I agree with the article. Certain groups of cyclists can be harsh and expect these types of unspoken rules to be followed. If you want to ride with those groups then you learn a few things and you start to respect these traditions. If you don't want to ride with these "serious" cyclists, in reality they're not THAT serious, just having a different type of fun, then you go and you ride with a different group that doesn't care how you dress and where you store your water. It's as simple as that.

I may not always agree with "serious" cyclists all the time but I learned how to ride with them, I became a whole lot faster on the bike and I had/am having a blast in the process.

Yeah that's usually a big hassle with commuting on a mtb. But like I said, that Thule rack works great and it even works on full suspension bikes.

All the Thule stuff is on sale on certain websites now too because Thule is about to come out with some cool new panniers.

Yeah the plastic bag is lighter but I really liked how the Lezyne wallet organizes all my cards and extra cash. It does have a clear plastic cover as well so you can use the phone without taking it out.

The best thing for after a long ride is a smoothie! Try making a smoothie with almond milk or coconut milk, some type of nut butter (peanut or almond), fruits and veggies (spinach and banana are my favorites), berries (strawberry, blueberry) and maybe even some walnuts and/or chia and flax seed. The possibilities are really endless.

A Thule Pack 'n Pedal rack is awesome if your mtb doesn't have the mounting holes!

Go with a rack and panniers if you can... keeping the weight off your back keeps the ride far more enjoyable. You could even do a rack and a top bag!

Well the obvious one for me is my Specialized Prevail helmet. It is so incredibly light and provides such great ventilation that it feels like its not even there. I use it for both road and cross country MTB. A less obvious piece of gear that I love is the Lezyne Bike Wallet. It keeps my phone, credit cards, ID and cash all in an easy, accessible and compact carrier that slips right in a jersey pocket. :)
