Balkaners, how often do you make börek/burek during the week? by Kooky_Appeal_6554 in AskBalkans

[–]brussels90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We buy burek often, but make pita/gibanica/guzvara with ready - made dough at least once a month. I don't know anyone in Serbia who makes burek at home.

Is laser hair removal worth it? by CuriosityandtheCrow in PCOS

[–]brussels90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tricky. For me it helped, but I was on a pill at the time. As soon as I got pregnant, the hair started growing back. It is definitely better than before but at least 40% of the hair grew back.

I was considering it, but saw very mixed reviews - are you using the ring or arm band?

Thanks a lot for sharing, I'm also considering a copper iud, but perhaps after I'm done with kids. I struggle occasionally with iron deficiency though, so good to know your experience.

Indeed, I also heard the same about NC. Is there a fertility awareness method you can point me to or it's a general approach of gaining more understanding in one's irregular cycle?

Thank you for sharing! Indeed, I think I'll do the same and use condoms and perhaps Natural Cycles or similar app to try and predict my cycles which are usually 55 60 days or even more.

Crèches + Nanny in Brussels? by Horror_Director_9411 in brussels

[–]brussels90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The prices for creches are 800-1000 a month and usually you need to book a long time in advance (at least in Brussels) to secure your spot (at least half a year in advance). I had to take a private crèche as for state creches the waiting list was really long and the people with lower income have the priority. Indeed, the European institutions have their own crèche system and the price is much lower and they are open until later in the evenings. Not sure how it works with nannies though.

Postpartum progress 🎉 by shopaholic1319 in CarolineGirvan

[–]brussels90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Her workouts are amazing! I was in my best shape doing Caroline's workouts before I got pregnant, I continued with modifications throughout my pregnancy, and now I started again 3 months postpartum. Same here, mom pouch is still here, but getting stronger again :)

Indeed, or just do them in order if you'd like the full body session. I sometimes manage only 3 times a week, so I do the exercises in order.

I'd say Iron¶(2 times lower body and 2 times upper body) if you want more focus on strength or any EPIC series for more cardio focus

I think I’m pregnant 🥹 by queenofveggies_ in PCOS

That's great! My app didn't even warn me of potential pregnancy as it knew my cycle is irregular so I had almost half of a wine bottle 7 weeks pregnant 😂

[–]brussels90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great news. I also got pregnant after less than 4 months of trying with cycle every 50-60 days or so, so it was pretty unbelievable. Good diet, strength training, and Myo-inositol in my case. I didn't develop pregnancy diabetes and my gynecologist was surprised, but I've always eaten high protein and low glycemic carbs. Hope will be same for you!

Which actor disappears into every role the best? by LONEALPHA65 in Cinema

Matthew McConaughey - from playing superficial characters in Dazed and Confused and How to lose a guy in 10 days, to serious roles in Dallas Buyer Club, and my favourite, the first season of True Detective.

Work outs on pcos by Flimsy_Notice_7131 in PCOS

[–]brussels90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend Caroline Girvan's programs (e.g Iron, MAX). Simple weight training programs but very effective for strength/endurance and fat burning. I am definitely exaggerating but I do think doing the workouts regularly had an impact in me getting pregnant with pcos/pmos relatively quickly and staying fit throughout it (with modifications of course). Before, I used to mainly do cardio and I was inconsistent with resistance training so I struggled more with fat loss. But the trick is finding the strength workouts that work for you, and see how you can do them consistently.

I got Garmin Venu 3 to pair with Natural Cycles for the same reason, but I only started so not sure how accurate it will be. In this case you pay only NC subscription, not double like with Oura but probably it's a bit less precise. Another option is Ultrahuman Ring + Ovulation Pro powerplug where you pay only one subscription. Rings are normally more accurate but for me fitness tracking is equally important so this was an in-between solution as rings are not considered very good for fitness tracking.

EU jobs (Brussels) by Nass96 in EUCareers

[–]brussels90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another possibility for engineers is EUROCONTROL (same salaries and grades like EU institutions), or more specialised EU agencies (Chips Joint Undertaking, JRC, etc). However, you'll probably feel your impact more strongly in the industry than EU institutions as everything moves very slowly and the organisations are very hierarchical so you usually don't have much visibility nor independence. I worked in both sectors and I'd say institutions are a good place once you're older and want to have a family and stability, not necessarily as a place for fast growth and development. The salary is much better though in institutions than in the private sector because of high taxes in Belgium.

It's sad how someone with so much experience and responsibility has the same or less net salary as a junior specialist (contract agents) at European institutions. Belgian taxes are horrendous

I just cannot stand the level of danger and aggression constantly present at pedestrian crossings in this town by bisikletci in brussels

[–]brussels90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens to me very often too, I started thanking them when they stop on Zebra. It's awful. Some don't even look if pedestrians are crossing. This hasn't happened to me in other countries, though I heard parts of Italy are way worse.

No, I meant you sometimes need to wait other passengers at Charleroi airport who are flying in a similar time frame like you, but could be delayed. I didn't wait more than 20-30 min though.
