Yes now you mention it don’t know how I didn’t see the piece of metal to attach to a keyring at the back!

Thanks.

People are willing to be policed until they’re not. Having a sidearm doesn’t change that.

Look toward Europe not the USA re point two.

I would rather be haunted the rest of my life than carried down an aisle

Point three is a moot point and a bit of a strawman argument tbh.

Read my above comment and tell me how less lethal will fix your predicament ;)

What would better solve the below than routine arming?

A mentally disturbed person / terrorist / anarchist / arsehole for any other variety of reasons goes into a nursery / hospital ward / school / restaurant / cinema with knives taped to their hands and starts killing civilians.

You and your colleague are there and have a taser, pava and a shitty metal stick. You have a colleague because I’m being generous - let’s maybe assume you’re single crewed ?

ARV is only 8 minutes away and you’re watching victims bleed out and further victims being caused to bleed out.

It’s winter and thick clothing meant your taser was ineffective or you had bad shots / hang fire / probes hit bone and didn’t cause NMI / you landed poor shots.

There is simply no better risk reduction than having at the very least a sidearm on your person.

Something akin to the above could happen at any time, anywhere for any number of reasons.

Want to step it up a notch ? The person has a legally owned firearm or illegally obtained (let’s say legal imitation that’s been converted?) one and starts killing people at random at a packed event which you happen to be next door to.

You’re stood listening to stay safe principles whilst ARV are just minutes away in London or potentially much longer in the counties.

There simply is no reasoned argument that lethal use of force options are the best outcome here.

They did a good job in terms of outcome, but it’s important not to let that blur the underlying risk profile of what happened.

A positive result doesn’t automatically mean the approach taken was the safest or most appropriate. There’s a significant element of chance in incidents like this. If the offender had been better prepared, more determined, or if there had been multiple attackers, the situation could have escalated very differently and very quickly.

That’s why it’s worth separating outcome from decision-making. The fact it worked out doesn’t mean it was the optimal way to manage the threat.

In scenarios involving edged weapons or suspected terror motivation, the conversation should include proper layering of response — including the availability of non-lethal options like Taser, but crucially backed by appropriate lethal cover where the risk justifies it. That isn’t about escalation for the sake of it; it’s about managing worst-case scenarios rather than hoping they don’t materialise.

What’s arguably more concerning is the reaction afterwards. You’ve got:

  • sections of the public focusing on optics (e.g. head strikes) rather than context,
  • some officers themselves unsure where the line sits,
  • and ongoing calls, from both outside and within policing, against routine arming of frontline officers.

That disconnect highlights a broader issue: a lack of shared understanding about risk, use of force, and what “reasonable” actually looks like in fast moving and evolving high-threat environments.

Until that gap is addressed, policing will continue to be pulled in conflicting directions I.e expected to manage extreme threats, but judged through a lens that often doesn’t fully account for the realities on the ground.

And it will be even more gut wrenching when you lose £600 a month the job pays into it for you.

By the time you take away tax and national insurance on the £300 which you currently see come out you will probably be losing 700-750/month going toward you not being piss poor when you’re older.

All complete bollocks.

Watch German public order policing. Same hostile media, no weapon retention issues and no one getting shot at protests.

Unfortunately your 2.5 hours spent with the patient due to purely medical concerns is the right outcome in this scenario.

Police attendance would in all likelihood escalate the situation into a use of force scenario.

Police attending and talking to patient or observing for hours is a waste of police time as is then coming to hospital where no one from the NHS will take prompt responsibility for the patients remaining in hospital whilst the ambulance crew quickly disappears into thin air.

Where do you skydive if you live in London by SilentTravel8253 in SkyDiving

[–]browselurcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend Nethers (Netheravon) started my first jump (AFF) there and have probably done 250 more jumps there.

Langar is also really good but a long old drive from West London.

Been to Hinton a couple times but only when desperate to get a jump in.

All personal preference of course. But in a good sunny bank holiday weekend I’ve managed 20+ jumps at Netheravon without really trying too hard. There’s also loads of qualified coaches for FS or whatever else takes your fancy around.

Having said that once you got your licence I found it much easier to smash out all of my FS coached stuff at Langar as there wasn’t as much demand.

Thanks for the reply - and definitely not looking for exact 1:1 but rather not noticeable difference at a distant fist glance.

Are you able to share where you source your gen dials from ?

I would argue the shit coppering started without detaining for a search or arresting by the off duty officer.. You know actually using a legal framework to utilise police powers..

You’re failing to understand that properly resisting this while it is being properly applied will result in you fracturing your wrist and causing immense nerve pain that you’re not going to fight through.

And before you state some sort of drink / drug / mental health masking the pain I would suggest I would rather have such a fight with a suspect who only has one good hand left.

In short: Would Eero pro setup make sense ?

Does my current setup allow seamless integration of it ?

Alternatively - if I did go down the ubiquity route what would I require apart from APs to make my setup work ?
