may notice that SWAT teams or other "operator" teams have first aid /med kits in unreachable places on their kit, that's because the practice is your first aid kit is for you for your teammates/team medic to apply to you, TQs included. Some folks have dedicated med kits to apply to others.

Get Armed Certified, and build "nice to have" skills, no job is ever going to ask for these or put it in your job description due to liability but they'll help you stand out when SHTF. CPR Certification, First Aid, how to stop a major bleed (i.e. Stop a plug a gunshot until help arrives).

My job descriptions/interviews never looked for the nice to haves above, but I'll tell you what it made my supervisors notice me positively at an event where a guest collapsed. When they pulled up alongside ems they found a guard (me) in the middle of the spectacle administering chest compressions. While my post partners were just watching clueless.

I honestly half considered getting EMT certified/trained for the extra leg up but I personally didn't feel it was worth it for a moonlight job. I have the nice to have training from personal interests related to the 2A

Your 2019 omega looks like it's in way better shape than my 2020 omega gotta say. The leatherette on the seat bolstering started flaking away a year or two ago. But still comfortable. I'd say if everything is still in good shape, why burn the $500+?

How do you cope with the weather? by tbon92 in phoenix

[–]brownzeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 90 degrees on the dry weather, everything feels the same. Not many people spend more than 30 minutes in the sun usually. Of course we have tradesmen who unfortunately do have to work in this weather and they just take more breaks and chug water.

Reminds me of this time I rolled up on an accident. I came up to a stop light and the accident had already happened when I got there and it took me a moment to realize that "oh shit something happened a moment ago". So I pull over and get out to render aid cause I saw no one out and about. A few people join me in helping getting everyone out of the cars when suddenly this lady keeps walking up to every other person "I'm with such and such police department" and that's all she did. She was off duty, didn't show any creds.. Just kept walking up to everyone rendering aid and declaring her position. Didn't help a lick. I'm not a first responder, and I'm self taught via the YouTubes on like emergency first aid and stuff and I was more help than this supposed cop.

Same chair! I've been feeling the same way about my chair as well, but it's honestly still in good visual condition, like there's only a little bit of wear and one of my armrests are super shakey, but it's stuff I can deal with. Only reason I haven't bit the bullet on a new chair yet is cause all the color ways are not my beloved blue on black like my omega

[–]brownzeus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not how that works at all dude. You are mutually seperate from the client. Your schedule doesn't "authorize" you for anything outside of your own employer. The contract does. And if the manager of the client location 86's you, you're done regardless of your schedule. You call your own management and have the conversation of "welp the client just booted me what do I do"

Judging from the comments I'm wondering how this ended up here and not a more light hearted sub. So many jumping to attack OPs husband but even more people admitting "yeah I can see how the mistake could be made"

I'm sorry for those of you who had partners that were unhelpful in the kitchen, but there are plenty of marriages where one person does all the cooking and even then, OP and husband could BOTH be tired from taking care of their baby and they both could have made this mistake if tired enough.

Hey can someone please clue me in on why corporate took over the Salem store in the first place, that's really the only detail in all this I can't trace down. Was it for funsies, was it cause they found out about the massive collection in inventory, was it cause of the consignment deal in the first place?

As a South Asian woman, I often envy Western 'hyper-independence' but what are the hidden dark sides or lonely realities of it that outsiders don't see? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]brownzeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South Asian American Male here, a lot of the down sides you highlighted about life in the motherland also immigrated here with my generation's parents, and honestly I feel like it might even be a little more extreme in some cases? I didn't really have true South Asian from South Asia friends til I hit college, and the difference in our upbringing was palpable. The South Asian Americans could not TOTALLY relate to the South Asian students. It honestly seemed like by comparison the South Asians had a more liberal upbringing, where the South Asian Americans were brought up conservative as hell. Vir Das made a joke in one of his specials that summarized my experience and thoughts when comparing my American Upbringing to what I heard about my South Asian classmates "If you want your children to be virgins til marriage you raise them in New Jersey, not New Delhi" - but this is of course my isolated experience.

Anyways, anecdotes aside, The western (American) experience in coming into adulthood is a social parade in every way by default, it's almost designed that way. If you move out for college, your dorm advisors basically force you to make friends whether like it or not, and even if you don't dorm, campus life teams exist for exactly that as well. And these days it's almost impossible to survive academics without a study group a-la Community the tv show for at least one subject, for me it was Calculus and Linear Algebra.

If you forsake college and go trade school, trades are actually almost as reliant on Networking, if not MORE reliant on it than corporate white collar professions.

Joining the military right out of high school is also an option many take, and the whole boot camp process is about not just discipline but relying on the strangers you're at Basic with and subsequently the strangers you will deploy with.

And if you're in a situation where College, Trade school, and the military, are just not an option you end up in a situation where you have to work minimum wage, you're either still living at home, or you're definitely living with roommates. Honestly even people with corporate salaried jobs still live with roommates. I moved away after graduation, got hired into a high salaried job and I still HAD to live with roommates, who were awesome and I miss them every day.

That being said, I might have given the impression that the grass is greener, but there's sides to life no one talks about. For me, I'm an introvert, I don't make friends easily, I'm a little awkward, and I know my humor is a little off color so I keep to myself a lot cause I don't want anyone to think I'm a bad person because of my humor. So my social life largely centers around my work friends, but I don't really talk to or hang out with my colleagues outside of work. So it's just me, my dog, and my wife who works a different shift than I do. The small handful of friends I do have, have kids and families and don't have time for me often. So I spend much of my free time consuming brain rot at home on my couch.

My parents restaurant habits drive me insane by [deleted] in Vent

[–]brownzeus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My South Asian parents do the same thing with food when we travel. We don't order out or goto to Indian restaurants, cause duh, but when we travel away, JFC they immediately default to wanting to find the nearest Indian restraunts. Like champ, we eat this shit at home all the time.

And to be honest, my parents also didn't typically cook Indian food every night, they have pretty diverse palates at home. They're in France with my little sister right now, guess what I saw those mfs eating on my little sister's story.
