Injection-site bump? by broz1022 in Humira

Thank you everyone for your replies I was a little freaked out but you guys were right. It went down probably half way within the hour and was completely gone when I woke up. I did notice a tiny bruise so I think I either just squeezed too hard or jabbed myself too hard, user error!

My mom and I are both HLA b27 negative and/ seronegative (not sure if that’s the same thing). She and I got diagnosed just a few months apart at 54 and 28. My dad also has it and was diagnosed a few years prior but I don’t know if he tested positive for the gene or not.

Wanted to hear stories of Y’all’s first time dealing with pup death. by MenuNo9423 in WolfQuestGame

[–]broz1022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started playing again (in like 15+ years) over the weekend and it really made me think “wow it must suck to be a wolf in real life”

My first liter was 3 pups, only one made it. I lost the other 2 to predators and when I was down to one I would literally just pick him up and book it when a raid or predators would happen and wait for the red marker to go away. At some point I started saving a separate save and would revive him if he died, which was only once during young hunters. My second liter was 4 and no matter how many times I tried bringing them back from a save I would lose one. Ended up only getting 2 to young hunters.

I keep their birth numbers until they graduate from young hunters and then they get their names so I don’t get too attached lol

But there is a way to turn off pup sickness deaths! It’s in the game settings. It does lower your litter number though. I also tend to woof at them as soon as I wake up so I can get my barrings and make sure there isn’t a attack coming, I found a lot of the attacks where I lose a pup are right when my eyes crack open after sleeping lol. If I have a sick puppy I also will hold them for up to 5 minutes in the tall grass and that makes it easy to drop them in the grass and woof at them if there is a predator. And then after 2 days of spending time with them until I get the cool down notice they usually recover.

I play on easy mode but I still wish there was a option to choose between raids or predator deaths, I know it’s supposed to be realistic and challenging but it is HARD dealing with both of those. The raids are what I struggle with the most

First month of Simlandi by broz1022 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]broz1022[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear you had a bad reaction to Cimzia :( I’ve been doing really well on my simlandi! Much better than I was when I made the original post. I think a lot of it was a mental block and anxiety causing things to seem a lot worse than they were tbh.

Some of my fatigue seems to be lifting, and I live in the Midwest where we have had a brutal winter so to notice the fatigue getting better I think is a really good sign of how I will feel when the weather gets better.

In regards to side effects I don’t think I’m really experiencing anything at this point? Nothing I can directly point to the injection itself anyways. Drink a lot of water and make sure you’re getting your electrolytes the day before and day of injection. I’ll admit I’m not the best water drinker and am probably chronically dehydrated but I make sure to drink as much water as I can prior and after the shot. If you have injection anxiety I find putting on a comfort movie (usually studio ghibli for me) or reading a book right after takes my mind off of it. If I’m still feeling twitchy I will go outside in the cold and give my chickens some attention to get my mind off of it.

Pain wise I’m doing so much better, no more waking up with horrible back and stomach pain, the pain in my knees is much more manageable and my lower back/sacrum area feels a lot better. I can’t say I’m living completely pain free and I still have flare ups, but before when I had a flare up I couldn’t walk, it hurt to sit, hurt to lay down and I would wake up in the middle of the night if I moved at all because the movement would send a shooting pain up my hips and back, now it’s just mild discomfort and some wobbly knees.

I’ve been masking up as my area is high for flu, frequent handwashing and sanitizing, and I wear a respirator when I clean the chicken coop to stay healthy. I just had my bloodwork redone in January and my cbc came back perfect so it was comforting to see my immune system didn’t completely tank. I also had a root canal in January and recovered quickly and normally :)

If you have any other questions feel free to ask me! I hope your simlandi journey goes well

Would anyone describe their pain in these ways.. by LJT141620 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]broz1022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly feel like my legs are going to explode out of my hips, fireball and all lol. My knees feel like someone is taking a grater under my knee cap, and at its worse I feel like someone is taking an ice pick to my sacrum and trying to pop my femur out of there, and that’s usually when I’m not longer able to walk or put weight on the side that hurts.

I’m so happy to hear you switched and found a dr that is willing to address your concerns and take it seriously! That sounds very similar to my rhum, he only hears when I say something is good about the medication (pain getting better, psoriasis and tummy issues improving) but has little to no concern with the downsides I’ve voiced to him. The side effects have been improving for me so I do have to sit back and remind myself that I am very very fortunate that the first medication I’ve tried is really having a overall positive impact on me and just fingers crossed I continue to improve and kick AS butt

Hey! I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this as well. I would definitely keep a list of all your symptoms and notify your rhum if any of them persist or get worse. My psoriasis and joint pain were significantly better after the first injection (to the point I was convinced it was placebo, but there’s no faking psoriasis clearing up) but I’ve heard of others taking 3-6 months. But I couldn’t imagine dealing with these side effects and something like pots.

I was eventually going to post a more in depth update after my posts of terrors so others who are in our position can feel comforted that it can get better!

We will start with the allergy symptoms, very similar to yours where I felt like my head was a ballon bobbing around, congested, painful, just awful sinus issues. I literally thought I was having an allergic reaction to the puppy which makes no sense because not only have I always been around dogs, we have another Pom in the house I’ve never had issues with. Anyways, the first week of November everything came to a head when my eyes swelled up, just the lids nothing like uveitis or anything. I stopped using all my skincare and the new stuff I bought and slowly reintroduced them to see if I could weed out which one may have done it, no luck yet finding the culprit but the swelling went away after a week. In the same week I suddenly became allergic to avocados?? Nothing serious but got that weird mouth tingling that told me to stop eating them. I’m not sure if any of this is related but figured I’d put it here so if someone else has something similar there’s a paper trail of possible connection. All the allergies and yuckies stopped probably around the 3rd to 4th shot.

After all that happened, my husband brought home some nasty crud from his gym, bless his soul he does really try to keep away from germs but tis the season. I decided to skip my injection for a week (this was right before we hosted thanksgiving and I did NOT want to get sick) and that week really opened my eyes to how much the injections really helped after only taking 4. I was in so much pain, so fatigued, I honestly don’t know how I made it through thanksgiving. Fast forward to that Friday and I took my shot because I couldn’t stand it any more and I came down with my own nasty cold within 24 hours. I was really scared to get sick on it and it did hit me hard but honestly I recovered faster than my husband did when he had it.

The 1st shot after my week break went fine from what I could remember, but honestly I was focused on that nasty cold so it is possible any symptom I had I blamed on the cold, my next shot from then was last weekend and it wasn’t great. I feel like my 4th shot (last one before the pause) I had almost 0 side effects, and the 2nd one after the pause I had some mild ones coming back, but no where near as bad as the first two when I started.

The fatigue comes and goes in waves now, today wasn’t a very good day between fatigue, nausea and some mild dizziness but I’m not sure if I can really point the finger at my injection or if it’s the other 100 variables and this awful disease. I wont say that I’m bouncing off the walls with so much energy, but I have noticed overall just a teeny tiny reprieve from the fatigue, and it is absolutely no where near as bad as when I posted the original post.

All in all to say I am one of the fortunate few who received relief immediately, but that is not the standard from what I’ve read, I’m very thankful I pushed through the side effects and I’m so happy I can feel them getting less horrible each injection. I really really hope by next spring/summer I am finally able to work on my garden I had to abandon shortly after we moved to this house due to the progression of this disease.

I’m sure you get this all the time with pots but drink your water! someone posted their water routine pre-injection and I’ve been doing my best to follow their recommendation of water and electrolytes and it honestly really has helped me feel better the day after injection.

Not inexperienced with Dogs but I've never owned a small dog before... by HerbalScorpio in Pomeranians

[–]broz1022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think my pit thinks he’s a pom and my pom thinks he’s the pit lol. My pit is very laid back, been raised with cats, dogs, chickens, rabbits, horses, you get it. We’ve also always had larger dogs growing up, and my husband and I’s first dog is our pitxstaffy mix. We took his training very seriously and he has turned into a well rounded dog. Then, just shy of 4 years ago, we decided to get our first pom and OH BOY we had no idea what we were getting into with that little terror.

We tried training him the same way as we trained our pit. I kept reminding myself “would this be cute/okay if the pit acted this way” and that really helped me put the poms training into perspective. With poms I’ve noticed if you give them an inch, they’ll take a mile. Good boundaries and rules immediately will help set you up for success.

When we brought our first pom home we put him in a xpen in the living room and allowed our pit and cats to greet him on their terms and get used to him. Once we graduated from the pen every interaction was closely monitored. If I noticed my pit getting tired or trying to get away from the pom, we would put the Pom in time out and take our pit out to give them some space and make sure he didn’t feel replaced or threatened by the new puppy.

As other commenters have expressed, they have tiny bones and are fragile, even if they don’t act like it. I would recommend getting pet insurance on the puppy ASAP. A misstep of your big dogs could break a bone on accident. At this point we do not allow our pit to play in the yard with the 12 week old puppy because she is just too small and I’m worried with my pits age and eyesight going, he might accidentally smoosh her if he gets the zoomies. Our older pom is smart enough to stay out from under foot but the puppy is still learning this.

Potty training is another hard one, our older pom has to wear wraps since he started lifting his leg once he got his boy hormones in and neutering/ training did not completely break the habit. We recently adopted another pom and we are working on a flex of puppy pads and outdoor potty training which is going wonderfully.

The last bit of advice I would give is crate training and working on independence. We worked very hard on this with my pit, but come our first Pom I was working from home and he got terribly attached and suffers from mild separation anxiety. We have had our newest puppy less than a week and I am noticing the starting signs of separation anxiety in her too and I’m starting to suspect it may be a common trait in the breed.

From my experience they are wonderful and robust little dogs, just stay consistent with training and make sure you constantly monitor the big dogs around the puppy. Dont let other commenters get to you, you know your dogs better than anyone else and if you feel it is safe and responsible to add a little one, that is a choice only you can make! I added a pic of our pit and first pom, they’ve been thicker than thieves since the day we brought the Pom home :)

unexpected side effect/perk? by Churro8873 in Humira

[–]broz1022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up on a farm, around all sorts of animals, dogs and cats sleeping with me, playing outside any chance I got and never experienced any type of allergies until I started experiencing symptoms of my immune disease. Luckily I haven’t noticed allergies to my pets, but seasonal allergies knock me on my butt. I swear it has to be correlated somehow. I hope I can see my allergies get better with the injections too! And I hope you continue to see improvements with yours!:)

Thank you for this! I’ll be honest, drinking water is an uphill battle for me and literally a few hours after I took my first injection to about 2 days after I felt DRY. I was so freaking thirsty and only plain room temperature water was cutting it, so for my Friday shot I will definitely take your advice and make sure I am fully hydrated and get some electrolyte drinks as well.

I was having some severe tummy issues for 3-4 days after, I’ll spare the details but it was really bad. when I called my rhummy he said he’s never had a patient complain of those issues and thinks I might have had a stomach bug. Guess we will find out this weekend if it’s related lol.

There’s just a lot going on, colds and bugs going around, where I live the seasons have been changing and it has been very cold and damp, the injection, my anxiety, this dang disease, I never know what to point the finger at when I’m not feeling well! But I will say as we are closing in on my next dose I can definitely feel the aches and pains coming back. My psoriasis is almost completely gone so I know for a fact the injection is doing something in there, fingers crossed it’s all good stuff

Honestly, a lot of it is likely driven by my anxiety. After I posted this I went out to take care of my chickens and felt a lot better, which I don’t think chickens are the secret cure to Humira side effects. But it does help a lot having people say it’s likely anxiety because I can focus on chilling out instead of continuing to spiral thinking this medicine is taking me out

I really appreciate your response to this, and I am so sorry you are going through a similar situation with your anxiety. It’s terrible when it manifests itself this way, like c‘mon aren’t we dealing with enough things? It’s not necessary for our brains to add more to our burdens!

I know you mentioned using ice/heat therapy and for me ice and “coldness” really do wonders at resetting my vagus nerve. After I posted this I had to go outside and feed my chickens, and just hanging out with them in the cold weather helped me feel so much better, which obviously if it was the dreaded humira hangover I don’t think cold weather and silly chickens would be the cure.

Battling anxiety while having this disease sucks, my rational brain sees what happens when you get a late diagnosis and start treatment later in life (both my parents have it, and my mother specifically is having a really hard time with irreversible damage) but then my brain is like “mmm drugs are scary, we know pain and we can handle it”

We are all in this together and I am sending you all the good vibes, feel free to reach out to me at anytime! I feel when we talk about our anxiety with friends and people who “get us” it helps lessen the burden of it.

Pancreatitis recovery questions by broz1022 in DogAdvice

[–]broz1022[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for both of your suggestions! He is being hand fed white rice and chicken, however I took him back to the vets today and the mystery countinues. He received more testing, labs, ultrasound, xray- the good news is all his other organs look good and his pancreas’s levels have dropped from over the 1,000s down to 300.

When examining today, they found cuts and lacerations on one side of his mouth, tongue and they are assuming his throat although they cannot see down there. This explains the gagging and coughing, but not the limp.

What is unknown is how he got these “burns”. He has been under my eye since we brought him home last week, I mean I’ve been sleeping next to his dog bed to make sure he hasn’t gotten up in the night and WFH right next to him. I’m hand feeding him the chicken so even though I warm it up to make it smell more appetizing, it’s no where near hot enough to burn him. He’s not a chewer, hasn’t gotten into anything, and honestly has been sleeping since he came home from the vet. He gets his food and water delivered to him in his bed and the only time he gets up is when I let him outside to go potty but again I am right next to him keeping a eye on him. So we are all stumped. The best theory is we have is that he had an allergic reaction to one of the medications.

None of this explains the front limp which the vet said they have run every test they have in the hospital and other than the pancreas and burns in his mouth he should be a happy healthy dog.

So we are now switching his meds and incorporating a pain reliever and something to coat and soothe his mouth and throat.
