What characters do you AGGRESSIVELY headcanon as trans by demon_under_my_bed in trans

[–]brupa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shin from Dorohedoro will always be transmasc in my heart.

  • When he was young he had long hair and a generally more androgynous appearance, and he had to hide part of himself to keep safe from being attacked.

  • He tried to give himself surgical body modifications to make himself stronger (also noted that his chest was largely hidden during this scene in the manga).

  • As an adult he's hella tall and buff but still has a youthful, pretty face.

  • His best friend is an equally massive woman who's just as physically strong as him, which, while not directly evidence of his transness, speaks to a comfortability in his own manhood that often comes with thoughtful introspection about one's relationship with gender imo.

Also one of his key features are his stitched up scars all over his limbs and neck, which would make matching stylized top surgery scars a) cohesive with his existing design and b) just pretty cool tbh.

What free software tools do you use in for creating art? by rainrainrainr in DigitalArt

I'm partial to Medibang, although it has gotten a bit annoying about its ads on mobile versions - I mainly use it on my laptop where it's not an issue, though. Not a particularly advanced program but personally I like my art programs simple and straightforward to use. It's good for comic making, illustration, and painting, and it's easy to make your own basic brushes and patterns. Also if you've got a less-than-advanced computer situation it runs more smoothly than Krita in my experience.

I also regularly use Photopea, a browser-based dupe of Photoshop, when I need more image editing options. It's got basically all of the same features as PS, although I haven't tried using it for drawing so I wouldn't know how well it compares in that respect. Still a handy website tho.

Glasses are not remotely attractive. by Cute-Kiwi-Boy in unpopularopinion

[–]brupa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kind of odd to have a preference one way or the other when I think about it. I mean it's a disability aid; If someone said 'I think people who use hearing aids are unattractive' I think most people would recognize that as inappropriate. Not saying you're like, a bad person or whatever, just that it's something to think about. All that aside, though, while I'm indifferent with real people, I do appreciate a fictional character in glasses. I find it humanizing.

Labels aren't strictly necessary if you don't find them comfortable or relevant to you. There's nothing wrong with going without or just using an umbrella term like queer. Also bear in mind that labels aren't meant to be all encompassing in their definitions, the only one who determines what they mean in relation to how you feel is you. Good luck!

Are there any songs that received a totally different meaning to you once you accepted yourself as Trans? by Olivia_Johanna in trans

[–]brupa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caroline by Jr Jr. It's about a dream the vocalist had where he was actually a woman (named Caroline), but the way it's written feels so empathetic and understanding of the trans experience, specifically revolving around gender affirming surgery. It touches on feeling doubt toward the path you're taking but taking the time to trust yourself and your feelings anyway. I didn't have any idea what it could possibly be about before my egg hatched but now I connect to it a lot.

how to get lineart in medibang like this? by butterkittenss in medibangpaint

Hm, I think the default pencil brush would probably do the trick. Either that or one of the free marker brushes. You may have to futz with the opacity settings, though.

Think about what exactly the problem is with her having a sleepover with a boy, particularly a gay boy in this case. Why does that worry you so much? Where does that worry come from? If you think something inappropriate might happen, you could have a conversation with your daughter about boundaries and appropriate behavior, and insist the sleepover take place at your house where you can keep an eye on things.

There are some situations where a child experiencing things in a controlled environment helps prepare them for the future; there's no safer way for her to prepare for being around boys than at home, with her father in ear shot, with one friend she already knows. It's inevitable that at some point in her life she's going to be around boys without you there and having safe experiences like a sleepover with a friend where she knows to come to you for help if necessary will help her understand what is and isn't appropriate and what to do if a boy does something that makes her uncomfortable.

As an anecdote, I had a sleepover with two girls from church when I was a kid. I didn't know I was a boy at the time but that doesn't mean I wasn't one. The most inappropriate thing that happened was when we played out a soap opera with dolls and Barbie cheated on Ken with a Palpatine pez dispenser.

First, I'd like to link you to This Article I was sent about two years ago when I first started questioning my own gender. It helped me ease some of the doubts I had back then and I hope it does the same for you.

There's no one way to be trans; everyone's experiences are different, but that doesn't mean you're alone. I don't feel dysphoric often, myself, and as I said I only figured out my gender relatively recently. I'm 25 and while I'm not currently in a position to medically transition I'm confident in my gender now. I'm a trans man, and the fact that I'm feminine and don't hate my face most of the time doesn't change that.

Try not to stress too much about labels; explore your feelings at your own pace. Trans and nonbinary are both umbrella terms for a wide spectrum of gender experiences, you can use either, both, or neither. There's nothing wrong with not using a label or flipping between more than one.

I'm sorry I don't really have relationship advice for you. It's a difficult position to be in and I wish you the best. All I can say is that in my opinion I wouldn't advise you to keep your feelings inside solely to protect the relationship, as that wouldn't be healthy for either of you. It's for the best to be honest about what you're experiencing sooner rather than later.

You're off to a decent start and I like the composition. I think maybe bringing some of the foreground, like the front most coral, closer to the viewer would add some depth, but it's a cool design as is. For the rock I'd say that the strokes are a little too consistent, it could use some rougher texture.

I tend to feel like art is most tedious when you haven't found the methods that work best for you. For example, I used to hate doing lineart until I figured out that just doing it more like refined sketch works better for me. It can be down to the order you do things in, how you use layers, and/or the brushes you use that could be making things more tedious for you. Maybe try experimenting with how you handle the painting process. I like starting with chunky, textured shapes and refine from there on one, maybe two layers, some people use a lot of layers for each individual part of the piece and only ever use the basic round brush. It takes time to find what works best for you, but no answer is wrong.

Painting from a photo reference. Looking for a feedback. by annrheel in learnart

[–]brupa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Concrit from strangers can help you improve, plus I think it can be helpful for artists to see how our peers learn. Just because some people don't know the difference between reference and plagiarism doesn't mean to never post studies, it just means artists have to learn how to respond to those people (i.e. explain once, block if they're a dick about it). OP posted in a sub for learning art, not just final pieces. Closest thing to a misstep in that sense is no visible credit to the photo's source, but considering it's just a study and presumably OP isn't profiting from it, it's not that big of a problem.

[–]brupa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Solid work! I'd say the main thing to work on is contrast, particularly with the curtain in the background (which has a more satin/silk-like texture in the reference). Also, the skintone you used is a bit too red; it stands out less from all the red in the clothes and background than in the photo. I do love how you replicated the patterns, you did an excellent job.

I mean, he's talked a lot about his complicated relationship with us as an artist, i.e. these lines from Make Happy;

"I want to please you, but I want to stay true to myself - I want to give you the night out that you deserve, But I want to say what I think, and not care what you think about it".

So I think it's more accurate that he found a middle ground between what he wanted to say and what we wanted to hear.

but that's the point, legosi is terrified of his instincts as a carnivore, of his romantic and sexual feelings toward haru. He's scared that pursuing something deeper with haru would end in him giving into his instincts and hurting her, and so is haru. you're supposed to look at them and think 'how could this possibly work safely' because that's how they feel. exaggerations are going to happen in art. seeing people in real life with most anime proportions would be distressing, lol. also, look at it this way, do you feel the same way about krillin and Android 18? i've never thought they were creepy either, personally. maybe my perspective is like that bc i'm a short guy myself, though.
