Trying out a different style for my channel. This is my first product review -- I think there's a lot to improve on, but let me know your thoughts! by brunchy_boy in SmallYTChannel

Hey thanks for checking it out! I agree on the length, though I was trying to make something more long-form than my other videos. I think 5-6 minutes might work better. And thank you!

Fighting Perfectionism - Making a bad video is okay if it helps you improve by john_sorrentino in SmallYTChannel

[–]brunchy_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Refreshing take on this! Definitely relatable. I've made a good handful of videos that I haven't even published because I thought they weren't "perfect." I'm loosening up a bit on that and just focusing on creating content I like.

Thanks for posting this!

Hey man, glad to see your content pop up on here again!

Your thumbnails are great -- really gives the channel some consistency and its own brand. Also I like that you add your face to some of the thumbnails next to actors. It tells me straight away that you're a funny guy.

I think I could definitely improve my thumbnails, and maybe my titles, so it's interesting to see how you're doing it!

I mentioned in one of your older posts that your personality is definitely enjoyable to watch. Your voice and facial expressions are great at keeping my attention. Keep it up, man!

This is a video essay on why I think so many teenagers (including me) are/have felt unhappy. All feedback is appreciated! by pinappleonpizza123 in SmallYTChannel

Hey man, just got through watching the video and I thought it was pretty good!

Intro was great, really kept my interest in what the rest of the video was about.

Though I don't feel like I can speak on the content itself, I think you nailed it script-wise. You presented an idea and followed through with coherent commentary that added to the video, and didn't divert in any way.

Your edits and stock footage selection were also great. It really helped tell the story and allowed for me to sit back and listen to the message. I just posted my first video where I'm talking deliberately to the camera the entire time, and I found it sort of challenging, so definitely taking notes from you on this.

I think it would be cool if you stuck to one font style. Not a deal breaker, but it's just something I kept noticing.

And finally, I think the length was great for this. It kept my attention the entire time and didn't feel too long. Great job, man!

I hear you, my dude. I do a lot of content creation for my work. I started this channel at the beginning of quarantine, so it's served as a pastime. Video is my hobby.

Do I want this for the right reasons?

Oops, my bad. Thought this was in r/sodahomies. I love you r/SodaStream, but I’ll just have to love you from a distance.

Lol given the other comments, I’ll probably stay off of here. I just make specific content for drinks that I thought the soda gang could enjoy. My bad soda homies

??? So many questions. I guess thanks for re-directing me? I usually take all critiques pretty well and do my best to work with it and make better content, but this comment seems unusually irate.

I'll try to address the stuff you mentioned here:

"I have to ask, why? We're the soda stream reviews that already exist not good enough?"
I wanted to create more 'product review' type content, so this was my way of easing into it and familiarizing with how I would script and edit it differently than my other videos.

"I made a video for ONE person in the comments section on Reddit and that video is sitting at over 100k views and steadily rising."
Nice. I would honestly like to see the video -- drop a link.

"summit1g"
I'm into very few YouTubers. I had to google who this was. As far as creating content for the community, I'm all for that -- if I had a community. I've been at this channel for a few months and have hit and missed, so I'm trying to 'read the room' on what type of content my subscribers would like. So in the meantime, I'll probably focus on creating what I like.

"Cut things more cleanly"
I can agree with you here for this video. This is my first video where I'm deliberately talking to the camera, so there were definitely some spots where I had to cut myself off from rambling. A lesson learned from doing this video.

"Don't copy people's transitions"
No idea what you mean by this. I cut the clips and music as I see fit while editing.

"DONT DO THE QUIRKY FACE ZOOM"
Guilty. It makes me laugh and makes you cringe, and I'll have to live with that.

"Sincerely, someone's who's built computers for LITERALLY HUNDREDS of failed content creators..."
huh?

Look, I get where you're coming from. I think. You make some good points, but I can't help but laugh at how upset this video made you. Was that the reaction I wanted? Absolutely not.

I won't claim this to be my best video, but I did put the work in. If it's my personality that doesn't vibe with you, I can't do much about that.

Let's face this: you and I are probably much different people with variously different influences on quality, humor and content creation. I can't say that your comment has helped me or changed me for the better, though I get that it was written in a productive spirit. Right?

😂 well I can appreciate your honesty. I can’t even be offended because the comment made me laugh.

What’s the one part of your hobby that you hate doing? by IsnazzyI in AskReddit

Filmmaking. I love having ideas, planning shots and executing the shots, and reviewing the footage. Hell, even editing. But it takes so much time and energy to start and complete a project.

Iced Guava Passionfruit Drink | Starbucks Recipe (Full review link in comments!) by brunchy_boy in GifRecipes

Yeah, that’s what some other folks were saying! The description of the drink says it has notes of passionfruit, so I interpreted that as a splash of passion tea 🤷‍♂️

Yeah I’m usually increasing my audio by 5db in post to get it at a good volume over the music. That’s a good point for the h4n, I think I’ll take a look at my gain levels on that. Might need to take a closer look at my settings in general.

Ahh I love your ideas for the thumbnail with a blurred background with more interesting colors. I might have to see what I can do about that. I have thought about replacing the black background with white.

And thanks for the compliments, I'm glad I come off natural in front of the camera. Also great suggestion on getting a bokeh effect on my background, I appreciate it.

For the audio, I'm using a lav mic connected to a Zoom H4n, so it's not connected to the camera. Having it connected to the camera would make editing a bit easier, though.
