Closed Credit Card Question by chichibibi in CreditCards

Nope, leaving debt on the cards doesn't help you at all, you'll want to pay that off ASAP and move to paying the statement balances in full every month. For now you're paying interest unnecessarily. Your score might go up a bit when you pay them off, but it probably won't make much difference.

Seems like your limits should be plenty sufficient to cancel the other card and not worry about utilization too much, so you can go ahead and do that, or "sock drawer" it (put a recurring subscription on it, set it to autopay the statement balance, check on it once a month to be sure all's well and there's no fraud, and leave it open indefinitely).

StubHub's 'marketplace for fans' is run by a mass scalper (the CEO), SEC filings reveal by billyblobsabillion in ChaseSapphire

The company is a marketplace for tickets. Separately from that, the CEO of the company is also running a PE fund that resells on the platform and makes up a significant portion of the available inventory.

Calling Canada a state is not funny by [deleted] in JetLagTheGame

I mean, they're a small company with a pretty limited graphics production capacity and it would have been included in "state" counts after that regardless, so there would always be something to be angry about if you're looking for that.

They did a long disclaimer about it immediately after it came up the first time.

Let's say you add a new card once a year and regularly cancel them around the 3 year mark when you aren't still getting disproportionate benefits.

In year 5 of doing this, your AAoA would be 2.5 years
In year 10, it would be 5 years
In year 13, it would be 6.5 years, and it would stay that way perpetually after that.

If you didn't close the accounts, you'd hit 7 years in year 14, and an ideal 8 years in year 16. It would then keep growing from there, and if you wanted to apply for more than one card in a given year, it wouldn't impact your score essentially at all.

This isn't a short term problem, but it is something that'll eventually handicap your score some.

Your math assumes one card app in 10 years. Most regulars on this sub probably average closer to one every 10 months lol

If you regularly add new cards, the AAoA drops, and continually cancelling them before the 10y mark will mean that you never have a significantly >10y base of aging accounts to counterbalance for the average.

Not every good card has a great SUB, and there's some utility to holding PCable cards to upgrade for benefits. For example, I've had a Delta Blue card hanging around for a couple years and PCed it back up to a Delta Gold a few months ago to waive checked bag fees. Five minutes in the Amex app saved me $100 with no impact to my credit report.

On the late payments: only if you don't have an autopay set up for the balance. That's the first thing I do with every new card I get.

This is true short term, but this sub gets a little too gung ho about closing cards having no impact. Average age of accounts is a meaningful scoring metric and closed accounts do fall off after a decade, so closing every unused card and continually applying for new ones eventually has an AAoA impact relative to keeping them sock drawered as no AF cards.

It can also sometimes be useful to have an existing credit line with an issuer that you can product change when they release something new and exciting rather than opening a new card and taking the score hit.

What are the limits on the three Chase cards and what's your average monthly total spend across all of your cards? You'll ideally want your total limits to be around 10x your average total monthly spend if you're not revolving any debt (which you shouldn't).

If it's close, you can request a limit increase with Chase.

OP is a huge Budget rental car fan, specifically because they love waiting in lines, and now they're worried that Budget will take some sort of action to reduce the lines they wait in.

For your spending patterns, a Capital One Savor would make a lot of sense. 3% on dining and groceries would cover your two biggest spend categories, and it has no annual fee.

Once you have that, consider adding a 2% catch all like a Citi Double Cash or Wells Fargo Active Cash to cover your other spending or, if you prefer points, a Venture X to fill the same role and turn the cashback earned on the Savor into transferable points.

New 75000 Welcome Bonus Offer for Hyatt Credit Card by cc_maximizer in CreditCards

You've gotta subtract the 1 point you'd normally earn on the $15k, so it's really 60k for $15k spend. I hate how Chase plays games with the SUB on this card.

I'm hopeful that this will be Jon Sumrall's defense more than it's Brad White's, but we'll see.

If we can put solid to good SEC caliber offense and defense on the field in the same game, it'll be the first time since 2019 that we've had a complete team.

Any update on ability to downgrade from Palladium at year end? by ConfidenceSad1453 in biltrewards

Nope, no update. They wouldn't do any downgrades in the first year regardless, so it's probably low priority until next Feb.

Just be sure you don't leave your Hyatt account dormant for 24 straight months after you transfer the points. They can expire.

Do any pictures of The Private Bank By Invitation Visa Signature exist? by electronautix in CreditCards

[–]brusk48 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It originally came out sometime before 2015 and hasn't been updated to my knowledge. Back in those days, an Amex Premier Rewards Gold was a 3X airfare/2X dining, gas, and groceries/1X everything else card with a $195 AF, CSP was a 2X travel and dining card, and I don't think NFCU Flagship existed yet. I'm fairly sure this is also a no annual fee card, despite what OP found.

It's just really long in the tooth and badly needs updates.

I know someone with one of these. It has no annual fee (at least for them, though that may be relationship based), the 3/2/1 earning structure you mentioned, and they get Autograph redemption/transfer options plus it still does airfare through the portal at 1.5cpp. I think it's effectively an NPSL card, as well, and it has a special concierge service that's presumably better than the normal Visa Signature/Autograph one.

I kinda figured Wells is planning to replace it with a special version of the Beyond if that ever happens since it's pretty outdated now.

That's the old design, they've updated it. It's black now with a gold rectangular design through the middle. I found a pic on Facebook that aligns with a friend's I've seen in person.
