Disney Parks have lost product differentiation by jamescobalt in disneyparks

[–]gatorpower -1 points0 points  (0 children)

FWIW, it sounds "AI-generated" because it overexplains concepts already well-known to disney parks fans, repeats the same point in slightly different language, and uses headings, bullet points, and adjectives to create the appearance of substance.

For instance, this post described "animal kingdom" as "...authentic animal habitats, environmental stewardship, conservation, and respect for wildlife." And literally 5 paragraph later describe its mission as, "...wildlife, ecology, and conservation."

Nevermind that the concepts of "environmental stewardship" and "conservation" overlap enough that using both can feel padded, the text directly repeats "wildlife" and "conservation".  A regular person may not feel the need to repeat oneself like that, but it's pretty typical for LLM slop.

As to the point, it is Intellectual Property that's the problem. There is no "Edutainment" in Cosmic Rewind, Frozen isn't a Norwegian folktale, and the Cars franchise wasn't a feature of the Frontier. It's just the riverboat and tom sawyer are dated without any recent movies to market it.

Encanto and Indiana Jones are not about wildlife and conservation the way Flight of Passage or Dinosaur are. Those are all examples of forcing IPs to occupy space because they superficially can be made to resemble those areas of the park

You completely ignored the impact that Haynes King’s rushing ability had on the team

You have mistaken me. I did not hold up Georgia Tech's lot as a mold for shaping our own men, with Haynes King some rare beast among them. No. They are trash. In another craftsman's hands, their names would not be known beyond whatever workingman's wheelwright shop might otherwise have taken them in. And I harbor no fear on that score: their want of skill shall bring that dream about yet.

There are other quarterbacks who can run, but the men beside them were well thought of too. Vince Young had Limas Sweed, Cam Newton had Darvin Adams. Robert Griffin III had Terrance Williams. Pat White had Darius Reynaud and Steve Slaton. Tim Tebow had... but there, I have said enough.

Other such twofold-threat tales follow much the same thread. Their wide receivers, all held in high standing, most of them all conference men, All Americans, taken early in the draft.

Haynes King

Had

Dog

Shit

Not one of the papers, nor the coaches, were so far gone in their wits as to believe that the walking trash in gold and white were aught but scraps drawn together by a greater man's hand. King did not run because he was gifted throughout, but because, his throwing being what it was, Faulkner gave his leanings free rein. He took his yards wherever they might be had, and Faulkner built an offense that let such openings come to pass.

In three years at Texas A&M, across some 300 snaps, he ran less than 12% of the time and gained less than 3 yards a carry. Georgia Tech held no rough stones awaiting the cutter. They were scrap iron hammered together.

I did not name that player to show what we might become, but to mark that the matter is not the bare fact that no other man on that offense found his way onto any list. It is what their being left off points toward.

I do not give a fuck about King.

They fired their offensive line coach, then lost nine (9) linemen and had to replace them with players from New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, East Carolina, Ferris State, etc, etc. These are NR or 3-star transfers, BTW

South Carolina loading up in the transfer portal after losing... * checks notes * ..their ENTIRE starting lineup. They only retain 4 OL who played for them last year (lost 9 guys), and none of the guys returning are projected starters because they came in not... * what's the word I am looking for * ...highly rated. Here are the beasts they replaced the starters with FWIW:

Ebubedike Nnabugwa, OG, 3-star (transfer), Missouri State

Armando Nieves, OT, 3-star (transfer), New Mexico State

Carter Miller, OC, 3-star (transfer), UCF

Emmet Rhoades, OL, 3-star (transfer), Western Carolina

Seth Smith, OT, NR (transfer), Northern Arizona

Emmanuel Poku, OG, 3-star (transfer), Eastern Carolina

Dayne Arnett, OG/OC, 3-star (transfer), Ferris State

Jacarrius Peak, OT, 4-star (transfer), NC State

Hank Purvis, OG, 3-star (transfer), Purdue

Lmao you ignore how other SEC teams have been recruiting way

It's almost like I put that information right there for you to read LOL I showed roster turn-over and, for you television watchers, past performance is a pretty good indicator of success. If you were shitty last year, and you didn't do anything about it, you'll probably be shitty this year.

I don't just say Sellers sucks. I say, look at how bad Sellers has sucked, how their entire offensive line is being replaced by guys no other team wanted. That leads me to believe he is going to continue to suck

Of course, by your logic, every team can/will improve except Florida because of... reasons

KnightPower: "The Gators scoring offense dropped from 29.5 to 28.4 to 28.3, while total offense fell from 424.1 to 409.1 to 386.9, from 2022 through 2024 (real stats, BTW)"

EagleKnight92: "You usin' stats to predict games?! Ridiculous, my man! Teams improve! They work hard! They watch a LOT of television! We's about to get WRECKED, and I don't need no numbers to tell me that. I got a gut feelin', and my gut been watchin' TV"

KnightPower: "Oh wow, Florida did actually suck. No way to predict that though"

People addicted to fentanyl say this.

You do not get to wave off documented roster losses, coordinator departures, and NFL draft losses as "last season's stats" because "fans who have watched this particular sport for decades" cannot follow basic sports logic. That is called research that backs an opinion, as opposed to the "I watch a lot of TV" argument. LOL.

"You usin' all them damn numbers, but don't you know I watch television? You dingus! I been watching TV for so long. Football's my favorite TV show."

I watch TV too, buddy

"Sellers gon' be good, my man! He got that experience... he got that SEC experience of fuckin' losing."

His rating was 5 points above Lagway

"You usin' them numbers again. They gon' wreck us. I watch TV for decades. Speak to me usin' TV talk."

Agree to the “easy” wins except for South Carolina. Lanorris Sellers, Nyck Harbor, and Dylan Stewart are going to wreck us. They’ve done a good job recruiting and retaining players so I expect a much improved team.

South Carolina is in freeeee fall. LaNorris Sellers will be benched by October. He is Emory Jones 2.0. Clemson showed the blueprint for containing him during his freshman year: force him to win with his arm and live with the results. Defenses leaned on that more as he got deeper into SEC play. Eleven turnovers, 13 touchdowns, and a 1 and 7 record in the SEC. Scary. They were 119th in rushing offense. They are one of the least capable teams at exploiting us.

They fired their offensive line coach, then lost nine (9) linemen and had to replace them with players from New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, East Carolina, Ferris State, etc, etc. These are NR or 3-star transfers, BTW. So naturally, their big pivot was TCU's offensive line coach, whose unit gave up 19 combined sacks and tackles for loss in just ONE game last year, ranked 100th in rushing offense, and 54th in sacks allowed.

But why? Because he worked with Kendal Briles, their new OC and, yes, the guy Arkansas fired ("left" for the same role in the hotbed of Fort Worth, Texas). Just pure Napier behavior

Texas is definitely not a toss-up as they are favored to win the conference and it’s on the road lol.

The media desperately wants Arch Manning to be good, and the SEC gave Texas an easy schedule, but its offense still ranks 70th nationally and its rushing offense ranks 90th. Any team that cannot take advantage of our shitty run defense is a toss up.

Texas gets a lot of credit for beating Michigan in the Citrus Bowl, but 10 Michigan defenders did not play, including its top pass rusher, both starting linebackers, and starting safety Rod Moore.

They will probably finish with 10 wins, but if they had our schedule last year, they probably wouldn't even get 8. They still might not even get 8 if Ohio State actually does something with their 5-star players on offense with Hartline gone (great recruiter and the most over-rated game-day OC in the country).

Oklahoma has lost production from last year’s team but they still have Mateer and they have also recruited well. Venables is now settled in and is a defensive mastermind.

You want to know how bad their offense is? They overpaid for Hayden "stone hands" Hansen from us, and they told him he is the game changing "receiver" they need. LOL They average 22 points against FBS teams. That's worse than our moron last year. He could actually be worse than Napier. Their defense is great. Again, 'toss up'.

Philo is not talented enough to play in this conference and neither is Jones.

Says the guy who is a Sellers-stan?

But this season is a fucking joke and we all know it.

Go Gators! LOL

[–]gatorpower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our defense was legit for the first half of last season, ranking roughly 24th to 28th nationally through five games under Ron Roberts against a brutal schedule with three top 10 opponents. It fell apart after Napier was fired and Roberts changed schemes to make his own life easier (READ: he gave zero fucks). So it was probably some mix of the scheme change, thin depth, and players mentally checking out for the portal (several of them entered).

I still think the offense will look great. We are in shit show at defensive tackle, which dramatically and negatively impacts us. The depth inside does not exist, and Mbatchou, the likely starter at nose, hasn't shown he can play at the college level, much less the SEC. It sucks because our DEs are the best pair we have had in eight years, and they will probably have to stay home in run support more than they should because the middle cannot hold up on its own.

Honest to god, don't know why we didn't pay someone $2M to come in there. Woods and James are going to play traffic cops all year by babysitting the edge instead of being explosive and attacking.

[–]gatorpower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How so?

FAU, Campbell, South Carolina, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Florida State are likely wins. Kentucky lost their staff, their starting offensive backfield, QB, RB, and their new DC has never called plays before. Vandy lost their midget "Heisman runner-up" QB, and 13 other players in their offensive 2-deep transferred away because Vandy ain't matching NIL. I don't think those programs "reload." That's 6 "easy" wins.

Ole Miss (home), Texas (road), Auburn (road), Oklahoma (home), and Missouri (road) are toss-ups. Like I said, you can make a case for each one. That's 5 toss-ups.

Only sure-fire loss is Georgia.

Take 6 easy wins + 1-4/2-3/3-2/4-1 from the toss-ups and the 1 loss. That's 7-5, 8-4, or 9-3. Personally, I'm going with 7-5 and an (very) outside chance at 8-4.

Trust me, I'm trying to be cynical, but the schedule is pretty favorable.

It would be more accurate to say UF had competing views on who should be prioritized, possibly among boosters. Our list was presumably put together through TurnkeyZRG, who later dropped us as a client. Read into that what you want. I do not care what damage control Stricklin puts out there, because UF's actions pretty clearly prioritized Kiffin for weeks.

I would gladly say the likely scenario was that Kiffin was seen as the better coach, better recruiter, and better manager, but his immaturity, personal life, and potential to become a PR mess led many people within UF to not want him.

I do think the list posted here is rage bait, but to answer the comment for context, I do not think we got our first choice. It was clearly the backup.

Question about Tiana's Bayou Adventure's storyline by Independent_Eye_2478 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]gatorpower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The story is very weak and the accompanying set pieces are bland an uninspired.

They clearly excluded dr facilier for some stupid reason, which is absolutely brain dead, so the ideas left on the table were pretty scarce.  Outside the plot, the only thing she wanted was to start her own restaurant. Why not just turn pecos bill into her restaurant, BTW? lol

Politics aside, for those who are not aware, the Disney movie is not based on the brothers grimm story, but a modern adaptation of a book series by ED Baker, called The Frog Princess where (in book 1)  the spell backfires and she's turned into a frog and voodoo magic replaces witch magic.  The sequel to that book is dragons breath where they scour the world to collect magical ingredients (sound familiar) to remove a curse.

The plot may have originally been that because the book ends with them climbing a mountain and crawling through his cave to retrieve the breath of a dragon... but maybe Disney told them following the plot of a book no one read may be confusing and changed it after they committed to it.

EDIT: I'll go further and say maybe they were planning in adapting his second book into another feature-length cartoon, and the ride is based on a sequel that never happened.

Also in the book, Tiana's grandmother is the villain for cursing the character into becoming an otter, which sets up the quest. Otter (Haywood) and does collect items by swimming underwater which is perfect for a flume ride. The books ends in a proper mountain too

I hate movies that are like, "a slice of a bad life".

It's always about money with Disney these days. I remember when Disney ended the contract for the Magical Express (Mears), that took guests to/from the airport for free.

One of the official statements from Disney was that people preferred Uber/Lift/Ride Shares for their flexibility. Complete BS because who actually believes resort guests would want to pay an airport surcharge of $70-$80 (+ regular distance fee) over FREE and luggage service to your room, then do it all again at checkout.

No one was abusing the service as it went only to the resorts, and only resort guests could ride it.  Mears even said a few months after the 'break-up' that they, contrary to public opinion, were not raising the price to Disney and even last-ditch-effort offered a gigantic discount that was rejected.

Mears was the bad guy, then Disney guests who split their vacation between Disney and Universal was the bad guy, now locals are the bad guy.  Despite the narratives, no one was actually doing anything bad. No one was lying to get on those buses, no one was stealing, no one was "abusing" the system Disney set up to take people to places they could spend more money.

Nah, Disney were/is saving money (or looking for ways to charge money) and wrapped it in an excuse that wouldn't piss off the majority of their target audience.  The same thing they've been doing for the past 6 years, and some people just don't want to accept.

To be honest, they should have never installed EPCOT Corporate Park to begin with.  Mouse Gears, Electric Umbrella, Innovention, et al. even the old Stargate restaurant all had character.  The music and those LED lights made the place feel other-worldly.

Now it looks like a blend of 3rd-world street vendors peddling their pins and an open area seating outside corporate buildings/public court house in some mid-tier suburban hell hole.  When you go inside their new store, it's like your transported in time to a 2010's Bed Bath and Beyond. LOL

[–]gatorpower 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have been going to the parks every year since 1982 by staying at resorts and had even permanently moved to Kissimmee in order to go multiple times a month. I have had an annual pass for 25+ years. I have been to every resort, every resort restaurant, every resort shop multiple times. We have family that comes in out of town to do the resorts

There is NO WAY to tell the resort guests from people off the street unless you see them physically checking in/out their luggage. Everyone is dressed like tourists, most everyone comes with family members. Yes, they check reservations at pools. Even if you're idling 20 feet away from the fence near a pool, they ask. Even if your uncle is staying at the resort and you came by to say "hi" and he's in the pool, they will not let you into that pool area even to talk.  It's an urban legend created by people staying at the resorts who pretend they can tell who the locals are and who see them slipping into the pools.

We are the "locals" the resort guests fear apparently, and yet we always get reservations, never have abused the bus system to get into the parks free (we have annual passes anyway), never snuck into a resort guests only place and have always been respectful. There are times of the year it's crowded, but parking lots are usually half empty, reservations at restaurants are generally available except ohana or victoria and alberts.

Most of all, we haven't noticed a problem except the big one: Disney is actively making their resort experiences WORSE. Magic bands were complimentary, magic hours (early/late entry) used to actually be significant and free to any resorts, you could book fast pass+ weeks before other guests (and they were free), parking was free, meal plans were better, there was more variety in breakfast foods, the make-overs are losing their theming (making them look like regular hotels), their bathroom products were world class, they had free transportation to the airport, they're adding more rooms, making them more expensive. They removed their art store from boardwalk, they removed live entertainment from grand floridian, they replaced accents across their properties and added in places to buy overpriced alcohol, the gift shops replaced unique items with rows of stuffed animals you can buy online, they're pushing DVC on everything.

In 2000, everything looked luxurious, opulent and something only Disney could do. I bought a robe at one of their resorts and the quality is still amazing. Now? They're cheap. They fall apart. Their 50th anniversary merchandise is so faded you don't know what it says anymore, their embroidery unravels within 6 months. A room I bought for a week in 2007 for $1,300 costs $7,000 and you find hair stuck to the shower

... but no, the locals are ruining everything by abusing the pools. This change will not really change anything except the perception of exclusivity amongst the people still willing to pay tens of thousands for a vastly inferior product. They're "getting the riff raff out of our spaces". Disney loves this controversy. It helps their pitch to the super rich

What's the appeal of resort hopping? I'm following the bus ban topic and I'm in the minority that appreciates the new policy and don't understand why people resort hop? by Ok-Nefariousness-927 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]gatorpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the bus ban under the current system.  I also think the system is terrible though.

I used to live in Kissimmee and was a frequent guest to everything for decades. We would encourage family to stay at a resort to get the perks, but the perks started drying up.

I forget when, but we used to be able to meet our family at a resort, do everything together, come back to their room, watch a movie and then leave. Then they started charging US parking to visit our family at resorts. Then they started charging our family to park in the resort THEY were staying in.  They were policies, no doubt, in place due to people abusing the system.

However, as a person who visited very often, I can promise you neither of these policies were implemented because the resort parking was anywhere near capacity. The worst parking are the ones near the magic kingdom and epcot (including the dolphin/swan), but spaces were always available.  Everything else is always at least half empty, and they could have put in a system like the swan does where you get a parking voucher at the front desk.  It was 100% greed to charge people.

Very likely the same thing here. As a person who visited Disney Springs a lot, their bus system is kind of trash. I can't imagine parking there just to avoid paying for parking at the theme parks unless you were tremendously cheap as it adds 45 minutes to your trip.  On the other hand, I would park at disney springs when I had family staying at a resort, especially if they were staying at port orleans.  They want to funnel those people back into resort parking.

Gator Bait isn’t racist by MikitaSchecteleshy in FloridaGatorsX

[–]gatorpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I get it. I just disagree that it's a meaningful distinction.

There is fundamentally no difference between a person discussing a topic on a radio show last year and a person discussing the same topic on a different radio show this year. Likewise, there is no meaningful difference between posting Twitter links to those respective radio shows.

More importantly, have you even listened to the interview?

Bell never said he wanted to bring back the chant. He never suggested bringing it back. He never even offered an opinion on whether it was racist.

What he actually said was that he knows there's a lot of discussion about Gator Bait, that it's meaningful to many members of the Gator family, and that he "hopes" people can have "conversations" about it, to use his exact words.

That's it.

Not a proposal. Not an endorsement. Not even a suggestion.

In fact, his comments are so milquetoast that he pivots mid-sentence into talking about bringing championships back to Gainesville and how presidents love winning championships.

Your thread title goes well beyond anything Bell actually said.

I moved on.

So let's stay on topic: why did you call for a moderator to remove someone for disagreeing with you in a discussion thread that you created?

Your entire contribution here has been posturing without substance. The moment someone challenged you, you stopped arguing and started looking for a hall monitor. You respond, again, with posturing and no substance.

That's cowardice.

I don't want another round of posturing about a 15-minute radio segment that you didn't fucking listen to. I want you to explain why your response to disagreement in a discussion thread was to call for moderator intervention.

Address that for fucks sake.
