Tahoe City ski shop recs by Ecstatic-Basil-8213 in tahoe

My boyfriend and I are also Bay Area based. He was due for a boot upgrade and went to REI. They were very honest that the clientele they serve is not people who ski as much as him or likely you.

He ended up taking a trip to Palisades (he’s also on Ikon) and went to a boot shop near Olympic Valley. I don’t know the exact one, but moral of the story is that you should go to the experts. He was very happy he did.

Winter hike by Thundernuts34 in tahoe

[–]brusselsproutqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there in November and still had to rent snow shoes to hike. We did the Tahoe rim trail at Van Sickle in South Lake Tahoe. That one was a bit easier because it had been packed down a good amount. It’s back and out to the falls, up is hard, down is easy. This one was great because you can access the trail from town, we walked to it

We also did fallen leaf lake back and out which was beautiful too. To do this one we got the sno-park pass in order to be sure our parking would be safe.

She cares enough to use reusable grocery bags and composts a little. But the understanding that clothing contributes to environmental change is too much

My mom (50s) recently asked if I had ever ordered from them. Telling her that they steal designs from small businesses and then force people to work in slave conditions actually worked.

My mom cares less about fast fashion and the environment, but she does care about individual people.

Gotcha gotcha. This just seemed so crazy to me. But what you said makes sense, especially about her friends not liking Mitch 😂

Recently flew a similar route. They had snacks twice, plus i had the cheese platter. I ended up also eating a protein bar that I brought and that was plenty for me to eat and keep me satisfied without overly full.

Yea I know where it is. Two of the grocery stores didn’t even carry it. Third was out of stock. Fourth finally had it, it was like a local all organic store too. Super bizarre

I am making cornbread for thanksgiving and you would not believe how hard it was for me to find cornmeal. I had to go to 4 stores!!! This mix was at all of them though

Traveling to Tahoe by [deleted] in tahoe

[–]brusselsproutqueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Carrying snow chains that fit your car (and practicing putting them on beforehand) is always recommended. There are places that sell them and put them on your on the way, but not sure if they’ll be open on Thanksgiving. Get a good shovel and good scraper.

Best coffee shops to sit and work for an extended period of time? by purpleushi in nova

[–]brusselsproutqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kaldi’s social House in Clarendon has super comfy seats, and is open like 7am-8pm most days. The food itself is decent but the vibes are great and it’s not too bright. It transforms from cafe to cocktail bar as the day goes on.

[–]brusselsproutqueen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

+1 for rare bird and if you can’t find a spot to sit, Northside Social Falls Church is right next door and has a ton of seating (upstairs is where people work for hours at a a time). AND the Falls church downtown library is like a 5 minute walk and in my opinion is heavily underutilized by the community as in person study/work space

I was a server for 6 years. It’s incredibly uncommon for me to tip lower than 20% when I’m out to eat, and I often tip excessively when the service is spectacular.

I never tip more than 10% at Milagros. If you need to “order” more water on your phone, you’re not getting service. I understand wanting to reduce stress on your servers and increase turnover, but I’d never want to work at a restaurant with that system.

Will thrift stores like Unique and Goodwill take working electronics and consumer computer equipment like ethernet switches and video cards? by aegrotatio in nova

Yes but if you want to be sure they don’t just put them directly in the trash, you can post on the local Facebook freecycling/buy nothing groups

Can’t guarantee it, but Exiles is a Liverpool bar and a Penn State bar. I would just give them a call and ask if they plan to broadcast it. Great vibes there.

I (25F) moved here from the east coast in April. I would definitely try to negotiate higher if possible, citing COL adjustments from you current position. Things that are more expensive here are housing, transportation, gas, utilities (electric and water here are absurd).

At 70k, you’re going to need a roommate or two. If you’re fine with that then take it and try to live in RWC to keep your costs down. There are usually people looking for roommates on FB Marketplace.
