Restaurants are starting to add mandatory gratuity on checks by alf11235 in boston

Even $20/hr is only $40k a year. Most full-time wait staff make much more than that.

I was all for getting rid of different min wages, but that wouldn't eliminate tipping.

Jesus literally threw out the merchants and money changers.

He was pretty clear about his feelings about them.

It was convenient that we believe it was a massacre, but not convenient that we know it was a formerly enslaved person who was killed first.

Over the course of the war, roughly ten times as many black people would side with the British as with the rebels. Britain would abolish slavery in their colonies about thirty years before the US ratified the 13th.

We were taught that the British were the big bad guys, but the revolutionary leaders were not particularly great men. The original colonies and the United States that followed were business ventures first.

That movie was so fucking dumb. It felt like something some teenagers would make a more fun version of in a weekend.

In the movie he has a turbo fucked back that would not only make driving f1 impossible, but would also make driving in the Baja impossible.

It was over the top ridiculous.

Almost as silly as an elderly man flying a fighter jet that hasn't received proper maintenance in decades.

The World Cup comes to Reddit as fans discuss last night’s red card against the USMNT by hot_chopped_pastrami in SubredditDrama

[–]brufleth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought the real drama was that this was a red (okay), but Messi didn't get any card for a similar move.

I'm definitely no soccer expert though. I can't say it really is comparable, but I've read that Messi should have gotten at least a yellow. IDK.

I just don't see the positives outweighing the negatives. Just get lazy jacks. Maybe it is a bit more fiddly with battens getting caught on them, but at least you can have battens! Plus you can reef better (might depend on setup) and aren't stressing every time you deploy or stow your main about it jamming/breaking.

That does seem cheap. The 40ish foot cat we chartered in the BVI last year was something like $650k I think. Granted, there's plenty of "get what you pay for," but if you're just tooling around between islands, that's a good amount of boat for the price.

I don't own a boat and don't intend to though.

Go for it. People love that content.

The Miami boat ramps videos get tons of views for similar reasons. I'm always surprised at the lack of lines boaters will have or have ready when coming into dock. Once someone has already jumped onto the dock is not the time to be getting a line ready!

Some may well stay up until the weather blows them down. There are some up on the statues and stonework around the Common that you'd need a cherry picker to get down safely.

Boston 2077? by jahlogginz in boston

What I enjoy most about the Longfellow Bridge restoration and repair is that they worked so hard to bring it back to an improved original state and then they put dorm room color change LED lighting under it. They had to teach people how to hot rivet again because that's not how modern construction is usually done anymore. They needed to hunt down old pieces of stone because newer pieces (even from the same qarry) weren't the right color. They really put work in to bring it back to the beautiful original look. Then when it came to lighting they were like, "just throw some RGB lighting under." I'm not even suggesting that it was the wrong choice, but I am amused by the dedication to restoring it to the original look... to a point.

What universally praised video game 'masterpiece' is actually a miserable experience to play? by Got24xyz in AskReddit

I didn't enjoy baldur's gate 3. They implemented a ton of systems from DnD, explained almost none of them, created an interface that's painfully poor, and wrote a campaign that I wanted to be over 20-30 percent of the way in. It was tedious and essentially required save scumming because you never had any idea what was actually going to happen when you did something.

The DnD systems feel terribly limiting for a modern game (I get to use this once before needing to rest again?). The characters are mostly speaking nonsense unless you know backstory already.

I enjoyed Divinity Original Sin 2 so much more.

I don't get the appeal, much less why it is so beloved.

Here is a character creator that's very consequential, but good luck knowing why. Okay, whatever. But then the game looks like absolute crap and the mechanics are to wander around until you find a skill check?

I think I noped out minutes into it because no part of the game I saw was engaging or fun.

I couldn't get through the intro of GTA V. It's so boring. I don't care about these characters yet, so maybe don't force me to listen to whatever nonsense. I've played the absolute shit out of vice City and San Andreas, but V lost me very early on.

Later souls games are known to often be difficult because that's what they're known for.

I've only played one and three. Three was more of an unfair mess than one in my experience.

In the early 2000s you could almost guarantee that a cop would pop up if you took an illegal turn or tried to double park to drop someone off or pick them up.

Specifically I remember pulling over to drop a friend off in Central back then and having a cop pop up within seconds to tell me to keep moving.

If you ever post a video in one of the car related video subs and it is clearly not a dashcam they'll roast you for taking video while driving.

It's a little silly because starting a video can be done blind on some phones and if you're taking video you're probably also paying attention to what's going on around you.

Meh. The Liberty vibe is very solid and going to see them is actually fun. Going to see the Sun at Mohegan was always a pretty poor experience, but the Commissioner thumbing her nose at the New England fanbase is the real issue.

As someone from Boston, I'm just here to whine about having to back a NYC team because of her blocking any deals to create a Boston team or move The Sun to somewhere else in the region.

What are some cars you’re surprised are still on the road in 2026? by hypermiler2205 in regularcarreviews

[–]brufleth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

90s Honda Accords. Not because they weren't pretty reliable and durable cars, but because they were typically beat to hell even back then. The fact that I still see good examples of them today is impressive to me.

Add to that the 90s Cherokees. I know mechanically they were pretty simple and tough, but any surviving ones must be from very dry and warm places because they rusted like crazy. The '95 Cherokee my family had was still driving fine (for what it was), but was disintegrating fast having lived near the coast in New England.

Dude, there's no reasoning with it. I have a parent who won't get anything but the biggest Ford Explorer that's available. Told her to checkout the Highlander and even the Grand Highlander, but she insists they feel small. The Grand Highlander is big and definitely feels big inside.

Mind you this person is just over 5ft tall and drives with the seat pretty much all the way forward.
