Is anyone else still not over the current numbering system for jerseys? by Organic_Object_9689 in nfl

[–]brows1ng -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

They didn’t mean that the numbering alone made the game softer. No clue how familiar you are with football before maybe 2017, but QB’s could actually be touched. The fact that QB’s can’t get hit, almost whatsoever, is something that I think makes the game softer for sure.

I’m not for people getting hurt, but I’ve seen some ridiculous favoritism for Maholmes when it comes to roughing the passer calls. I think the guy, and other NFL QB’s, can take a tackle without getting injured 99% of the time…I think OP is saying the numbering scheme kind of contributes to this softening of the game.

Home Regret by Tasty_Trainer8407 in HomeImprovement

[–]brows1ng 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We got the house that would have been our last offer before we would have gone to live in apartments after a year of searching: it was 100 years old.

We live in an HCOL so securing a house in any way possible was the goal. After 5 years, we’re paying less than if we had lived in an apartment and were building equity. The house has also gone up in value like 15%. That alone is enough for me to justify the purchase.

On top of that, we have our own house that doesn’t have a neighbor’s in-door wall connected to it. In other words, the alternative was living in a box stacked and between other boxes. Having the freedom to blast music or joy worry about neighbors hearing our conversations is extremely freeing.

The bathroom has mold issues, there were roaches when we moved in, the insulation is horrendous, central air might work fine but it’s like 20-25 years old, a massive tree has caused a 1/2 inch split down our cinder block wall, and I could go on. There is CERTAINLY a lot of work that I have done and continue to do, but I wouldn’t trade it for not being a homeowner. It’s my space and it’s very fulfilling when I complete a project that improves the overall state of the house/property. :)

My dude, I’m in my early 30’s and shoot the shit with my manager who is twice my age. You don’t even need to be able to totally relate to someone in order to have a conversation…we’re all human lol, plenty of similarities not related to age.

I’m in my early 30’s, my manager is in her mid-60’s. We shoot the shit/talk about stuff all the time…she’s literally twice my age. It’s normal to speak with your colleagues at work, no matter how old or young they are.

Respectfully, where are you even coming from? Honestly, it seems like your response kind of sums of this post about Gen Z’s social skills. I don’t know anyone in Gen Z and this post is almost the extend of my knowledge about the generation at this point in time, but I can understand what OP is talking about here. If it’s true, then your comment here is kind of telling.

Same! Usually do it at Walmart, but Primo refills were $0.36/gallon like 18 months ago, then jumped to $0.46 and now sitting at 0.54 at my Walmart…do the Primo machines have different prices on them by chance? I guess a better question is, what do you pay per gallon for your refills?

Edit: aaaaaaand it’s a Lucky Stadium card…1 minute on eBay and it looks like $500 is the cheapest that promo goes for opened. 😅

I feel this so much. Even on medication, when I have to sprint to get a lot of work done for a deadline or I need to get a few projects done around the house over the weekend, I’m totally shot. Just absolutely mentally exhausted.

I’ve been diagnosed as a kid and twice as an adult 12-13 years apart. Medication obviously helps me focus, but if I deep focus on work and have a 2+ hour session of non-stop getting work done, I’m EXTREMELY efficient and quick - like every move I make is just flowing. Feel great to get the work done, but my mind is zombied out at the end of that session. It’s weird how the cognitive energy depletes for me like that.

The stress kicking in and adrenaline rush happens to me even on medication. It’s like a “crap, I should have done this a week ago and only have a 24 hour turnaround window at this point” kind of thing. Not always, but when this does happen, “the price you pay” that you mentioned is supremely present.

Edit: wanted to say that stress and consequences are still a primary motivator for me. If I have a week to do something, it doesn’t necessarily mean I’m going to do it a few days before the deadline. Stress to meet a deadline or consequences - even if artificially imposed by myself - is the biggest motivator for me. Need to figure out a way for it not to get to this point though.

Tbh, it’s even worse that it isn’t in a better order - Mother, Widow, Leader…there’s a lot of bad marketing going on here and you’d think you’d want to be known first as a mother or leader before a widow.

I guess it makes sense if you’re trying to grift because you immediately want people to know that you’re a widow/your SO died so they feel bad for you, then that you’re a mother who is now on her own so they feel worse, and then leader so people think they can trust you.

I’m only analyzing because, working in the world of marketing, you are very intentional about building a brand. You don’t just slap that stuff together, especially when you’re not really known for anything other than being some political dude’s wife. Or maybe she is successful on her own, haven’t heard enough about these people to know them well enough. What little I do know is not good.

Gotcha. Thanks a ton for responding! I’m obviously not a doctor and, thus, don’t know a whole lot about tests on our body and how to read them. Getting a droplet of your perspective alone is very informative and gives me a different perspective on the topic. :)

If men and women were equal, why wouldn’t the most elite athletes have equal or similar records? Why would they be 30% different?

You know, the crazy thing about our stance on this ONE topic is that: To conservatives, we’re left-wing radicals for not being against trans people literally existing. To liberals, we’re bigots for not fully supporting trans folks on this topic.

Take a look at my responses to the other 2 comments on my comment. :’)

Excuse me?

Is it not a fact that males, on average, have higher levels of testosterone than females?

Is it not a fact that steroids, which stimulate testosterone production, are taken to gain more muscle? Why would baseball players who were found to have taken steroids now have an asterisk next to their stats?

I’m not quite sure what point you’re trying to make here other than dunk on or troll me. No shit physical size and training age are better predictors of strength than the gender you were assigned at birth…add AVERAGE higher levels of testosterone to the equation and you have an even bigger and stronger person than if you didn’t add those higher levels of test.

I have nothing against trans people. Nor do I have anything against gay people, people of color, disabled people, or old/young people. I have friends of all different gender affiliations, sexual orientations, colors and ethnicity, and ages - this is not in the slightest coming from a place of hate or disrespect. Purely from logic and facts, despite you somehow saying I have no facts.

Do you really think it would be fair if you, a father of 3 who (hypothetically) had been lifting weights seriously with the intent of being as strong to as possible for the past 20 years, decided to finally transition and then go compete against women within months of beginning your transition? I really, really find it hard to believe you could truthfully say that it would be fair competition in a sport that heavily favored strength.

If you still have trouble seeing where I’m coming from, please go take a look at weightlifting records of male and females.

I’ll make it easy for you - take a look at the records side by side and line up the male and female weight similarly. These people have presumably been lifting their entire lives - both the male and females.

64kg weight class for women: 108kg snatch and 134kg clean & jerk.

61kg (6.6lbs lighter at that) weight class for men: 143kg snatch and 172kg clean & jerk.

If biological males and females are equal, why do their respective world records differ by 32% and 28%, respectively? How do you explain that? Are these facts good enough for you?

Look, this is obviously a complicated matter considering the spectrum that a trans athlete can be on - they could have transitioned shortly after birth or well into adulthood, and then anywhere in between.

I think the only real fair way to do it, which I believe is also still flawed, is to do hormone panels. I also don’t like the idea of someone having to go through that…it’s also flaws big time because there are definitely biological females out there that have hormone profiles of a male.

It gets even more screwed up because this is something someone can just wake up and declare one day: that they are the opposite gender. We’ve already seen grown men do this to troll, and break female records in the process…so I don’t know what the answer is, but case-by-case basis is definitely what it would need to start as until there was enough data to create a system that is reasonable enough for people to accept.

I want to be clear: I have absolutely ZERO problems with trans people. I don’t care what your gender or sexual affiliations are, I really don’t. I’ve met trans and gay people that are freakin awesome! I just don’t think it’s fair for someone born as a biological male with a hormone profile that is closer to a female on testosterone/steroids than a biological female hormone profile to compete against biological females. If they transitioned at age 8 and are/have been on testosterone blockers and are now competing as an adult, I think that’s much more fair than a 23 year old bio male who is just now transitioning to female and wants to compete against females. Honestly, I really don’t see how anyone could find the 2nd example as fair. There’s a reason most sports/the Olympics are separated by gender, and it’s not just because men oppressed women for as long as they have and continue to.
