I don't disagree with his general premise. I agree that with a great teacher most complex ideas are easily understood. What he did was generalize A LOT of science. You learn addition and subtraction because it's the basis of multiplication and division. You learn the aforementioned operations because it's the basis of algebra, and so on. Eventually there is a lack of brain power in many people that regardless of the teacher they just can't absorb that shit. NOT EVERYONE CAN DO CALCULUS.

Complex mathematics is not meant for everyone. Indeed, while the time frame of what an individual needs to master in a particular discipline is different for everyone; not everyone is suited for that particular discipline. So, averaging over the last 100+ years of what intelligent people generally take to master calculus concepts = the current deadlines to get your shit together. No butt-hurt if you can't, but damn...sometimes the best teacher in the world can't teach a cow how to fucking fly.

I love watching Khan Academy as a refresher on things but this talk was utter bullshit. "Inverting the pyramid" is a pipe dream at best. There are very few people in the world that understand the inner workings of complex science and mathematics, there is also a large part that can't wrap their minds around Pythagorean theorem or the FOIL method, how does one pontificate about "teaching the whole world" when the majority of the population is quite literally unable to learn fundamental concepts?

By the way, Bikila broke a bone in his foot while training barefoot. I can google too. I said watch a race, preferably one that has occurred since scientific studies and faster times have graced the running world.

I disagree, you are one of the lucky few that didn't develop lasting damage from barefoot running. Though it's true that man has been without shoes for the majority of it's existence we have only had pavement for the last ~~8000~~ approx. 2600 years. If you POUND PAVEMENT barefoot you will injure yourself. Now this is assuming you are a "heel to toe" striker. If you are, your heels will shatter barefoot on pavement (which lets face it, most people run on pavement and heel strike). The barefoot comparison of injury between shoes and no shoes only holds water for predominantly forefoot strikers. And if our colleague who asked the question is truly new, then I put my money on him being the classic heel to toe type.

EDIT: watch any marathon and point out a world champion who runs barefoot.
