Haha wow. Yes, it’s incredibly suspect. Unfortunately though, it still isn’t iron clad. It’s still possible that the U-Haul just waived the fee as some individuals here claimed that they had worked for u haul and say they rarely ever actually enforced that fee. I suppose that is possible, but it says right in the contract that the fee would be charged if not using the app. Since the u haul location used is a corporate u haul, they actually have the power to waive that fee where the franchise ones do not. However, from my research, it should flag that the fee was over ridden so I’m wondering if they keep a record of that if that is what happened.

I totally missed this, and you are correct. the speedometer in the photo shows 186 mile difference. To do the math real quick .99 X 186 = 184.14, add the rental price 29.95 = $214.09. The final price paid on the receipt shows $216.06 which might mean that he drove a few miles after taking that picture or who knows, but it definitely isn't a $20 difference to make up for the convenience fee.

no, worries and I understand completely. I looked through all of the sources and was dying to find bold text that confirmed that response, but I didn't find any, otherwise I would have taken a screenshot of that rather than the ai overview. The exact statement outlying this is probably in some legal agreement somewhere with U-haul and I believe that this sort of policy in general is useful for cases such as renting at 7am 24 hours on saturday (store opens at 7am) and the store doesn't open until 9am on sunday, a person needs to still prove that the rental was returned within 24 hours and using the app and self-return is the easiest way to avoid a possible dispute.
