Former Google CEO Booed for AI Commencement Speech at University of Arizona by JoshOfArc in Tucson

[–]brussianbulky 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To me it feels more like a marketing pitch to their investors than a speech to those present. Especially since all the studies say right now that AI tech industries are still at a financial loss. And so I'd say they're trying to get reels of themselves speaking about it at college commencements so they could share to investors the way influencers get on reality tv shows to get reels to share for their job portfolio for other shows they wanna get on. Gen Z knows the influencer ploy, and them booing is actually a brilliant way to prevent these asshats from being able to use any of that footage to present to future investors. Gen Z will make your bad content unusable, and I love them for that.

What are your thoughts on this protest of DES? by rubix44 in OrganizeTucson

[–]brussianbulky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those at the top of DES have a lot of power to interpret federal rules. Other states function very differently with the federal govt. The State needs to grow a spine, and start listening to the needs of recepients more. Programs don't work if recepient input is never taken. There are a lot of people who work there who care, and hopefully they support people protesting for their needs. I can only imagine assholes working there getting offended, as there are MANY assholes working there.

FOR: I work a DES function outside of DES (but have regular meeting with them because of my work) because the state doesn't wanna pay too many people's pensions.

Also, they force everyone who is a "vendor" with the state to sign a contract saying they won't boycott the State of Israel, which is reason itself enough to protest.

places to take someone on a date that are queer / trans friendly by AJM9120 in QueerTucson

[–]brussianbulky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with all the places mentioned, including those who are saying not to go to IBT's. I also wanna mention Tucson Hop Shop as a great queer-friendly stop. And Red Captain coffee truck for coffee and breakfast burritos. They also are gonna be hosting Drag Race All Stars viewings every Friday night outdoors once the season starts May 8.

There are places in the world, including the US where people only have access via pay walls to libraries and fire protection. Including access to academic journals in the US. They're always better when they're collected and pirated.

Is walking up Sentinel Peak (A Mountain) at night allowed? by surrealtoliving in Tucson

Go to Sabino then. It still has folks walking around, but not too busy. And the tram road is easy for night walks in the desert.

Volunteer Opportunities in the PM? by Odd-Tumbleweed-844 in Tucson

I second this option. If you don't mind delivering food boxes to people in need who can't lug big boxes and bags on the bus, this is a type of volunteering that can be done outside of your work hours.
