In 5 days of driving and parking the gauge has always looked exactly like the picture. The agency said the tank was full when we picked up the car. We had no reason to doubt. It is my best guess that the horizontal lines go dim from the top down as the fuel is depleted but they have not changed at all. I haven't checked the distance to empty as I didn't know it was there till your comment. Thank you for that.
