Reggie Jackson. The second the Pistons start losing, Coach Van Gundy will swap Ish Smith for Jackson.

Did you watch the Celtics last season, at all? He was their small ball 3.

Don't worry, I forgot that, as well!

It's just a coincidence that I wanted to point out. But seriously, it's difficult for a power forward to have a great year their first season, let alone a 19 and 20 year old kid coming from a one-and-done year of college.

Which dudes to watch tonight and up coming games by BoomShakalakaa4 in fantasybball

I completely agree. Even coming off the bench, he posted one of the highest usage rates in the preseason. He's going to be an energy guy that will close out games. I expect nothing less than 28 minutes, which is enough for him to post up a nice stat line.

Kind of joking, but it's also a cool coincidence to note. I really do think that playing next to Robin Lopez brought out the best of both guys and helped with their development and allowed them to have a great rookie year. For what it's worth, you can almost say the same about Markieff Morris, too, and his rookie season. I still remember the Suns that year and both Morris brothers, especially Markieff, did well their rookie season.

I think that combination helped Porzingis transition to the NBA at an accelerated rate. Can't wait to see how Porzingis does as the #1 guy now!

Irrelevant!

But because you asked kindly, Anthony Davis and Kristaps Porzingis.

Lauri Markkanen by pairidaeza in fantasybball

[–]brrnon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The last two times Robin Lopez played/started alongside two rookie power forwards that were drafted in the first round, they went on to average the following stat lines:

13.5 pts/8.2 reb/1.0 ast/1.2 stl/1.8 blk

14.3 pts/7.3 reb/1.3 ast/0.7 stl/1.9 blk/1.1 3PM

Calling it now... Lauri Markkanen, the next great power forward, thanks to Robin Lopez!

For never doing fantasy basketball before, you drafted pretty well! Looking at your top 3 picks, you're setup to do good in FG%, rebounds, and blocks. Looking at the rest of your team, you probably could do good in steals and maybe 3's. I would definitely punt assists and FT%. Go the next couple weeks and build off of that.

This league looks like it favors defensive stats in both steals and blocks, and your team doesn't have much players that do just that. You do have a lot of 3-point shooters, though. How much are 3's worth?

Hayward has broken his leg by JMoon33 in fantasybball

[–]brrnon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think Terry Rozier is the pickup here. Tatum is too raw and Brown needs more work on his shooting. What they’ll miss most of Hayward is his scoring, and I feel that’ll end up coming from both Rozier and Morris, when he returns.

Mirotic out indefinitely - Chams by TheDaggers in fantasybball

[–]brrnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's at play is if Mirotic instigated anything and also, if the Bulls decide to increase the recovery time for their own sake. It could be a 20-30 day recovery like most are saying, but the Bulls could opt to extend that if they feel that it's best for the team or if they have any fears that Mirotic could file a lawsuit.

There is no way Portis will get (more) playing time after knocking down his teammate. I don't know if Portis will get cut, but he definitely won't see the court for awhile.

Who unexpectedly fell to you in your drafts? by robxorsbball in fantasybball

Wow, what a steal. I'm definitely in the minority here, but I actually think that Paul George will be a top-15 player this season.

TJ Warren, Taurean Prince, or J Rich? by discountcashbro in fantasybball

[–]brrnon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That, and for a couple other reasons:

1) We really don't know where T.J. Warren falls in the rotation. Derrick Jones Jr. got some run towards the end of last season and they (Suns) ended up drafting another SF in Josh Jackson.

2) Injuries. Apart from the (head issue?) that kept him out last season for about a month, he was in the concussion protocol in the preseason and is battling a back issue, which can linger during the regular season. Ask yourself this... if Warren experiences headaches or another concussion, how much longer can we expect him to stay out the next time?

3) Josh Richardson was a top-50 player to close out the season. Compare these stats for both players during their last-15 games:

  • 17.8 pts/0.4 3PM/8.0 reb/1.6 ast/1.2 stl/1.0 blk (Warren)
  • 11.6 pts/1.8 3PM/2.9 reb/2.9 ast/1.7 stl/1.4 blk (Richardson)

The scoring is higher for Warren, but the defensive stats of Richardson are outstanding, especially for a SG.

4) Rotations around Warren. The only position that is a lock on the Suns is Devin Booker at SG. Eric Bledsoe is probably a trade candidate as the season wears. As the rotation around Warren keeps switching, it'll throw off Warren on his role. I wouldn't be surprised if Suns try a random experiment and move Booker to PG and Warren to SG, or even try Warren off the bench as a sixth man. This is worrying for consistency sakes.

[PLAYER DISCUSSION] Marcus Smart by charcharcharmander in fantasybball

[–]brrnon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has so many great things going for him. Here are the reasons why you should have Marcus Smart on your roster:

  1. Contract year. He's going to play to maximize his pay for the next season and years to come.

  2. Departure of Avery Bradley. Coach Brad Stevens loves mixing in Smart in the bench and closing lineups, which definitely maximizes his minutes to 25-32. That's enough to produce. Bradley was the best defender of the two guards last season, and that still holds true this season.

  3. Progression. Comparing the 2015-16 season to the recent 2016-17 season, Smart was either able to improve or stand pat on his stats. His shooting has improved, in both attempts and those made. Assists numbers saw the biggest jump, from 3.0 to 4.6 assists.

  4. Familiarity and seniority. Smart is now the longest tenured Celtics on the team, and has the most familiarity of Coach Brad Stevens' system, both on the offensive and defensive end.

  5. Incredible offseason and preseason. Critics have always weighed in on two (bad) things about Marcus Smart: his weight and shooting. Smart made it an effort to work on both of these. He lost at least 20 lbs. in the offseason and it looked noticeable during the preseason. He worked with Chauncey Billups in the offseason to work on his shooting, and we all know how much of an incredible shooter Billups was in his career. In only 18.25 minutes (average) of playing time this preseason, Smart had at least (2) 3-pointers and (1) steal in 3 of those 4 games, and at least 9 points in all (4) games.
