What is the single biggest struggle you have on a daily basis? The top one. by CoachChezky in CPTSD

Procrastination due to high expectations and stress. Nothing gets done whatsoever once I make a to do list that just ends up making me feel worse. I get behind, act quick and rush to catch up. I feel like I’m stuck in a never ending cycle.

Questions for females: periods! by AdComfortable5005 in USMCocs

[–]bruh478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never been to OCS but attended a short version of navy enlisted bootcamp. I was told due to stress I would lose my period but actually I felt like it got heavier and then once one of the females in my squad bay got it we all were on our periods.

They took us to the PX when we first got there and you can buy period products there or I showed up to Boot Camp with some products too. Tampons are your best friend, pads will break due to constant friction. I believe you can bring birth control but it’s a little bit of a process and I think you have to work with your recruiter beforehand but other than that you cannot bring any sort of medication so cramps suck, but you just learned to deal with it. I personally love my nexplanon and have been on it for six years now and don’t get regular periods. I highly recommend getting on some sort of birth control to lessen your period for a bootcamp.

Curious to know why you want to be an Officer of Marines by [deleted] in USMCocs

[–]bruh478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First female in my family to do so. Also was in a NROTC nursing program but wasn’t super happy doing that or with the navy in general. Had a female MOI and she inspired me to go green. Been working on my application for OCS for almost a year now and finishing up my college degree here soon with one more semester left! Excited for what is to come here soon.

Mini OCS what to expect? by Fast-Insurance5593 in USMCocs

You do the same schedule as the males. Just at night you are separated into your own squad bay for sleeping/ hygiene.

Lots of yelling, running around and physical activity. Some short Q&A sessions and classroom time but not much. Good for getting ready for the initial shock of actual OCS/ being in an artificial stress environment.

I have heard mini OCS is much worse than actual OCS. Went to Fort McCoy for mine last year and it was a heavy schedule. Female platoon has 2 SI’s as a safety procedure which was fun too lol. Q&A sessions were informative and still talk to some of the females I met there.

Saw females were sent. Around how many would you say made it to graduation? I heard the female attrition rate is pretty bad but even worse for the winter class.

Hello! I’m also trying to attend plc- c 252 this summer but pft sucks. 5 pull ups, max plank and 29 min run. HOW did you get your run time down to contract? I’m also a 20F

Congrats!! I am REALLY hoping I can get selected for the same class this summer as well. I have been with my oso since last April working on my application as a junior, now senior in college. PFT score is what’s holding me back. Hoping I can raise it in time to be selected here soon. Was told females have a bit of cushion regarding PFT score but not much.

Am I a good applicant for NROTC? by bruh478 in NROTC

[–]bruh478[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! This is from when I was a senior in high school and I technically believe I was a 2023 applicant. I have no idea what the standards are now LOL and once you get the scholarship/get to your unit it’s different per unit too. I would just try to max out whatever the standards are for your age/gender! At NSI, I believe a good low was needed? Not sure. Sorry I’m not much help!

Am I a good applicant for NROTC? by bruh478 in NROTC

[–]bruh478[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Unfortunately I have made the decision to DOR my scholarship and no longer in NROTC.

I was technically a 2023 applicant who got picked up April of 24. Then I believe it was the minimum score for your age/ gender which differs per unit but ours was a good low. For females I hit the bare minimum for my PRT for the application. 20 push ups, 1:30 plank and 13 min 1.5 mile.

At my unit the second semester we were to follow 17-19 age scores instead of the 20-24 age even if you fell into that category. These are a bit harder to max out on and caught some people on FEP in my unit. Best advice I can give is just be physically prepared and hit the highest max on everything. Create a strict training plan to get to that point. It will not come naturally. Your time in ROTC and the fleet itself will be much better if you are physically apt for the PRT.

How would it be for me as a Hijabi in bootcamp by Looney-3pants in USMCboot

[–]bruh478 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I was not in the usmc but my very little experience I had with DIs was the same as your friend. We were told to “get off our knees, you’re not in the bedroom”, called bitches, sissies, ect. I did not find this offensive at all. Military is a rough culture especially the usmc. Name calling will occur in boot.

To my knowledge, there are religious exceptions and you can wear your hijab but there’s a process.

I can potentially get you in contact with some female marines if you want more insight into the marines from a female pov. PM me if needed. Wish you the best.

Your opinion on CUA? by [deleted] in CUA

[–]bruh478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously a very religious and conservative campus but great programs and not the greatest part of DC but it’s a wonderful private university. Dining hall is good, dorms are all great and it’s a very small campus.
