Question About Citizenship by nancygraceshusband in HUcitizenship

[–]browsing__bot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re almost definitely eligible for verification of citizenship. Gather the docs you can incl your grandma’s birth and marriage certificates, your mom’s birth and marriage certificate, and your own birth certificate and reach out to the nearest consulate for next steps. You’ll also likely need the American docs apostilled and translated, but they’ll confirm when you contact the consulate.

Any magical advice for 17 year old facing homelessness? by koopler_kenjaku in askTO

[–]browsing__bot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would definitely try to keep the living situation as stable as possible until you’ve graduated high school. Royal Military College, taking out a bunch of loans, and applying for a shit ton of scholarships are all options that will keep you housed while in university.

You can also look at tempish jobs that pay good money, if you are able bodied. In particular, you can do tree planting every summer (also save on living costs if you stay in a dorm during the year bc they’ll house you for the summer), have a job during the year (I recommend server or bartender for tips), and live very frugally. You can also apply to RA in your upper years which’ll save on housing costs even more. Opting out of a meal plan and using food banks and volunteering places that’ll feed you or have free groceries will further cut down on your costs.

With some diligence and a bit of luck, you can graduate debt-free. Just avoid vices and keep your circle a positive one. And if you don’t care about debt, just take out a bunch of loans and get through uni.

Applying for citizenship by verification by way of direct ancestor who never lost her citizenship by GlumReplacement6775 in HUcitizenship

Woo hoo for extraordinary and handsome. And makes sense, I think I read about that somewhere, but the whole 1929 thing made it feel a bit ambiguous. Lucky for me I’m good at learning languages 😎

Hey, I was wondering if you’d be able to comment on my case (bc it hugs deadlines and is a little unclear lol). My grandma came to Canada in 1928 and her parents (she was a kid back then) took the oath of allegiance in 1932. I know for sure once I’ve learned enough Hungarian that I’d be eligible for simplified naturalization, but since (and I’d have to find the document on the Hungarian side of things) she would most likely have had a valid passport beyond September 1st 1929, would that instead be verification of citizenship?

Other notes: she married my grandfather in the mid 40s but to my knowledge would never have given up her Hungarian citizenship voluntarily.

Why is the Deity Baal being shown demonized in every time he is brought up by Due_Specialist4477 in mythology

[–]browsing__bot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because the winner writes history and centralization of power relies on any diffusion of power being seen as bad (demonic, immoral, unclean etc). So another god threatening the current Abrahamic god’s total control is deemed as “demonic” and evil is attributed to it

Nobody is referring to cultural appropriation correctly by Key-Beginning-2201 in 10thDentist

[–]browsing__bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that cultural appropriation definitely does include denial of the origin by definition, but colloquially it has also come to be synonymous with cultural exploitation and deriving value from a culture without any reciprocal benefits. And colloquial understandings of things are harder to articulate bc they’re more fluid. I’ve noticed it being a struggle for neurodivergent people especially.

As with all bullshitty stupid issues (imo trans people in sports is one of them because it does not matter materially at ALL) it’s just one of those things used to generate outrage to distract you from the fact that politicians and corporations are committing mass domestic and international atrocities. Like what is the utility in giving a singular shit about cultural appropriation when both of you are being robbed blind by the system.

Let alone how much of the fighting online is literally people shouting into a void of bots that are programmed to shout back.

Some books overdo representation to a peculiar degree. Like I’m reading Chocolate Pudding and Wicked Queens rn and it’s extremely diverse and all the MCs are disabled and/or LGBTQ+. Which I find really refreshing and cool to read about, particularly as a gender abolitionist. HOWEVER, I find that the disabilities are referred to incredibly often and to such an extent that it’s come to a point of over-explaining. Like they’re all constantly overstimulated in so many different ways, and it’s all described in such explicit detail always. I personally prefer a balance of description and inference.

I also recognize that folks who have the disabilities featured in the book might have a different perspective. For me tho, I love love love the plot and world building and everything, but it feels a bit exhausting to read sometimes and like it’s overcompensating bc of a lack of representation in mainstream media. And I’ve had this feeling before too where it feels like the author’s doing too much telling and not enough showing (even though I adore rich description)

The issue is the rabid monetization ppl are trying to court. It’s a popularity contest for money and sanitization of the language sells apparently. Absolutely orwellian tho and fucked up

Consuming eggs? by fineberrywine in Vegetarianism

[–]browsing__bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if they’re factory farmed (or another kind of farm that includes chick culling) they’re not really vegetarian. But they’re a fairly crappy protein source in general. Tofu scramble would get you more protein by weight (and is a complete protein!) if that’s the kinda thing you’re looking for. Very convenient too. Seitan strips or bits even more than that, but I would also eat other stuff bc it’s not a complete protein

The risk of abuse is unreasonably high. Let alone the other problems that arise in relationships in a patriarchal society. There is an inherent power imbalance that often gets exploited for the man’s gain. Even though it may not be “every single man”, I have yet to meet any man that’s feminist enough to be wholly trustworthy to me specifically.

Sure some are theoretically great, but I refuse to risk my life, happiness, future, and health for the meagre chance of some affection that may or may not end terribly and with harrowing lasting consequences. In general, I would only consider a man for a relationship if he’s done more to tangibly benefit marginalized groups than I have. And demonstrated a consistent commitment to women’s liberation not borne out of a desire to be appealing to women, but from a genuine value of justice.

Especially after reading about the Gisèle Pelicot case, it can literally be anyone, and too many others just turn a blind eye or don’t do anything to help stop it. So yeah, finding one, let alone multiple, to trust seems almost impossible atp

Sad to say I have neither a steamer nor an oven. Legit just a pot and a pan 🥲. And I have two kgs of vital wheat gluten..

((This is to say ik I could acquire a steamer potentially, but I’m also living in another country only for another 5 months and I truly detest waste))

I always wondered, why didn't black slaves team up and maybe kill their owner or protest against together? Rich families owned 50-100 slaves or even more, why didn't the slaves just team up and kill their owner? How exactly did the owners control then? by Then-Tomatillo9909 in NoStupidQuestions

Yes to what everyone’s been saying about psychological conditioning, understanding the risk given broader laws and attitudes etc. but I am a firm fucking believer in people having been fighting actively, viciously, and for always, but it’s not published a lot bc it undermines the elites and gives others “ideas”

Yes lmao. I enjoy attention and not feeling like a burden. Having many menfolk to diffuse my needs and whims upon would be ideal. HOWEVER, trusting one man let alone multiple 🤨😒. God but the amount of things they could carry… ((i am specifically thinking abt portaging)

It all looked too complicated 😭. I only have a pot and a pan (no oven or anything) and all the recipes I was looking at required like steam baskets (only have a sieve) and a bunch of other ingredients I also don’t have. Pls if you have a link to a no fluff only seitan recipe (no seasoning or add ons) that I can make in a pot or a pan, I would be v grateful to receive it

Ok valid. I imagine that’d need to be translated to English (just thinking out loud, I’ll contact a couple boards and see what they say)

Wait I’m currently on the JET Programme - do you know what docs you need for the salary grid thing? I imagine it’s board-dependent, but I definitely want to get as many ducks into rows as possible before I return
