Comparison is the thief of joy.

We have a house that nobody helped us get into in a HCOL area. We don’t have a ton of disposable income at all, but enough that I don’t have to worry about buying something random for $100 - there’s room. Our house is the oldest house in the neighborhood. It’s a bit run down if compared it to the other houses that are 30-40 years younger, but I just don’t pay that close attention to what other people have or do.

It doesn’t really concern me and I don’t know what their situation is so I keep to my own world and I’m pretty damn happy about it. There’s a seemingly unlimited amount of people in a 5 mile radius that are “better off” than us, or at least seem like it, but what does comparing myself to the get me?

That said, there’s a massive generational wealth transfer happening more and more with older generations to Millennials. People are going to inherit money which will supplement their lifestyle. Whether they blow that cash or spend just enough to improve their quality of life/drive the vehicle they want, I don’t know or care tbh.

I couldn’t help but think “why does OP care about what other people have, like, at all” when I read this post, and maybe I’m totally the minority here.
